Mortal Kombat X KeyArt Awards Game Trailer Finalist

Mortal Kombat X doesn't arrive for home consoles until April, 2015 - but the powerhouse franchise has already begun racking up awards with its pre-release promotion! The June Announce Trailer is the latest receiving accolades -- a finalist in the Hollywood Reporter KeyArt Awards!

Choose Your Destiny: Select other finalists below to load them in the player.

PLAYLIST
- Mortal Kombat X
- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Watch_Dogs
Mortal Kombat X is a finalist in the Audio/Visual category for Best Game Trailer. The live 2014 KeyArt Awards event takes place Thursday, October 23rd in Hollywood. Awards results announcement to be advised.

Warner Bros. face stiff competition from fellow category nominees: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Ghosts & Watch_Dogs.

The announce trailer is the work of Emmy Award winning effects house Digital Dimension. Although comprised completely of CG animation, initial speculation about the gameplay it implied has turned out to be mostly accurate! The trailer features a soundtrack by Warner Bros. recording artist Wiz Kkalifa.

In July, Variety reported two of the nominated trailers topped YouTube's 2014 Q2 viewership: MK finished #3 with 11 million hits, behind #1 trailer Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Live-action webseries Mortal Kombat: Legacy II enjoyed digital success with a win in last month's Streamy Awards [full story].

Amazing trailer, awful music. The opening theme was great, but as soon as the lyrics come in I just sigh...

Speaking of music, I would love the classic music type to come back.

Look at how interesting it was from MK1-MK4...then it really started going downhill from MK:DA onward:

I loved the music. Of course the people who don't prefer that type of music wouldn't agree with it for the trailer though.

I am a huge hip-hop fan so I don't hate it as much as others, im just not a wiz fan, or I haven't been since the first Cabin Fever, after that mixtape he fell off IMO

I liked it actually. MK people must not be Hip Hop/Rap fans.
Is the song terrible? No.
Does it fit with the MK atmosphere? Not that much.

It doesn't fit at all. In a game filled with sorcerers and martial artists, ninjas and assassins, cyborgs and gods etc. Hip Hop doesn't fit in the slightest. Maybe Eminem could have fit, with the right song...but his stuff sounds different altogether than your typical Hip Hop/Rap. Regardless of your taste in music, it just doesn't mesh.

First of all, right off the bat, the first thing we hear is that stupid "uh"(the sounds of a sexual climax) that 90% of rap songs have to have in them.

"Uh, I’mma tell you that you not my competition
I’mma always win, throw me in and I’m going in
I ain’t running, I’mma come until you leave
I'm 'bout to get it, talk about it ‘cause I really live it
On them nights on a mission, no fear, no hope in my vision
Don’t need no intervention, you ain’t down to rider
And even if you was I come out, point ‘em out, they all gon’ be missing
Wonder why I’m still here act a fool if you met me (act a fool if you met me)
You try to be brave and step up with you crew it’s too scary
Plus I’m too legendary, It’s what we go hard for
I’m rocking your block, you on top you get knocked off
I’m taking your place yeah, I'll make it my property
May be a game to you, probably, that’s a way of life for me
And so it’s only right for me, annihilate ‘em if they in my way or sight
Keep 'em up off of me, a weakness in you only make an appetite
Anytime I get into it I be looking at them, looking pitiful
And their condition it be critical, nothing less than original
Cross me once that's the end of you - who’s next?"

Just...doesn't seem fitting. I also don't care for heavy metal or dub step for the most part, I prefer the stuff they were doing in MK1-4. Hell, Immortal by Adema was a much better fit at least.

The beginning beat up until the lyrics was good though. It fit the atmosphere until then. So maybe the song without the lyrics would have been a nicer alternative.

To each their own though.

Nope. I liked it.

It is surprising to me that people can legitimately picture having old 90's video game tones fit in MKX. It would be silly.

I find it kind of silly that the music disenchanted people so much from the trailer. Did you see Sub-Zero suck in those snowflakes during his EX Iceball?

Tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that shit.

Brotha Lynch Hung, Tech N9ne, Em, Ganksta N-I-P , Prozak, and X-Raided (If he wasn't serving 30 to life) are just a few hip-hop artists that could have all made a good ass song for the trailer, only problem is they don't have the mainstream appeal Wiz has.

dude.. i noticed brotha.

I was PRAYING that they would make sub zero have a similar style in exectuing his ice ball in actual gameplay. But alas he throw's it with 1 hand (half the time) and the ice ball looks like a Mario Spikey:

I don't listen to much hip-hop, but it seems like RZA would be the man for the job.

>history of involvement with Ghost Dog, Kill Bill, Afro Samurai and Man with the Iron Fists
>obviously has respect and appreciation for the martial arts genre
>sounds like he knows what's he doing

I completely forgot about RZA. He would honestly be perfect for a Hip Hop MK theme song.

I personally love the one handed Iceball. Looks way more stylish than the standard 2 handed Iceball. What made the Iceball in the trailer cool was that they really focused on the Iceball, like the lighting got dark and we seen him charge that Iceball.

My only gripe about his EX Iceball is that it's too fast. He should charge that fucker and then unleash it.

Charging makes sense with things like Shinku Hadoken or whatever, because what you're getting out of it is a fireball that does way more damage. The problem is that Sub's freeze attacks never deal any actual damage. He can't really freeze you any harder, so a super ice ball that has charging frames on start-up would be kinda impractical.

Unless his EX ice ball is an ice grenade. That could work.

The deposition of ice (the vapor surrounding his hands and body) is a good look too.
