New Live-Action Character Photo Released!

Thanks to Twitter, the stream of teases and factoids from the cast and crew of April's live-action Mortal Kombat digital series have come thick and fast! Series director, Kevin Tancharoen, has delivered yet another tantalizing message, mere days after sharing images of what appear to be Scorpion and the results of a Spine Rip Fatality!

The Most Electrifying Man in Mortal Kombat?...

This latest image comes with the quizzical message, "Who do you guys think this is?"

Fans on Twitter have been quick to speculate everywhere from Kano, to Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang), to an uncharacteristically fleshy looking Meat. If we aren't mistaken, however, that's Ryan Robbin -- actor previously confirmed to play what appears to be a decidedly shabby looking Raiden!

The Thunder God has a long history with assuming a mortal form, doing so within the storyline of the games, as well as the character's iconic introduction as a beggar in the 1995 film, Mortal Kombat.

It wouldn't be a Mortal Kombat tease without rampant speculation. Be sure to sign-up to the forum to share your thoughts on who this disheveled individual might be! You can also follow MKO on Twitter @MK_Online. For more details about the live-action series, refer to our full recap.

It's interesting, yet I hate short-haired Raiden.

Seems like a pretty distinct possibility (and the original file name lolz).

So, do we throw our hopes behind the idea that this is an adequate representation of Raiden's movements before the tournament, or is this a contrasting vote for a Rebirth style urbanized reinvention, versus the groovy-cool Scorpion ninja photo?

Seems like they're doing a fine job of keeping everything ambiguous.

Yeah, the MKA makeover was so ridiculous....But here, I really don't mind. Looking forward to the series! The shots we've seen so far look real awesome.

What the hell? That looks like a city in the background. Since when does raiden look like a hobo and hang out in cities for no reason

I'm mainly joking, but really though, is that raiden or what?

Probably taking on a mortal form to speak to someone on the streets. As usual, nice cinematography.

IT IS DEFINITELY NOT KANO. I zoomed in to 1200% using Paint.NET and changed the brightness. It is clearly a human eye in the shadow.

Unless of course it would be Kano pre-red eye.

But I'm on track with Rayden. The big issue is that when you search for Robbin on IMDB you get a female.
UPDATE: Ryan Robbins' IMDB page is here and it looks similar to him - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0730455/

I think it's Kano. Compare the hair lines between the guy up top and the guy in this photo: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3200563712/nm0004540

I like the wise cracking Raiden from Mortal Kombat Conquest.

But this does look cool.

Just heard from the MK costume designer that Sinder, Sub Zero and Scorpion costumes were here favourites to work on, while Raiden will be a surprise to fans

I think there's every possibility these stories feature a pre-cybernetics Kano given the projected timing and tone they're describing. Then again, maybe wacky cyborg eye accounts for 15% of the "supernatural" elements in the Jax/Sonya segments.

I'm not familiar enough with the actors to pretend to be completely without doubt, but they aren't exactly unknowns. Looks pretty clearly like Ryan Robbins to me, not so much like Darren Shahlavi. You could always Google Image search, if you want more than a few IMDB mugshots for reference.

As much fun as Christophe Lambert was as 'Christophe Lambert (dot dot dot) as Raiden' in Mortal Kombat, and Jeff Meek as an extention of that in the TV series... It'll be nice if we wind up with something a bit more in keeping with the impression of the games. Hopefully that 'surprise' from the designer involves something in keeping with the games, even if we start out with mortal hobo Raiden visiting the big city.

Personally I'd love to see something layered like the MKDA version, but I guess that's pretty unlikely...

Yea, I'm not expecting a traditional costume for Raiden from this thing. I expect some sort of sly, incidental reference to him that makes it obvious. Well, that and the lightning, voice, and general behavior.

I'm on board with those who think this is Raiden. You can't really kick someone's ass in the hat, and his longer hair has diluted some of his fights for me in the past from Conquest. At the same time, I do hope to see him in some sort of traditional form eventually. The God form is always more exciting and if they build up to that, the more I'll probably appreciate seeing him.
