what do you consider to be out of left field for the New Mortal Kombat, can you see it possibly working if it was good?

for example, out of left field would be somehow Hsu Hao and Stryker becomes heroes and somehow stops Onaga that Possessed Raiden in Edenia in an Epic battle.

I've always been attached to the MK lore, which I get isn't THAT big of a component for an online fighting game. But I'd really dig a story with a lot of depth, and nostalgia makes me want an open world/MKD konquest styled mode.

A few ideas seem mandatory:

1) find a new angle for a Sub/Scorp rivalry. Both clans being at peak strength really lends itself to the rivalry finding a new breath. Maybe Raiden doing some Machiavellian power games to pit the two against each other for some sort of "earthrealm defender" spot? That seems weak but its an initial thought. seems like you need something more than just making the two seem stupid and pitting them against each other again, so some kind of informed conflict that would result in a clan war.

2) The MK stories always seem to want to go for the subversive angle, but always do it in a cheap way by either killing someone, killing everyone, or time travel. But what I think is an interesting thing potentially being set up is that Earthrealm are the "bad guys." I'd like to see this fully embraced, with every faction from Earth being in a moral grey area. Raiden being an aggressive force seems to be a given, but seeing the special forces having iffy motives would be a fresh take. Maybe an ends justify the means support of a 3rd faction that is morally reprehensible all the while being opposed to Raiden. This might resolve number 1), as scorpion could align with 1 earth faction and Sub with another. This would be especially compelling if Takeda is caught in the middle between Kenshi and Scorp.

3) On the other side of the coin, making Kotal's squad the babyface/white hats would be something. It would be especially something if, as the story progresses, the player seems ethically compelled to root for Lui/Kitana/Netherrealm.

4) have Sub/Scorp resolve conflict and ultimately sacrifice themselves to open some vulnerability that makes the big bad mortal. (Probably Onaga right?). Don't do a pointless death, like really kill them and introduce the next up's in their clans. Their storylines are spent, for the most part. Just sort of rehashing the same stuff. End their stories, bring the next man up, and preserve their classic looks for costume alts for future games.

These are just a few rough brainstorms I have. Feel free to criticize/add on.

Lots of great, well thought-out ideas..

First, if people at this point aren't playing MK for the story, they're playing the wrong game. It has the richest story of any fighting game currently out there. In the past I would've argued that Soul Edge/Soul Calibur would've edged out, but that series has gone way off the deep end.

I definitely see where you are coming from, but from a personal standpoint, the putting aside of the old rivalries with Sub-Zero and Scorpion was one of the greatest defining moments of the series for me. I would hope that this remains, and this is something I would hate to see ruined by a contrived plot element or some form of power play from an outside entity. Your idea that Raiden may do such a thing has a lot of merit. I would just hate to see it happen when the potential storyline and plot of the next game being affected by the alliance between these two former enemy clans could be very exciting.

The rebooted MK timeline has allowed Mortal Kombat to excel at something it never has in the past, which is tell a story. The 3D era games, as much as I hated them, began to strengthen on storytelling (even if it went completely off-the-rails with all the new realms), but I don't think a free-roaming Konquest mode is really necessary, as the Deception version was a boring fetch quest time killer that, while fleshing out Shujinko's story, felt kind of blah in the long run. Armageddon's was considerably better since it was more of an action game, but it was a distraction that I felt could've been sacrificed in favor of a better overall game. I didn't like Armageddon at all because it felt unpolished.

At this point in the series we are ready for something completely new. I know a few things from MKX turned people off (the Green Energy, for example) but this rebooted timeline has allowed characters to grow and expand in ways they never have before. It has arguably the best story telling in fighting games, and as long as they can continue to churn out a quality story I will continue to be very happy with the direction they have decided to go.

If Onaga has any involvement in this game which I'm doubting he will, I'd personally would like to see him have some of his generals playable.

I'd give Onaga a revived, and mind controlled Reiko, Havik, and Skarlet.

The rest I'd give him about two to three new characters in his ranks.

Half of Kotal's crew would battle alongside the Earthrealmers in an uneasy alliance to stop Onaga from consuming both realms.

So I'd put in Kotal Kahn, Erron Black, and Reptile working with Kung Jin, Cassie Cage, Takeda, Frost, Kenshi, Sub-Zero, and Johnny Cage. Raiden, Scorpion, Sonya, Jax, and Jacquie would be working together to betray Kotal's squad after Onagas defeat and the other heroes try to stop him setting up a civil war going into mk12.

I think Onaga will definitely be part of MK11, in fact his reveal is the one I'm most looking forward to before the game's release. A new streamlined design and awesome move set are sure to make The Dragon King one of the most highly anticipated characters, if he is included. I'm not as confident about Reiko and Havik making the cut, but I sure hope they do. I'm meh on Skarlett, although I do think she was cool in MK9.
As far as the story goes, I don't really care what they do. I trust NRS will do a great job with it.

Having the player play as the Outworld characters in the story against the Earthrealm invaders. It would certainly help with the "punching bag" status a lot of them seem to be in.

They always do something with the Krypt. MKX's Krypt was awesome to go through... once. The way you "borrowed" certain characters powers in specific spots was fun.

I can see them maybe doing a "custom" character that would run around and you would unlock koffins and find more powers in the mode. I doubt a Shujinko will happen but maybe an avatar.

I want more story stuff. Maybe having a moment where it isn't all in motion. Maybe a more visual novel style, something that can fill the gaps between MKX and MKXI using the characters you dont play as in the story mode proper.

- Have Onaga return and immediately kill off the Kombat Kids. They become his servants like Jax, Kitana, Johnny, ect. from Deception. Story revolves around the adults trying to save / resurrect them.
- Onaga makes a power play and slaughters a lot of the Special Forces in an Outworld base. Jax dies.
- Drives Raiden even more over the edge and makes a 'Deadly Alliance' with Liu Kang.
- Sonya, Johnny and Kenshi begin helping to build an unstable but powerful rebellion in Outworld with Kotal, his minions and newcomers to the new timeline like Li Mei, Shujinko, Nitara, Daegon, ect.

Hey NRS, I'll open up my schedule if you'd like to hire me on part-time. lmao

Out of left field? What if instead of MK11, the next game takes place in the distant past?

They could call it Mortal Kombat Origins, and it could take place during the time when the Great Kung Lao first defeated Shang Tsung, followed by Tsung returning with Goro and essentially taking over the tournament.

They could set it some 700 years ago, and have characters that were definitely alive back then like TG Kung Lao, Raiden, Fujin, Shang Tsung, Goro, Kitana, Jade, Argus and Bo Rai Cho along with others that certainly could’ve been alive like Baraka, Sareena, Ashrah, Havik, etc.

But having it set in this time period could allow for some really cool character types with warriors from all over the world from that time in traditional outfits and what not.

Now, would I want this over the continuation of the story and MK11? No. But if they said they’re not doing MK11 right now, but something else MK related, I think this could be cool.

"Out of left field" this is what I expect.

Official Announcement: October 31st, 2018
The reason for this is simple - based on Boon trolling and hints dropped since post-MKX, all signs point to Michael Meyers being one of the horror guest characters in the next installment of MK. Boon has been hinting consistently that work has been well underway on MK11 for quite some time, and recent tweets have made correlation to this Halloween film being the 11th installment of the original series. Hence, the release date announcement will occur in tandem with

Michael Meyers Guest Character Announcement

As stated above, Meyers is undoubtedly the horror guest character for MK11. They will announce this side-by-side with the official announcement of the release date for MK11, timed not conicidentally on October 31st, 2018.

Release date: April or May 2019, possible late release of September or October

In tandem with the unusual and occasion-timed announcement on Halloween, we'll also see that despite the long delay in first announcement and expectation that there will be a significant amount of time between announcement and release, we will instead see that the game is on track to be delivered on the usual April (MK) or May (Injustice) release schedule. Should this not be the case, I would expect that we will instead see a September or October release date in 2019 instead, at the very latest.

If this is the case, while much later than usual, it will still fit into the typical Netherrealm release schedule:

4 years between series entries, 2 years between game releases (MK 2011 - Injustice 2013 - MKX 2015 - Injustuce 2 2017 - MK11 2019)

It would not be in the best interests of Netherrealm Studios to have 2 years in a row without a game release, hence MK11 is probably on track for 2019.

So, in short, the announcement of the next MK game, with a much sooner than anticipated release date occurring on October 31st would be "out of left field" in my opinion.

I like how this sounds. Plus all the chatter of late supports it. I’ve been calling IPS finals for a while with a standard spring release to follow. This way really does work out better. No long lull between announcements, Kombat kasts, etc. Non stop hype till release.

Boon remarking about this Halloween being the 11th had me grinning from ear to ear. Kombat season is upon us.

Even though it was only a theory of mine, I am disappointed that it didn't come to be. Seemed like it would've been an ideal time to reveal the game.

in my other thread about Bi-han and Noob Saibot becoming different characters, that would be out of left field due to that many people like the idea of Bi-Han and Noob Saibot.

On a related note, due to rumor mill by Dynasty a youtuber that does mortal kombat videos, did a video with Drahmin and Quan Chi concept art that looks great.

I know that the Kombat Kids are a mixed bag with the fans. Well to have something new and if Drahmin and Quan Chi do become the New Deadly Alliance, having Bi-Han and Saibot as Possible heroes against New Deadly Alliance. Of Course the New Deadly Alliance setting up Onaga is possible as well.

Indeed. IPS is it for this year, as far as I’m concerned. If E3 or a prime time spot on ESPN isn’t big enough for a reveal, I doubt the game awards will even have a chance.

All this silence, man...it’s deafening, haha.

I think Michael Myers will still be a guest horror character along with Pennywise.
