Cold War hostilities are alive and well thanks to NetherRealm Studios and the Injustice: Gods Among Us Red Son pre-order bonus!
During last week's Battle Arena break; NetherRealm offered a closer look at the origins of their extra missions and bonus costumes in the first developer diary for 2013.
Created by Mark Millar and Dave Johnson; Superman: Red Son is an Eisner Award winning 2004 mini-series published by DC Comics.
A popular Elseworlds tale [divergent from the main DC Universe]; the series tells of a reality where Superman's Kryptonian rocket ship crash landed in 1950s Soviet Russia. The hammer & sickel replace the S of the iconic shield logo as Superman becomes a champion of the USSR and communism.
Superman & Wonder Woman appear with alternate skins very close to the Dave Johnson designs featured in the comic. Solomon Grundy receives the third costume -- an original creation for the game that supersedes other characters from the comic, such as President Lex Luthor, Batman, or Green Lantern.
The Red Son pre-order incentive is available with PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the standard game. Injustice: Gods Among Us officially hits shelves April 16, in the United States, with a simultaneous release in Australia [17th local]. Europe won't be far behind, April 19.
