It's incredible how people recognize this in a boring SF character who uses guns (Jacqui), but don't recognize it in the other boring character who uses military gimmicks (Cassie), who is just whiter.

There's really not really much difference.

I mean, look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1CRtnOfpUs

Basically no difference. Pulling out guns and pistols and military gimmick. Only difference is that Cassie is also a clone, stealing moves from Johnny, like the nut punch and the green aura.

Are we really going to complain about these two in another thread? I’m not one to stifle any discussion, but I think this dead horse has been beaten into a fine red mist by now.

Jacqui does not have $500 shoes.

Cage Quips, a tight bodysuit and Green Energy.

Now admittedly Jacqui quips too but nobody cares what she has to say.

I find them both equally boring tbh. They just bring nothing new to the table. Let's see if anything changes in MK11.

Heres my problem. Cassie has an interesting personality and if done correctly could be put through the whole hero's journey thing, if obviously separated from her parents giving her room to breathe.

Jacqui, on the other hand, fell to the background, had no personality and had, at least to me, boring gameplay and a bad design. Now, if given more time to shine, a better design (like those from the Krypt in X) and a better moveset then I would be all in on Jacqui. If shes a copy of what they presented in X again, however, hard pass.

Cassie wins (eSports) tournaments. Jacqui does not. Jacqui is a very good character who has good mix-ups and a solid move set, but her reach is severely limited. As a result of that, Jacqui has what many have labeled "T. rex arms". As someone who attempted to main Jacqui at one point, I can attest to this and attribute it to being the sole reason that I shied away from her when facing serious competition.

Also, Cassie doesn't have a variation where spamming is a viable tactic. Even with her guns, Cassie can't spam. I have faced many Jacqui "Full Auto" spammers and never have I faced an opponent who was nearly let alone equally as spammy. Cassie is a very, very good character with a lot of tools that can be used to her advantage. She has one variation that borrows moves from Johnny's move set, but not to such a degree that she seems like a clone. The "Nut Punch" is the only legitimate knockoff maneuver, and even it has its own flair.

The two characters have absolutely nothing in common when it comes to play style and Cassie just happens to have an advantage. It has nothing to do with Cassie being more popular because she's "whiter".

Seriously?? They both shoot guns! What's the big difference in the video between what happends at 1:20 and what happends at 1:35 with them shooting?

The biggest crime of Selfie Cage are, Sonya and Johnny are NOT parent material... she destroyed them, can’t take them serious anymore... I used to like them.

She always has to win, now she beat Shinnock... boring!

I hate the selfie new generation, and Cassie is their ugly queen.

She turns MK into a boring soap.

Jacqui could have worked, if Sonya didn’t suddenly need gadgets as well...

I don't mind Jacqui. She has a good back story. As to why people favor Cassie over her, I might have a few theories. During the MKX reveal, Cassie was introduced first. That gives her the upper advantage of seeing her with the cool gadgets first. Also, both Cassie's parents are in the game/ known. Cassie is also the main hero that defeats Shinnok. With all that said, I can see why she is more highlighted in the game. I wouldn't give up hope on Jacqui though. If Jax isn't in the game, I can see Jacqui having a nice set of gear from her father. That could definitely help increase her popularity.

First of all, almost nothing you said here makes sense as far criticism is concerned. If I could suggest one thing, it would be to explain yourself in full sentences instead of typing things out like you're whipping up a series of text messages. Getting to it, then.

Was your sudden dislike for Johnny and Sonya the result of Sonya giving birth to Cassie in the first place? Did her existence limit their personalities and play styles? Overall, Johnny seems like a fine character to me. Concerning his play style, he's lacking in the mix-up department, but he's a solid character overall. Sonya's a mix-up goddess and has been a mainstay in (eSports) tournaments. The first player to come to mind is Scar, who damn near downed SonicFox in one tournament grand final. I've always thought Sonya was boring without Johnny attached to her for comedic relief, so they make an interesting and appealing couple. That's my opinion, at least.

Also, Cassie doesn't "always [have] to win". She got her ass handed to her by Sub-Zero in story mode. So, my suggestion here is that you replay story mode and consider altering your critique just a pinch. Just a suggestion, though.

If one character is capable of turning "MK into a boring soap", then you must have a very limited collection of games or a bunch that you absolutely despise because one character, apparently, is capable of ruining an entire game for you. You're on your own as far getting any help with that is concerned, lol.

Does diversity in play style between characters not make them appealing enough for you? Dumbing them down to characters who need "gadgets" is a simpleminded approach, in my opinion. There are so many more facets to each character if you just take the time to learn how to play them. Otherwise, it seems you'll never realize the unique complexities in each character.

Cassie and the rest of the Kombat Kids got their collective butts spanked by Sub-Zero. That doesn't fall under "Always has to win". Try harder next time.

Have you even played them, bro? If you played them well enough and took the time to learn their unique styles, you'd be able to see the differences between the two characters. Breaking them down to the fact that they both "shoot guns!" is about as oversimplified as one can get.

Also, maybe start shrinking the length of your thread titles.

Personality-wise, Jaqui was my favorite of the Kombat Kids. She had the least amount of snark of the four. At least with Cassie, it made sense given her dad is arguably the snarkiest character in MKX, so yeah, canonically, it makes all the sense in the world for her to share his sense of humor. Takeda and Kung Jin felt more obnoxious to me.

Tgat said, gameplay-wise, I found Takeda and Kung Jin to have more enjoyable gameplay than Cassie and Jaqui. I’m hoping that the deemphasis on speed and ability to get in quickly will result in a new approach to how Cassie and Jaqui play. Maybe less with the guns and more new ideas?

Either way, I like all four, flaws and all, and don’t mind seeing any of them in MK11 provided they’re fun to use and fit the narrative. I can see preferring other characters, but I don’t overly get the hatred for these two. There’s still room for them to grow and I hope NRS can really take them to the next level.

I agree with this. I liked her as a shy girl. She is not the typical adolescent, like Cassie is. Takeda was pretty down to Earth too.

But what do we do with the people who want the kombat kids to be more and more pop culture mirrors? That doesn't mirror the Mortal Kombat I know, of shaolin monks training in seclusion and away from the modern world, the real heroes of the Tournaments.

It's just another troll thread. I'm not so sure there's a tremendous difference between people slamming/defending the two characters in the first place.

In my opinion the only way either of these characters can work is by letting go of their parents, NRS need to choose, Kombat Kids or Klassics having both hanging around in every game will not work and everyone will keep hating on the Kombat Kids!

I dig Jacqui... i agree she needs an update, but overall I like her. As the matter of fact, I have no problem with the MK kids, they brought something new to us who have been playing MK since the first one was released, and at the same time hinged the newer generation. They are the new defenders... NRS might decide to retire the first generation soon for story development. I know we cannot all agree on everything and it's respectful-- hey I'm the few that likes Jerek Ashrah, Kira, Kai, Hotaru... to name a few.
