Funny, When my EA Skate disc scratched... The backgrounds disappeared exactly like in MK's standard mode for Fatalities. Square floor, Black patches where objects used to be.

This is a defect, Used as an effect... And nobody cares. FUCKING HILARIOUS!

This thread gets buried under threads regarding, Movesets for Kenshi ( Who is already finished )

In another site, This topic is being buried by someone requesting a Power Rangers alt for Johnny Cage.

The MK community is really pissing me off lately. And I can definitely see why NRS suggested another MK site.

Sad.

Anyways, Enjoy your Smoke and Kitana hair threads.

" OMG look at Kitana's hair " The whole fucking background GLITCHES out, And your worried about Kitana's hair?

Pathetic.

Why is the code called tournament mode anyway? I like the result but I do not understand why tournament mode means backgrounds present.

It's called Tournament because of the disabling of the first hit super bar meter reward. Making it more fair. Also disabling most foreground objects in order for them not to get in the way.

The Finish Him/Her effect, Just a bonus. Really wish someone would make some HD video examples.

I hear you on the 1st hit = super meter thing. But what foreground objects get in the way? Never noticed a handicap with foreground objects before.

Didn't really care one way or another to me it's not a big deal. But too many people are getting angry about a valid complaint for having the option. Then both parties can have it either way, turn everything off if you get distracted easily and for some reason that takes away from the fatality... After this post and going and comparing it i completely agree that it should be an option. Being able to see the entire stage when your offing your opponent just helps engross you in the scene and make you feel like your more a part of the action, you just had a bloody fight at said location and now you can finish it then and there, rather than feeling like your fading into some other place as everything but you and the opponent darkens out of existence... def love tournament mode now, and i do hope NRS makes an update with this fatality dimming an option. good post kitana.

Thanks SwallowKnife, Glad to see more people enjoying this feature. Was playing with a friend that stopped by last night, ( I destroyed her ) Played 2 player versus in Tourney Mode for at least an hour, I'm addicted to detail. Did the Smoked Out Fatality in front of the burning helicopter on the night version of the rooftop. All the firelight surrounded us, Making an entirely different color tone to the characters, It looked like a scene out of the Story Mode. After that, The helicopter's blades remained rotating above Smoke's winning pose, Fading in and out of the fires light sourcing, It looked sweet.

Also caught her standing right on the trap door in the night time version of the Courtyard, All that green lighting coming up from underneath remained. When I split her abdomen open, You could clearly see the light sourcing reflecting on her blood and guts as they spilled onto the floor. It was beautiful.

Then when she left, I tried out some online to see if it was running any smoother ( Not yet ). I swear, The easiest Kombat Kode ever ( All 1's ). And out of the 10 or so matches I played online, Not one fucker could have enough common sense to match my 3 MK's. And if they did even match me by accident, They would still proceed to mash the buttons in the Kode screen. Errrr.

Definitely with you on this one Kitana.

I didn't have a chance to use the code, cause I didn't play online and have only 1 controller, but your sample pics looks awesome.

I agree that all finishers are getting old pretty quick and with this feature they looks different every single time.

So my only 2 questions are:
-> how to let NRS know about that?
-> how to make them care? (I mean there are probably hundreds or more complains/requests out there)

Anyways you got my support grin

How to make NRS care, To let them hear the positive opinions on this matter. ( So please refrain from negativity in this thread ) Anyone can simply copy, Paste, And Tweet the following.....

As far as them getting thousands of other requests. This is probably the simplest and most reasonable one. wink

Also urge all who have just seen these pictures, Which are crap quality... To please try this out yourself in a 2 player VS. All you need is another controller, Or a friend and the Kode MK MK MK- MK MK MK.

It's a must see on certain levels. Check it out before sharing your thoughts.

I don't think it's fair to ask people to refrain from making negative comments; naturally some people aren't going to agree with you so they should be allowed to voice their opinion as well.
You're going to have to get a LOT of tweets to get this included, because the majority of MK players probably don't even bother with the Kombat Kodes, especially the casual players. So to NRS it's not a big deal, in their eyes the "hardcore" fans can enable it (albeit in a frustrating manner) and it's not any detriment to the casual players.

Still, good luck with it! I have yet to try this out myself, going to have a go today I think!

Here you go KITANA, HD video: Normal vs. Tournament mode fatalities

I was curious so I went ahead and recorded them. Tourney mode definitely looks better, but the reason they didn't use it by default is evident in this video during Kitana's fatality - the game slows down like hell.

You're right, Everyones entitled to their opinion. And....
I am a hardcore fan, And still cannot enable this feature without another persons assistance. And in ladders, It's simply not an option.

Thanks so much for the vid Ion, Is that on PS3?
Doesn't slowdown like that on my XBOX, Or not that I noticed. Too busy checking out all the other cool details.

However, After seeing the timing issue... Could see why it couldn't be a default option for online because two different people might have two different settings, And different timing.

BUT...... No reason whatsoever to not have it be a simple ladder option.

I love the TM Fatalities, They look different every time. And they might slow a little, But I'd rather that than a square floor with disappearing objects, Light sourcing and particle effects.

Options never hurt anyone. wink

I hit Boon and Hector up with one of those earlier, it does look alot better without the background. Edit: But I want a toggle for foreground objects too. So that way I don't end up losing my foreground objects when I use the option.

Yeah I'm on PS3, but the slowdown seems to depend on the level, as the Armory had only a tiny bit whereas Goro's Lair turned into molasses.

Making an XBOX version video when my friend with a cap card rents the game. Been Tweeting back and forth with Boon, And have a bunch of people on Twitter backing this up. I think we're getting somewhere. wink

Or at least we can hope. sad

EDIT: 20 min later.

Just tested same Fatality, Same level, Same spot... And dozens more. No slowdown whatsoever on XBOX......?

Came to think of it, Anyone who ever mentioned slowdown has been on PS3. And I thought they were lying, Wow.

XBOX video in the works....

Thanks so much for the Video Ions. Love the TM look, Makes the Fatalities slightly different every time. For me it even adds new gameplay. Because as I'm playing, I'm thinking of how to set up my opponent so I can kill them in front of Skarlet.... For example. Love the background on the Sindel. You gotta see Liu Kangs dragon in The Armory, Disgusting!

How dare you not like the black backgrounds. Be careful, You might get skulled.

The further away objects are, The less they appear. The closer they are, The more illuminated they stay.

Check out liu Kang's dragon in the armory, Looks sick. And Babalities don't darken at all.

Perfect way to get a cute baby pic of your favorite character.

I can't believe I missed this thread!

I was sure that I had already posted my opinion, but, after checking I just realized that I didn't post anything at all.

Anyway: Excellent thread KITANA!

I think this, as unimportant as it might seem to some people, is a perfectly valid request and quite a reasonable one that truly makes a difference.

The pictures speak for themselves. The whole "super black/empty backgrounds" effect during the Fatalities takes away some of the experience when you compare the pictures that show the background while the Fatality is being performed.

I think an ON/OFF option should be activated, indeed. The game's fatalities looks sooo much better with visible backgrounds.

The original poster has made some perfectly valid and reasonable observations and I hope that a patch which would fix/help with this situation is included in the future (or the next game).

Once again: great thread!

Thank you queve. You've got that artist eye, Thought you'd like this idea.
Don't know if you saw the latest Video? Had a friend help me capture it Online. Then I put the clips together for him to upload.

Check out the double Fatality at the end, Sweet. smile

OMG!!!!

I actually didn't see that video and oh my goodness the game looks so much richer like that.

Thank you so much for providing this. Everything looks so much better like this.

I just realized how bad and ugly it looks with the black backgrounds. What a shame that they did that.

I will state this outright. I feel this is a little detail, one that ultimately doesn't HAVE to be fixed, but one where if they did it would make a highly improved aesthetic difference.

One of the things that makes Fatalities so memorable in the past was atmosphere. When the screen darkened, it signaled by the success of pulling the move off and foreshadowed the grisly fate to come.

For some odd reason, they decided an inky black void would be their fatality screen of choice and stuck with that for awhile.

However, the atmosphere is lost. And the stages themselves, especially in this game, are brimming full of life and personality that heavily alters the experience of even the same Fatality performed more than once.

For example, performing a Babality is supposed to be humiliating. But in the inky void of black, with the baby crying in shame, there's nobody really there to "enjoy" the triumph. Now, do the Courtyard, do a Babality, and the monks in attendance happily applaud your victory and cheer on your humiliation of your opponent.

Take the Netherrealm. Do a Fatality, and you get the exact same inky black void as the rest. With the backgrounds visible, you see the tortured souls behind you, the pits of hell itself, giving the grisly death of your opponent a morbid sort of irony as you kill them in hell while unwilling spectators view, unable to move or even look away. It absolutely heightens the experience and instills unparalleled atmosphere.

This goes on and on. The levels themselves provide a context for any finisher and even provide immersion and interaction. Kahn's Arena has an entire audience of thousands cheering and booing, screaming for blood, and doing a fatality in full view of them is absolutely what that stage seems MEANT for.

I would very much like the option to have the stages visible during fatalities. I find the black empty space to be generic and it reduces every amazing fatality into the same background stage, a canned atmosphere without a hint of character, over and over, which is especially tiresome as I march my way towards Master of All Characters and perform 100 fatalities and finishers per character.

I'm glad the option is THERE, mind you, but having it there only makes me want it to be the STANDARD and not a secret option I can only do with an opposing player that also alters the rules of the game. I just want to have the rich, vivid atmosphere of the beautifully designed levels complimenting the carnage I create. It's twisted and beautifully poetic to kill my opponent in the Wasteland and have their corpse become just another body in the field littered with bodies rather than the same empty climax repeated over and over.
