Decades before the Hollywood prequel trend - Mortal Kombat: Conquest told the ancient backstory to the tournament of the major motion picture!

Paolo Montalban stars as Kung Lao: a fighting monk destined to reign as Earthrealm's great Mortal Kombat Champion after defeating Shang Tsung (Bruce Locke) in the tournament final!

Guided by Raiden (Jeffrey Meek); Kung Lao honors the death of his beloved Geneviere Reyland (Jennifer Renton), re-establishing her trading post in the city of Zhuzin with the help of her former bodyguard, Siro (Daniel Bernhardt) and a thief imprisoned by her father, Taja (Kristanna Loken). The trio fight to defend themselves and the Earthrealm from the machinations of Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Quan Chi and many more!

For decades, Mortal Kombat has proven its popularity past the video game realm into movies, an animated series and web series as well as this live-action television title,” said said Rosemary Markson, WBHEG Senior Vice President, TV Brand Management and Retail Marketing. “We are thrilled to release Mortal Kombat: Conquest for the first time ever on DVD for longtime fans to relive the action as well as introduce new generations to the prequel storylines and events that took place prior to the video games and movies.

For fans who missed the series on its first run - it will be a fantastic opportunity to discover some intriguing ideas and coincidences! See the first time Shang Tsung & Quan Chi teamed in any context in the episode Unholy Alliance! Witness the first appearance of an ancient Outworld instructor named Master Cho! You'll even discover insectoid Amazonian warriors invading the realm long before D'Vorah in Kreeya!

From Jeffrey Meek's stunning turn as both Raiden and a paranoid, tempestuous Shao Kahn, to Adoni Maropis as Quan Chi - there is a lot to appreciate about this truly underrated series! Try as I might, I just never cared for this series. 50% fight scenes and 50% T&A with some story in there somewhere.

I still don't quite like the show that much well for one reason how it ended was stupid but I am going to back this show up and say it had some good action in it and a few episodes were really good. I just wished it had a better ending that is all I am going to say about this show.

I will rock you.

Didn't see it when it originally air on TNT. Caught glimpse of it when it air on syndicated late late night. Finally saw the entire series on YouTube. It was actually pretty good. I was hoping for a second season.

I like what they did with Kung Lao on the box cover:

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Cut off his lower half so people don't see his ugly pants.

What the fuck? Bo' Rai Cho made his first appearance in this show? How the hell did I not know this?

Fuck, I think i'm gonna get it now. I've never actually seen this series, and i'm interested in how closely it resembles the games.

Barely, it's more of a prequel to the movie universe imo and it resembles Annihilation more than anything but it's good campy fun and the fight scenes are pretty dope too.

The press release says the soundtrack is in Dolby Digital 5.1 so no doubt this will be an upgrade from the official Australian release which only has a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack.

I wonder if they have improved the picture quality also.

If only this was remastered in HD and released on Blu-ray!

I know, it sucks they're not releasing it on Blu-ray, I'm surprised. Maybe they will if this sells well.

I'm pumped~ I just wish it had special features, maybe new interviews with some of the former cast members.

Great, I loved this series.

The ending was spot on, Shao Kahn was intelligent, as a ruler should be.

All things can be explained, like there being Sub-Zeros, Scorpions and Noob Saibots before (the last 2 are after all creations of the Netherealm, someone could have had the title before, not just in our lifetime).

Thank you, you've made my day happier! I couldn't have picked a better scene.

When he says "2 sorcerers" I remember all the good scenes with those great villains and I really wish they weren't dead.

When he says "a daughter" with regret in his voice it's a window into an emperor's soul, hardened, but still capable of empathy.

But when he says "a champion"......... with all that respect.......... that's the moment I fell in love with Mortal Kombat!

Thank you MK Conquest

RE: Mortal Kombat: Conquest Complete Series Coming to DVD

Jeff Meek is the greatest actor to ever be featured on Mortal Kombat. It's not saying much I suppose, but he was light years away from everyone else on any movie, show or game. Brilliant actor, and the soul of MKC IMO.
Sure it was a lot of flashy, nonsense fight scenes, bad special effects and absurdly hot women, but there was story, characters and tension. The build up towards the finale was phenomenal, with Shao Kahn's increasing paranoia and even Kung Lao himself, the pacifist, beginning to speak like a murderer.

The soundtrack was also fucking amazing, guy. It was like one guy with a synthesiser, but the tunes were off the hook catchy and the fight themes got you pumped.
A few highlights of the show I would have to say were Reptile, as ruler of Zaterra instead of just some ninja assassin, having to deal with politics in Outworld, and hunger for freedom for his people; Reiko, who was in maybe 2 to 3 episodes but was massively improved over the games in terms of character - it sure helped that he was played by Jim Helsinger, another brilliant stage actor; and Omegis, who at first appeared to be just a porn star placed into the show for boobs yet turned out to be one of the more fascinating and developed characters.
It was a damn shame they never showed us more of Smoke and Sub-Zero, Master Cho or the festival of death.

Having said these things, and as a huge fan of the show ever since I was like 10, I must say, I have NO FUCKING CLUE who the person on the upper right of the dvd cover is.

I've been wondering who that is in the upper right hand corner myself. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it Taja's thief friend? Hard to tell. Very odd choice, to be sure.

Utterly bizarre. Scorpion, Reptile, Shang Tsung, or literally any other character would have been a better choice.
