Short from blowing it out with a blow dryer (like I did when mine fell in a cup of water) I don't know what else to tell you. I'm sorry your buddy died. Why not keep it as a momento instead of throwing it away?

Oven is bad for any electronics...

You should have tried nesting it and covering it in a bowl of uncooked rice over night. The rice pulls out the water and dries out the electronics with no heating involved. Hey, it works for remotes and cell phones that have gotten wet.
