- New ‘Halloween’ Movie Taps Director David Gordon Green, Writer Danny McBride

David Gordon Green has come on board to direct “Halloween” for Miramax with an Oct. 19, 2018, release date.

Franchise originator John Carpenter made the announcement Thursday from his Facebook page. Gordon Green, whose credits include “Stronger,” “Our Brand Is Crisis” and “Pineapple Express” is teaming with Danny McBride to write the script.

As previously announced, Carpenter will executive produce with Malek Akkad producing for Trancas and horror specialist Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse. Gordon Green and McBride will also executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner.

Zanne Devine and David Thwaites will oversee for Miramax, which is co-financing with Blumhouse.

Carpenter said in the Facebook post:

“So you say you want a Revolution?
You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again?
Well so do I.
So here’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for:
David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team. David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed.
David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and... WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.”
David Gordon Green said: “John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ was a monumental horror film experience for me and millions of film fans. It’s an honor to be working with this creative team to carve a new path in the tale of Michael Myers.”

Potentially exciting prospect!

- ‘Halloween’ Will Not Be a Remake; Picks Up After First Two Original Films!

So what was that pitch, you ask? Speaking with CinemaBlend, McBride just dropped the bombshell that the new film is most definitely NOT going to be a remake!

Said McBride:

You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we’re focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there.

McBride also promised a no-laughs, return to form horror flick:

Green and I are definitely going to [do] a straight-up horror. Halloween has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. There’s a simplicity and an efficiency to that first one that I think allows the movies just to be scary as hell. And so Green and I, our approach is to get back to that.

Carpenter will executive produce with Malek Akkad producing for Trancas and Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse. Gordon Green and McBride will also executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner.

The new Halloween is coming on October 19th, 2018.

More encouraging news!

I'm not crazy about the whole 'only the first two count' phase that's creeping into franchise movies, but it's a much lesser evil than remakes. With any luck it's more of a don't ask, don't tell.

Wow! I heard about this yesterday and kinda shrugged it off. Seeing so much praise and support by Carpenter (also him being apart of this movie as Exec. Producer) I'm kinda looking to see more of this as it goes on. I didn't even know he was gonna be involved with this.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Halloween 3 is a great movie. I don't give a damn what people think of me.

As much as I want this to be good, this is the second time we've been asked to ignore the events of Halloween 4-6 in order for Laurie Strode to make her return and finally face off against Michael. This is a reboot of a reboot coming a few years after two remakes. I just don't have that much faith anymore. I hope I'm wrong in that feeling, though. Admittedly, it will be nice for the Halloween series to not end with Busta Rhymes as the hero. In my opinion, the Myer's story ended at II and the series ended at III. I honestly enjoy Season of the Witch for what it is, and I wish Halloween would have followed through with the anthology idea. We'll see if this one works out.

- Danny McBride Explains More ‘Halloween’ Plot Details; “As if First Halloween Ended in Different Way”

“We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one,” McBride confirmed. “It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality.“

“It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way,” McBride added, suggesting the new film may rewrite even the events of the original.

“I just hope that we don’t fuck it up and piss people off,” McBride also noted during the chat. “This is such a diehard fan base. You don’t want horror fans being your enemies because they show up at your house with masks on. We are diehard fans of Halloween. We’re watching all the sequels and where things have taken left turns here and there that maybe bites for fans, and at least trying to deliver what we would have wanted to see. Hopefully that will line up with most fans.”

Ehhhhhhh... Not so much.

Gheez i haven't posted here in such a long time.

Halloween is my all time favorite horror movie. Had no idea they where making a new one. Definitely torn on what I'm reading. It's cool John Carpenter is on board with the new film, but with all the different reboots and attempts at retconing different films. this has the potential to turn out like shit.

So they released H2O and asked the community to ignore everything after Halloween 2, now they are doing a new reboot and asking people to even forget Halloween 2.

I think they are making a big mistake by bringing back Jaime Lee Curtis. Nothing against her, but I honestly don't see anything new they can do with her chacter by bringing her back. She got a sequel with 2, and then another one with H20, where her character grew and faced her fears with him.

As much as it pains me to say this, I think it would have made more sense to try and retcon H20, and have it set up as Josh heartnett's daughter (Jaime lee curtis's granddaughter). Would have given them more room with character development IMO.

- Original Shape Actor Playing Michael Myers in ‘Halloween’ 2018! [Exclusive]

In 1978, John Carpenter gave birth to Michael Myers in Halloween, a masked maniac hellbent on killing babysitters in the small town of Haddonfield, IL. The killer known simply as “The Shape” will be returning 40 years later to finish the job.

Bloody Disgusting learned and exclusively confirmed that actor, director, and screenwriter, Nick Castle, will return to the role of Michael Myers in Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions and Miramax’s Halloween, which will be released by Universal Pictures on Friday, October 19, 2018.

While Castle will be pulling on the infamous mask once more, Bloody Disgusting was also able to confirm that stunt performer and actor James Jude Courtney has also been cast to play Myers!

It gets even better.

Also coming on board is Academy Award-winning make-up and VFX artist, Christopher Nelson (Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Sin City, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2)!

An authentic if unnecessary flourish.

Trailer is finally here: Halloween 2018 trailer
I think I stand corrected. This actually looks pretty amazing.
Out of all the previous films, I only haven't seen Rob zombie's second film. I really enjoyed Zombie's first Halloween film. This new movie looks to put that one to shame. It really had a Halloween 1 vibe to it.

Keep it that way friend. You’ll live a much happier life.

But, yeah. Color me surprised as well. This looks like it may be a fun movie. Feels like they may be trying to mash the 1st movies’s tension with the 2nd movie’s intensity...if that makes any sense. I look forward to more.

The trailer for this movie, feels like it's an actual true sequel to the original movie, rather than the actual Halloween 2, which seemed more of a cash grab, because the first movie was more successful than they thought it would be.

From everything I've been reading about this new movie, it seems like Blumhouse is taking the series in a new direction, and changing things that John Carpenter himself wasn't happy with about Halloween 2 and all the subsequent movies after that. It's also seems like it's trying to play homage to all the other movies while cutting it them out as well.

It's looking really good IMO.
