As I said in the thread about the concept art, my biggest problem with Vincent Proce's designs is that a complete start-over is a bad idea. I absolutely want an MK1 remake, but I want it to be an update, NOT a reboot.
It'd be a mistake to erase all the character details and evolution we've had over the past what, 17 years? In MK1, the characters were all just cliches and homages to other things. But now they stand out on their own as original creations with 3-dimensional personalities. Don't throw all that away and go back to the bare bones tropes.

If you retell MK1, do it according to the current canon with all the retcons that have been added, don't just start over.

- Use "Protector of Earthrealm" mentor-to-the-heroes Raiden with long white hair and Australian Kano, not "Gets bored of fighting mortals and invites other gods, then they destroy the Earth" Raiden or Japanese Kano.
- Have references to MK Mythologies and say that Scorpion was rezzed by Quan Chi/Shinnok, not by some random demon.
- Don't forget the fact that Liu trained with Bo' Rai Cho and learned the Dragon Kick from him, the move he's supposed to beat Shang with.
- Mention that Hsu Hao is the contact Sonya gets her tips from when hunting the Black Dragon. And Jax, Jarek, and pre-scars Kabal should have cameos in the part of the story that takes place before the fighters travel to the island.
- Give Kenshi a cameo or brief mention in Shang's backstory, since it was right before MK1 when he blinded him.
- Include Ermac as a hidden character. Maybe they could even make that old Gamepro april fools character "Nimbus Terrafaux" into a real character, since Midway has always loved bringing false rumors into the games.
Et cetera.

Going back and remaking older games should mean an opportunity to capitalize on all the richness that was added later. Do what Shaolin Monks was supposed to do if they hadn't botched it.
So that's my idea. A complete restart would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The best plan would be to one-by-one redo MK1 thru 4, but story-wise, make it so everything lines up seamlessly with Deadly Alliance and Deception. Make things consistent.

If they were to reimagine it id hope theyd start from the beginning or atleast thats the vibe i get from the artwork. The funny thing about MK is the series has sooo much room for improvement.

The arenas could defenitly be improved. Add arena such as the boat that takes the fighters to the island as different places on the island and a throne room for Shang Tsung. The arenas need to be new and innovative and show how barbaric the MK tournament was.

I like the fighters as they are itd be kinda dumb to change them although I'am open to almost any change that comes to MK. I don't feel they need to alter the fighters. I believe they need to just improve each fighter individually and come out with kick ass concepts and make each fighter unique. Make people want to play as each character for how bad ass their story is as well as their look.

When I think of MK, I think of a tournament. None of those games really had a tournament style approach to it. I think for fun add a tournament bracket that you can play. Of course keep the classic arcade but a tournament feature i believe is necessary to effectively make a new MK.

Other than that I hope the MK story can be cleared up with cinematics or better story modes.

To RazorsEdge701: I agree that a re-boot does kinda make the past games seem pointless and erases the progress already made. But I also believe that when coming up with a story(especially one as complex as MK's) its good to have "what if" scenarios to show how other routes could go. While not actually changing the canon storyline. And I also think an updated remake of the first game would be cool.
But this is just for fun so you can say come up with anything you want and it won't actually change the story.

I have nothing against what-ifs in theory...but here's the problem.

The team can only make one game every two years or so, and if they ever do decide to remake MK1, they're not going to do it twice, one that follows canon and one that goes nuts.

So it's gotta be one or the other. And I choose the canon because it's perfect the way it is.

Agreed. If they were going to remake the first game. I would want them to make it an updated remake and not a reboot. But if they were ,say ,coming out with a new comic or something i would like them to explore "what if" scenarios a bit. I just want to hear what people would do to the stories and characters if they were to write it.
