You should select certain parts (Maybe using the magnetic select) and change your brush to "color" if you want to simply make a pallette swap. Then just pick a color and go over the selected area.

You should fix the edges as well, maybe feathering them out alittle bit. Or try adding a background behind it, so it sticks out a little more without showing much of the jagged/choppy edges.

I will give you a 2/5 for effort, and because it's your 1st time with PS, and everyone starts off horrible and gradually works their way to become better and better.

The omnious colors do go well, as it being a "Chameleon".

However, you might wanna try another style for that, color shading.

It takes forever, with the uses of a lot colors and all, but it pays off in the end.
