This, again, is a lag concern. I think that distance is the biggest factor that affects lag amount. I'm not sure if it's distance between opponents, or distance of the opponents from the main server, but either way, lag sucks. If the matches can't be set up with distance as a factor, then at least we can get an idea of what to expect lag-wise when matchups are posted.
I'd rather fight someone with a super fast connection than a laggy one, regardless of whether it's affected by distance or "connection speed". If I lose at least I know it was due to the other fighter's skill and not due to my own timing being off from lag.

I don't think distance has as much to do with it as others do. I've played MKF quite a few times and he's on the opposite coast as me. Whenever I used to play QuitoTheOne (He's in Canada) same thing. I never lose Alexi09 either and he is also in Canada. I think it's just a matter of you or your opponent having a not so great connection. Like Bobby Blaze (I always disconnect from him.) I've had issues with PigHut too. These guys are closer to me than the many people I play. I'm afraid if you disconnect the round is void and you'll have to start over. You can usually tell the difference between a disconnect and a pull.
One more thing... Just because you get arranged with someone close in the first round, you could get someone really far away the 2nd round, so I think we'll just have to do this randomly. I'm pretty much just going to print out the roster once we have 24 players, but out the names, drop them in a hat or box, and pull them that way.

as for any lag issues... there's a couple people who i have not been able to play whatsoever. well, three i can think of off the top of my head. Konqrr, pigofthehut, jedifrank. not that i wouldn't want to be matched up with these guys, but it could be a small problem.

I think you misunderstood, I'm not asking you to arrange matches by location, just to post opponent's locations, that's all. Just to give an idea of what to expect. Just knowing where your opponent is located won't affect any randomness that I can see.
As for disconnects, I have NEVER pulled on xbox for any reason, and almost never on PS2. That's not a concern.
As I said, I'm in NJ, and on cable modem, Optimum Online.

TOURNAMENT UPDATE...
Well, I did a little further calculations on how many people we need to make this work. 24 won't do it. That will end up with 3 people as the finals. We need 16 (like the example chart at the very top of this thread) or 32. We got 21 people within a few days. Think we can get another 11? If we can this will be HUGE... BNR? HB? Atari2600? Bobby Blaze?
If we get 32 guys we can make the 1 winner the ULTIMATE MKD CHAMPION, then we can have 4 levels below that (Platinum, gold, silver, bronze) which means anyone making it to the 2nd level will at least be ranked bronze. Half the contenders would get a rank. We'd have 1 MKD winner, 1 platinum level player (The loser in the very last round,) 2 gold level players, 4 silver level players, and 8 bronze level players.
Looks good, all we need are 11 more guys! I'll try to get my buddy to join. I know there are at least 20 other guys out there that read this board. Join the tournament, it's free and you only have to play 1 opponent per week, first to 7 wins. Easy!
