28 Days Later is my favourite movie ever, but I understand why other people would disagree with my opinion on its excellence.

I do agree it is an excellent movie, but its not really scary, its sad!!! :(

Other cool horror movies that are more action or thriller than scary but are REALLY good:
From Dusk Till Dawn
Planet Terror
Deliverance
Silence of the Lambs
SE7EN

There are the films that honestly SCARED me:
The Exorcist (the Director's Cut version!!!)
Blair Witch Project
Paranormal Activity (in theaters)
Rosemary's Baby
An American Werewolf in London
(im sure there are more, I'll add them when I think of them)

Now, if u like weird, funky horror cinema, I recommend ALL Dario Argento films.

I dont mind exposing my favs' around this time of the year.

John Carpenters:The Thing.- Favorite science fiction horror period. I think it's better than Alien!

Tales from the Krypt: Demon Night - Wll it was scary when I watched it when it first came out. lol. Now it's cheesy & sleezy to me.

Friday the 13th: Jason goes to Hell - Meh. It's the most entertaining flick out the series.

A Nightmare on Elm Street:2 Freddy Revenge- Under rated. I need this on BlueRay.

Creepshow 2- Old fashion style laughs.

Stephonh King's: IT- Nuthing is creepy about a regular clown, but this clown makes the younger viewers feel vulnerable in a sense.

Arachnophobia - It's a funny movie. Spiders are only scary once they attack your local town in swarms. Cool movie overall.

Hellraiser :2- Pin Head has a rather charming personality.

Beetlejuice- This is a classic for the kids & Adults. I liked as a lad.

Night before Christmas- Who doesn't watch this throwback.

The Audition- This is last movie I've seen that honestly made me jump three times.

ALL Zombie films- Who doesn't love a good zombie flick. Old or new, killing each other for a greater cause has fascinated us for years. Even our super heroes need brain from time to time.

About Me
On the first page of our story,
The future seemed so bright.
But this thing turned out so evil,
I don’t know why I’m still surprised.
Even angels have their wicked schemes,
And you take that to new extremes.
But you’ll always be my hero,
Even though you lost your mind...

The original Night of the Living Dead by George A. Romero. That should be your #1 choice for a scary movie along with the original Psycho.

I always thought that Hostel was kinda scary. very gory too.

Would never want that to happen in real life, I wonder if that really does?

I was watching "Even Scarier Movie Moments" I think it was last year on Bravo. And the producers said that they got the idea of Hostel, from this place in Thailand or somewhere in a Southeast Asian country. Anyway, there, you can pay a lot of money and see people get tortured.

Sleepaway Camp is hands down my favorite slasher movie of all time, havent seen any of the sequels though. It has the best mass murder scene ever on a raft and the twist at the end is so shocking and crazy, its 10x better than anything M Night could have thought up.

The Evil Dead movies, not so much the 2 and 3rd one, but the first one is genuinely frightening.

The Thing, great special effects, way creepy.

theres a movie I really like that no one has mentioned here yet, Cellar Dweller, its what the guy who created Chucky did before he created chucky, lol. Its corny but it's got good creature effects and lots of violence.

Last night I watched the House on Haunted Hill remake and its sequel, which was way better than what i expected for a straight to DVD release. The original is a classic Vincent Price movie as well, it you're into old horror films.

If anyone has ever heard of the Brizilian Coffin Joe films, they are amazing. totally worth reading the subtitles!

I really want to see that movie Trick 'r' Trick that was delayed a release for two years, they finally released it on dvd last month. I think I'm going to buy it and watch it halloween night.

Back on track:
I had to add Puppet Master It's a surprisingly good movie! really entertaining!

I forgot all about Hostel! That was a good one. It gives us Americans a heads up of what can go wrong if your an obvious tourist in a whole other country.

Hostel and Taken are two different types of genre, but they share one point; Even if you go to Amsterdam to smoke that legal weed or decide to bang that legal whore in Spain, there are crooks looking to profit off of your vulnerable tourist ass.

*In reality, the victims in horror movies lack one thing. Next time they walk through the woods at night, or walk down that dark corridor after a friend is brutally murdered, etc. they need to have this....

The original Hellraiser and also Event Horizon, that movie for some reason still gets under my skin, then again anything with visions of hell does

Nightmare on Elm Street series (aside from Freddy's Dead...some good laughs I guess, just kinda screwed the series)

Friday the 13th(original series of films, although I did enjoy the remake)

Halloween 1 and 2(originals)

Saw(the first one was brilliant IMO. The only down fall was that it helped to bring the "torture porn" sub-genre of horror to the forefront)

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

I can think of more, just tired at the moment. I would add Scream, but as much as I like it, I also resent it for killing the horror movie genre. We all subconsciously knew the fucking rules, but just pointing them out for all to see was just like helping the horror genre commit suicide.

more like comedy horror, kinda like freddy and chucky . and yeah most game based movies suck.

one of my personal all time favorites is the original texas chainsaw massacre. the movies a little dated now but it still kicks the shit outta the newer ones.

Yeah a lot of those movies are good. I just got done watching the Exorcist (hilarious). It was a bit freaky when I was a kid but now ...

I also watched Texas chainsaw massacre and there would be nothing scarier than leather face chasing you with his chainsaw. The only really part that got me was the actual real footage at the end when the crime scene wasn't properly secured and that guy got f'd up. btw thats the 2003 one im referring to.

Jacob's Ladder.

Very psychological, and quite the mindfuck. I'm not a big fan of gross-out slasher movies.
