Are you a good community?

By this, I mean: You respect other people's opinions and don't try to impose your own opinion on them because you think you're right, and you don't flame other people for sharing a secret you have nothing to do with but still angers you.

The reason I'm asking this, is because I'm about to share a dark secret about my past experience with MK9, which leads to why I can't decide between Sub-Zero or Scorpion as my Favorite MK Character.

But I won't share it if I know you people are gonna flame me for any part of it. So please give me the honest truth: Are you good people?

I would say yes, majority of the users here are a bunch of good people.

But seeing how you've already made your decision based on one post that was meant as a joke, I guess... Eh... my answer really doesn't make that much of a difference now.

All right then, here we go...

I'm gonna post three emails (in their entirety) that I sent to Netherrealm Studios a while ago, and the responses to the first two letters, which pretty much tells my whole dilemma.

Keep in mind however, that when I say "the fanbase" in these emails, I don't mean you people because you had nothing to do with any of this. I'm mostly referring to TRMK, MKSecrets.net, and Kamidogu:

Email #1:
Dear Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Netherrealm Studios,

I am the SpiDoL who has already written to you twice about Mortal Kombat 2011, how it deeply offended me, and how the Mortal Kombat fanbase was so cruel to me.

I appreciated your response to my second letter, but unfortunately, it's doing very little to help. The pain and suffering this dilemma is causing me is still too terrible to deal with. To put it short and simple, it's wrecking my life. Something needs to be done to end it, and fast.

Probably the biggest reason why the second apology didn't help, is because it was too short, too shallow, and too casual. I remember this one movie that caused me a ton of pain and suffering, and it took seven apology letters for the pain and suffering to finally cease. I don't want to have to take that many letters for this dilemma to be settled, so here's what I want you to do:

I merged the first two letters I sent to you together. I want you to re-read the letter, and apologize the way it says so. This time, I need the apology to be deep, complex, and sincere. It must address all the problems I've had in this dilemma. If done correctly, hopefully it will end all the pain and suffering, I'll be able to leave Mortal Kombat behind, and finally get on with life.

This is the merged letter:

Dear Netherrealm Studios (especially Ed Boon),

I have become extremely disappointed in the direction the Mortal Kombat series is going, both inside and outside the game. I will express to you my two largest concerns:

1. Mortal Kombat (2011)'s storyline and its ending.
Sub-Zero is my favorite (and best) Mortal Kombat character. Although I did not agree upon the way you treated him in the merchandising for the game and transforming him into a cyborg, those are conditions that I could live with. The real insult came when you had Queen Sindel kill him (and just about every other Earthrealm warrior), and then you rubbed it in by having him and the others imprisoned in Hell and made Quan Chi's forced slave. Why would you let the Mortal Kombat storyline take such a mean and offensive turn? Do you hate good forces and cherish evil? Or is it because you people like to play favorites? I know Scorpion is Boon's all-time favorite character, and I respect that. What I DON'T respect is that you people abuse your privilege of having favorites and force other people to like them by killing off their favorite characters. That's not right, and you know it.

2. The MK Fanbase.
If I were to sum up the way the Mortal Kombat fanbase has treated me, it would be "COMMUNISM". I want to like the Mortal Kombat series my own way (only pay attention to the original three games as the canonical storyline, and disregard every other game as spin-offs and alternate storylines). They will not let me like the series that way. They said that I have to like the series THEIR way, otherwise I'm not a Mortal Kombat fan period. They even ordered me to stop loving classic games period and only play new games. I will never obey that order, because I grew up with all the classic games, and they don't deserve to call themselves gamers if they act like that. Why do you let yourselves be pushed around by such evil people like this?

These two factors have pushed me to the point where I hate Mortal Kombat now. I have sold and discarded every Mortal Kombat game and every piece of Mortal Kombat merchandise I have ever owned in my life. And I am never, I repeat, never, playing another Mortal Kombat game of my own free will ever again.

I want an apology and compensation, for the cruel way you treated Sub-Zero and the bad direction you took the series, and for the so-called Mortal Kombat fanbase and their evil communist actions. Then, to close the gate forever, I want you to UN-declare me a Mortal Kombat fan. If you can apologize and compensate for these two factors and terminate my connections with the series, I will finally be at peace, and be able to leave my troubles behind.

Sincerely,
SpiDoL

Response #1:
wrote

Dear SpiDoL,

We are discouraged to know you are still experiencing trouble. We are in the business of entertaining not causing extreme pain as you have stated. We did not mean to appear callous in our last response. We would like to apologize for the cruel way we took care of Sub-Zero. Also we understand how people can be cruel as well so we would also like to extend our deepest apology for the obnoxious behavior and statements from the fan-base. We feel very bad that you have sold all your Mortal Kombat games, and hope that this apology will ease your pain and give you peace.

Sincerely,
Ed Boon, Netherrealm Studios

Email #2:
Dear Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Netherrealm Studios,

I am the same SpiDoL who wrote to you a year and a half ago about Mortal Kombat 2011, how it deeply offended me and left me with horrible bad memories, and how it drove me to the point where I now hate the series and am never playing it again.

Even after that long time, and four apologies, I'm still suffering over everything that happened with that game. Part of the reason is that all your responses were too short, too shallow, and too casual. Even the letter from Ed Boon himself was like that.

Now though, I have a new request, which I should have done from the beginning. This technique should vastly help in getting rid of the evil memories your game caused me:

In the past, I've wrote to companies who made offensive movies and/or TV shows and asked them for apologies not from them, but from the specific character(s) in the show that caused all the offensiveness. The character would apologize, and I would feel much more satisfied. Now I want to do that with some characters from Mortal Kombat, specifically the three characters who were the meanest to my favorite character, Sub-Zero, and who killed him and doomed him to the horrible fate that he suffers now.

Offensive character #1: Queen Sindel
A character who was never offensive until now, you turned her into a horrible and offensive monster who makes it a federal crime just to be a good person.

Offensive character #2: Quan Chi
Another character you turned into a total jerk, he made the Sindel situation ten times worse by turning Sub-Zero into an evil person against his will.

and the character I absolutely hate the most...

Offensive character #3: Raiden
The so-called "protector" of Earth, in my eyes is a selfish goon who just sat back with milk and cookies as Sub-Zero got tortured and killed.

I know you people already apologized for all the pain and suffering the game has caused me, and I appreciate your sympathy, but these three are the ones who wrecked all of it for me, and they're the ones I really need the apology from. Have each of them apologize to me for their evil actions against Sub-Zero, and hopefully this will end the pain.

Keep in mind that this will not change the fact that I hate Mortal Kombat. I'm still never playing it again, it's not worth it to me because of all the pain and suffering the new game caused me.

Sincerely,

SpiDoL

Response #2:
from:
Dear SpiDoL,

We here at Interactive Entertainment and Netherrealm Studios, appreciate your concerns about our entertainment games. We apologize again that this has been such a long going, ordeal with you. The characters that you speak of in your letters are really very "good" in nature, but as in real life can make some very bad choices. So we are honoring your request and hope this will end your suffering.

Dear SpiDoL I apologize that my character has offended you and hope that you will not see me this way.
Queen Sinde

SpiDoL, I apologize for turning Sub-Zero into an evil person, sometimes misery loves company but since this has caused such turmoil in your life I again am deeply sorry.
Quan Chi

SpiDoL, I would also like to extend my apologies for my role in your distress. I didn't take to heart how watching Sub-Zero get killed could affect you the way it has, Please accept my apology and truly hopes this will help ease your pain.
Raiden

Sincerely,
Staff of Interactive Entertainment and Netherrealm Studios

Email #3:
Dear Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Netherrealm Studios, and Ed Boon,

I am the SpiDoL who wrote to you five times about the 2011 Mortal Kombat game and all the trouble it caused me. I am very pleased to inform you that after the fifth apology you sent me (which was one of the best apology letters I've ever received), all the pain and suffering I had to deal with finally went away. As a matter of fact, because you were so helpful during this rough time, and since I've always loved the classic Mortal Kombat series and was a huge fan until the 2011 game, I've finally decided to renounce all my hatred toward you people, and prepare to become a classic Mortal Kombat fan once again!

This time, I'm doing things my way, and I'm following my own road. Mortal Kombat II will become my favorite game of all time once again, along with Sub-Zero as my favorite (and best) character, and I'm gonna do whatever I can to rebuild my once glorious Mortal Kombat collection. However, I'm also gonna rewrite the story in my mind. From my point of view, the original story ended after Mortal Kombat 4, and every game after that is a spin-off or non-canon to the original story, which I'll be able to back up because of inconsistencies with the storyline in those games (especially the 2011 game, which I'm not taking seriously anymore and will never consider part of the original series).

Also, I'm not going back to any of those Mortal Kombat fan sites or forums, because I still hate the fanbase for cruelly forcing me to abandon the series, and I'm never supporting or speaking highly of them ever again. They have no right whatsoever to tell me what I can and cannot do regarding the series.

So now, I'd like to thank you for helping me to get rid of all my problems regarding Mortal Kombat. It'll take a long time to get back all the Mortal Kombat stuff that I lost, but it'll definitely be worth it in the end. Thanks again, and peace be with you!

Sincerely,
SpiDoL

The only thing I edited in these letters, is that I replaced my real name with SpiDoL, for reasons of privacy.

Now, after reading all that, I need to know: Am I justified in keeping Sub-Zero my Favorite MK Character? Or should I stay with Scorpion and not have to deal with the pain?

I'm still not sure if you're not deliberately trying to troll here. Because it's either that:

A) You legitimately suffer from emotional distress to the point where you feel compelled to contact WB/NRS and voice your concerns to them AND they actually wrote you back (I'm sure they get THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of emails). Again if this is a sincere / genuine post then I would suggest that you pursue mental health / counseling support as this (if you're to be believed), is not healthy adjusted behavior. That's not a comment made out of judgment either but one of concern.

B) You are just trolling for funzies.

You've been judging the fanbase of Mortal Kombat based on three mediocre sites? That's ridiculous.

I'm a bit weirded out that this game means THAT much to you. I mean, granted that this series has been in my entire life, seeing how I've been playing it since I was literally one years old but... it's a game.

This has to be somewhat pathetic. First off, I don't think you understood that this reboot is different. Things aren't going to play out so peachy like they've always been the last twenty years. It's a different take, hence why Raiden clearly said "To prevent Armageddon, things must be changed." And they did, unfortunately, those changes cost him a huge load of Earthrealm warriors. And also by killing Liu Kang in the process, thus leaving us with two potential different heroes for the next game. They didn't create these characters for nothing, they certainly DID have a purpose the series, and as of right now, they still do. They serve as the warriors for the Netherrealm. Which is a different twist no one saw coming... that is if they didn't get spoiled during pre-production.

This is like the first time they're letting evil win, the last time they did that was during the Deadly Alliance-Deception story. I mean, they're not killing these characters off for good, since when does anyone stay dead in this series?

Since you're basing the fanbase off of three websites, I find that really unfair. And to sit here and read that they're not letting you think the way you want to think, why are you letting a bunch of strangers telling you what you have to do? I don't see eye to eye with a bunch of people and their opinions, like how most people here say that Netherrealm Studios is filled with a bunch of lazy slackers. I don't agree with that, nor will I ever. They can sit here and get in my face all they want to change my mind, but they're hiding behind a monitor, their words cannot affect me as much as they want them to. So why are you letting a bunch of people behind computer monitors tell you the way to think?

If you're going to let people control what you want to like in a video game, you might as well let them control your life then. And from the looks of it, they may have started already.

I really don't think Boon, or if it really is him, should apologize for the actions of people on the sites you go on. If I were to call you a "stupid mother fucker" should he be responsible to apologize for my actions? I think not. He's not responsible for the actions of other people. It's their fault, not his. He shouldn't HAVE to clean up their messes, and I think that's poor on your shoulders to even sit here and say "hey, these sites are being mean to me, make them stop."

Because this is really how you look like, no offense.

It takes you four emails to demand them something that I really don't think they're gonna do? I mean, if this is what it takes to get them to do something for a fan, then shit, I've been missing out.

Also, I think you should really stop being emotionally attached to the things you view, as a suggestion. The way you're saying that you've been writing messages to companies demanding that they apologize to you is something I see really... horrible. On your end to be exact. As of right now, you're the only fan I've met that is taking this way to a personal degree to a point where it's affecting your life. From what it appears, I don't know if you really are being affected or this is just one huge troll, in which I will say, if it is trolling, then jesus christ. But if this is serious, honestly, I'd asked you to just stop being so attached to these things.

You're demanding an apology to the creator of Mortal Kombat, not the writer. Boon is not responsible for "being mean" to your favorite character and mine. It's a game, a scene in the game that was way too short for what it should have been. At least be thankful that he only got a blast to the face and not some long, drawn-out torture scene.

1: Sindel was under the effects of mind control, like how she was when she debuted. Nothing has changed except she never turned good at the end. So really, there was nothing wrong with this character.

2. His soul headed into the Netherrealm as did all the others that died. He's technically a necromancer, as well as a sorcerer. He WOULD be the one that would control the dead.

3. Raiden wasn't sitting on his ass watching everyone die, he was trying to talk to the Elder Gods in trying to figure out as to why Kahn isn't being punished for his crimes.

Did you even BOTHER playing the damn game or are you too selfish to realize the importance of other characters besides your beloved Sub-Zero? Because I'm starting to think you basically ignored everything and jut googly-eyed Sub-Zero.

So, let me get this straight, you're not going to play Mortal Kombat again, but yet you want, from how I read it, three fictional, non-living characters make an apology to you because they were "mean" to Sub-Zero? Seriously? Is this really a serious thread or is this nothing but a fucking joke?

This is a joke obviously... the people at Netherrealm Studios never wrote that. Or if they did, I really hoped they were laughing their asses off and not meaning a single word they wrote. To make a gaming company do this to a fan is just retarded. Really, retarded. And I don't use that word that much either.

Unfortunately for you, they did, and I find that laughable that you allowed yourself to be a victim of cyber bullying over a video game. You allowed a bunch of strangers make you do something, physically. To dislike a game series. That utterly ridiculous and I find it quite laughable that you let them get to you like that. If a site is that horrible to you, you leave. That's basically it.

I think you're either an overly obsessed fan who should really look back at all of this and see why some people might find this a joke, or a troll.

If you're the obsessed fan, I suggest that you probably stop being so overly attached to something like this. I know that there are obsessed fans out there, I've seen it and somewhat almost experienced it as well. However, the way you wrote these letters, demanding people to do you justice, I find that insulting for a Mortal Kombat fan. Actually no, insulting as a fan in general. You're demanding people cave into YOUR needs which I find stupid. I didn't like some things in 2011, but you don't see me spamming their inbox with emails, demanding that they recognize my problems and get an apology out of them. They make the games for the fans, yes, but to one fan in general, to meet the needs that they want and they want alone... that's ridiculous. You're not a fan, you're just some crazy nut who wants nothing but the best of their favorite character, and if anything were to go wrong with that character, god forbid in your case, you'll act like a whiny little brat and demand, demand, demand until they meet your needs. Not too many people like the Cyborg change, but I have yet to see anyone on any of the sites to come out and say that they wrote emails to the company demanding that they change the character.

There's disliking a change, and then there's what you did.

If you're a troll, I must applaud you. Granted that this site has one annoying nutcase, at least you're not spamming up a storm, posting fashion crap to a bunch of people that could care less, and not messaging me a bunch of useless shit. (Which may I add, he's been doing it again) You'll be the only troll I'll ever actually applaud for because this is something that can go two ways and it's quite clever for a troll to do.

So, I guess I'll wait for whatever kind of response, not just from you, but from anyone and see where this thread goes.

Yeah, my fingers hurt.

Sincerely,
SpiDoL

Sincerely,

SpiDoL

You should relax, take a deep breath, go outside, take a stroll, get some fresh air, because too much exposure to web browsing is unhealthy. & finally, when you're about to go to sleep, take deep breathes again while slowly saying it's just a video game. keep saying that until you rest & you should feel better the next day wink

Mortal Kombat itself isn't an offensive piece of shit, you're just a whiny little brat who thinks he can demand the developers an apology for not only doing "mean" things to their favorite characters, but also the actions of the people on fan sties. And I'm not trying to be mean here, but this is absolutely ridiculous coming from a person who claims they're a "fan" of the series.

You're the kind of "fan" that I hate. A "fan" who thinks they can write so many letters to the company "demanding" they do things for them. You hate that they did something different to your favorite, guess what bud, you're not the only person who likes Sub-Zero. I'm sure people on the other fansites may have said the same thing to you, because seeing how you're so "offended" for people saying that you have an unhealthy obsession with the game, I'm going to assume these other fansites said the same thing to you as well.

I guess you're going to, once again, write to Netherrealm Studios complaining to them, once again, that people were "mean" to you and that you're done with the series for good. And I hope they respond, that is if they ever had responded, that they laugh at you and say "thank god." Good riddance.

Wow... Icebaby just went ham on this guy.

I still maintain that this guy (again if he's serious) might stand to benefit from some mental health support.

I really tried my hardest not to sound like a cunt when writing all of that, but I really find that aggravating. To demand that the creators apologize not only for "destroying" a favorite character, to apologize not only for the actions of other fans on the fansites, but to also demand that they apologize AS THEIR OWN CHARACTERS to you because they were "mean" to your favorite... That's just utterly ridiculous.

I get that there are times the creators do something to a particular character or part of the story that might not get a lot of love from the fans, game developers aren't always going to get everyone to like every single thing about their game. That's just impossible to accomplish, and if such a company did, congrats to them. But this entire game was a change from the past. They wanted to do something different, which they obviously did. Not everyone liked what they produced, not everyone disliked what they produced. But to sit here and read everything this guy demanded Netherrealm Studios do for him is downright insulting for a fan to do. I don't think this guy was ever a fan in the first place because you don't just demand that they do something just for you all because your character got "killed off." What's even funny is that I got the impression that he thinks this is a permanent kill when this series has slain characters in the past and they come back to life literally in the next game. I mean, look at Johnny Cage. They killed him off for two games (I'm referring to 3 and Ultimate 3), mainly because his live action actor did something stupid and his character in Mortal Kombat paid the price... Also with Raiden but I believe there was something else with Carlos that happened. But Daniel went to promote "Bloodstorm" while as Johnny Cage, his character got killed off, but then he returned. It goes to show you, characters who die obviously don't stay dead for long.

I'm a die-hard fan of Sub-Zero, and there has been times where I have not liked what has happened to him, but you don't see me crying on fansites and begging the company to change the direction they're heading in with this guy. That's just not right.

And to also make people apologize for the actions of others, no company is responsible for the actions of their fans. They are not our parents. They don't come on here and scold us if we make someone leave a site or insult someone because we don't like them. They're supposed to say they're sorry for our actions when they have absolutely nothing to do with us when it comes to these kinds of site? Come on. This site is still a good community, even if it kinda doesn't show in this thread. (Or just me) But I've been on other sites and I see nothing wrong with the people on those sites. I don't see anyone rude. And when they are rude, they're rude for a bit and then everything goes back to being normal. It's like when guys get mad at each other, they're mad for like five minutes then they go back being buds. (Not like us women who can stay mad for eternity)

It just... pisses me off, you know? grin

Dude, if you are still there, you need to calm down and take a few deep breaths. Because this is a work of fiction and the creators tried something new, you are allowed to get disappointed but not angry. Sub-zero is probably the most favorited character among all of them but just remember: every character is a favorite to someone (even Hsu Hao and Mokap). And with this being a game where death is quite often, some fans will get upset. But at the same time death is almost irrelevant (I think Cage's deaths were retconned out for MK:DA).

So there is a chance Sub-zero will come back alive. I mean, most of the good guys died, but they most probably won't stay evil.

But important: calm down, deep breaths, "It's just a game"

PS: I think Ice-baby scared him off

If this guy was seriously that upset over the storyline of a video game then "deep breaths" is merely a drop in the bucket. Dude has some significant mental health issues that weren't / aren't being addressed.

RE: Are you a good community?

Well, I guess this thread already answered his question about whether or not we are a good community.

The answer is no.

We are not good. We are brutally honest. We don't treat eachother with respect, if respect isn't earned. We are a harsh and vengeful group of people who don't forget the single "bad" post of someone and makes that person's time here miserable for the duration of his stay.

If you are an outsider who contributes nothing of value on here, you will recieve crap. As is the proof above.

Also, if you have a spine made of jello and skin as thin as paper, then this isn't the place for you. Because normal friendly behaviour and manners aren't typical here. There are a few who honour themselves in trying to be friendly and polite, but they are very few and they are not considered highly here.

Though you might not read this, as you have already said your goodbyes, I am still going to put in my two cents. You seem like a VERY emotional person. If a game and a movie is enough to ruin your life, then there are indeed some issues that needs to be adressed. Some mental issues that only a professional would be able to help you with, because it is indeed not normal for someone to be so affected by something like that.

Hopefully you will seek the help you need and will come out of it positiviely.

And this is the internet, this could just as well have been a troll thread, hence some of the responses on here. It is understandable for people to take these things with a grain of salt and be distrustful, because it happens on a daily basis.

Either way, good luck with your endeavours.

Just wanna say a few more things (even though SpiDol is probably gone):

1. The story isn't over. Yes the good guys were sent to hell after being one-hit KO'd by Sindel and are now Quan Chi's slaves (even though Sub-zero took on Goro and Kintaro at the same time). But did you think the story is done? I don't think that. I wanna see how they are freed. Isn't that how stories go? Heroes aren't always on top. There is usually a moment where they go down (but in this case, they are way way WAY down)

Heck look at Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance to Armageddon. Cage, Sonya, Jax, Kung Lao, and Kitana all died and turned into undead slaves to Onaga but by the end of Deception they were freed. Did this guy think nothing similar was going to happen?

2. Really? He wanted Quan Chi, a bad guy an evil villain, a guy who uses the remains of other people for fancy tricks, to apologize? Asking, no, DEMANDING Quan Chi to apologize for doing what he does naturally is like demanding Scorpion be the ice guy.

3. Do not take this as an insult (if you are still out there): You need help. You have been fixating your happiness on a fictional character that you have no control over. (tip: don't watch the Game of Thrones) I am not sure what to call it. But if it helps I have Asperger's syndrome. Why I put this online is reasons unknown to me.

For being completely honest that demanding a company to cater your needs in a way where it's a laughing joke? Good, I'm glad I did. But it's funny to read more and more comments AFTER this guy clearly hasn't come back that you all think he has some mental issue for taking a game this seriously. So it's not that hard to see this guy has a noticeable problem. But that was what I was not trying to address.

The whole point of what I was trying to say wasn't supposed to come off as being mean, but being brutally honest to make him realize he's a spoiled brat that's demanding a joke load of crap to come from the developers of this series. He's not coming back, and I'm glad he isn't if he thinks being honest is being rude. To make a company portray their own characters to form an apology because they were rude to your favorite character? Come on. I took his post two ways, either he's a marvelous troll or he really believes this game is life itself. Either way, he hasn't been around here, and if it's because common sense kicked him in the face and made him realize this is nothing but such silly problems that could easily be dealt with in a much different way, then good. I'm glad I chased him away. Hopefully, he finds help, because if a game has this much grasp on you, then it's definitely needed.
