Live-Action Webseries Scheduled for Release Early 2016

It was first announced late in 2014, and confirmed completed this past August. Now, according to director Garrett Warren, the third Mortal Kombat live-action webseries finally has a release schedule for early 2016!

Speaking to a fan on Twitter, Garrett said, "It is scheduled to be released early next year." Adding in reply to another fan, "I have been told that it will be released early next year."

Given the bumpy ride to completion the third series has appeared to have, it's understandable that this isn't the most convincing of confirmations. Two previous series, directed by Kevin Tancharoen, were noted for their low budget, and fast shooting to release schedule.

An early 2016 release positions the series -- rumoured to be called Mortal Kombat: Generations -- somewhere opposite downloadable content extras released as Kombat Pack 2. The pack introduces Bo' Rai Cho to the Mortal Kombat X playable roster: a character believed to have a prominent role in episodes starring Lewis Tan as Kung Jin [read more].

Mortal Kombat X Live-Action Webseries Series Info

Announced as part of a new digital content division in 2014 [full story]: Mortal Kombat X will mark the third time the best selling fighting game franchise has inspired a live-action series for the web!

In contrast to their previous outings; Warner Brothers have kept a tight lid on the new series - releasing little to no official information. A series title, release date and relation to Legacy II have continued to remain undefined -- a presumed April tie-in unfulfilled as the latest game came and went.

We learned production began back in January, with a short burst of social media sharing giving us limited casting details. The return of Casper Van Dien and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa came via their own social media networks. Series newcomer Lewis Tan offered a glimpse of his character and working title, eventually lending credence to an early rumored casting call.

Mortal Kombat Online learned just last week that the series has reached completion. With the trickle of information opening up in time for the Mortal Kombat movie's 20th anniversary, we've gathered up the most reliable information in a single convenient resource! This Kombat Kompendium will be updated as new information arises. Scroll to the bottom to find direct links to updates.

Lewis Tan is Kung Jin in New Webseries Photo

New character Kung Jin will make the leap from video game to live-action series when actor/model Lewis Tan debuts in Mortal Kombat X. The actor confirmed his role via Instagram, sharing a new photo in costume as the thief turned Shaolin Monk. It confirms popular speculation about his role sparked by previous photos.

Third Mortal Kombat Live-Action Webseries Completed

Despite beginning production and principal photography back in January -- a third Mortal Kombat live-action webseries is proving remarkably elusive!

Officially announced last October; the series was promoted as a tie-in for the April release of Mortal Kombat X [full story]. With early reports confirming appearances by new characters from the video game - expectations placed the series launch sometime within the Second Quarter. Instead, the console release has come and gone - with little to no information about the project since the shooting months.

There remains no official release date, but Mortal Kombat Online can confirm the webseries has been completed.

A source close to the project recently told MK Online: "I wish I could tell you a release date, but I can tell you it's finally finished".

Speculation may infer (from wording) that delays slowed completion of the untitled series, rumoured to be called Mortal Kombat: Generations. The first series of Mortal Kombat: Legacy notably delayed its final episode for two months in 2011, delivering a visual effects heavy finale during San Diego Comic Con [watch]. It remains unclear if the new series will have ties with the previous series.

Legacy II stars Casper Van Dien and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa have confirmed their returns for the upcoming series. Stunt coordinator Garrett Warren steps into the Director's chair for series 3, replacing departing figurehead Kevin Tancharoen.
