I got permission to do this. A lot of users, including myself, have been seeing a heck of a lot of complaining on this forum. So, instead of making a lot of individual rants, let's just keep one all bundled up in this one little thread.

So, whatever you have a complaint about, whether it's about the characters, the levels, the way we're receiving information, you name it... let's just keep it all in here?

things ive noticed about this new mk game. first the blood does not stand out like in the older games and its not much of it either. it needs to be lighten a bit. you can barley see it......

the punches do not sound like they hurt like in the older games. the are good they just dont have that SMASH sound that mk4 and mk3 had.

the gameplay looks rather slow and clunky. again needs to be more fast paced like mk4 and smooth like mk3. their signature combos from mk3 would be great if they could do them without dial up combos.

the stances are terrible. sektor,nightwolf,cyrax is the only ones they nailed. eveyone else needs to be given their old stances back.

PLEASE get rid of the volley ball jump punch in the air. its TERRIBLE. bring back the old jump punches and kicks. all of the jump kicks and sweeps also look the same. please do them differently. in ss4 every fighter has a diff jump kick, it can be done.

not really a big fan of the xray moves but they are decent. seems like they load up to quickly. should take time like in ss4.

the fatalities are not great this time around.scorpion keeps using his sword. subzero torso rip is an old idea that shouldnt have made the cut. the spine rip is just lifeless, with no real struggle. to many decapatations.

reptile looks so bad. first his color scheme is awful. all the green. lol but his face is the worst. he looks like a bird. i really hope they have the human alternate. his costume is bland too.

*** Intended as a SATIRE ONLY, with respect for the characters ***

ex-Midway team: Hey guys, how the heck are we going to make another MK game?? You can't top Armageddon. People will always want to play as 50+ characters! That and John Tobias is MIA. Boy, we really pissed him off with the pay cuts back in the 90s. MK is gridlocked without John.

New WB guys: Yeah, your story sucked since MK4.

Ex-Midway team: Pfft, whatever.

New WB guys: Hey I know!! JJ Abrams did this cool thing with STAR TREK where they went back in time to justify a new chain of events!! We should totally rip that off. Plus, Capcom is making a KILLING from their HD Remix, let's do one of our own before people lose interest.

Ex-Midway team: You guys are GENIUSES!! We SO should remix Armageddon for 360.

New WB guys: We were thinking something simple, like UMK3.

Ex-Midway team: AWWW!! But how about BARAKA, JOHNNY CAGE, and all those other cool doods??

New WB guys: You're right, you're right. More like an MK Trilogy HD Remix. But more like the N64 version. We'd shoot for PSX, but we know you guys are really slow developers and can't pull that off before the Capcom craze dies down.

Ex-Midway team: *WELL then*, who should we cut?

New WB guys: Well we were thinking you could go without the bosses. They're always overpowered. Plus, everyone has wood for Ermac, Rain, and Noob Saibot. Sheeva and Stryker are pretty lame, and Liu Kang has kind of died a couple of times already.

Ex-Midway team: You do NOT talk about Liu Kang that way! And Sheeva and Stryker weren't lame - people played them the most in MK3! And we can't cut the bosses because Ed LOVES Motaro. And if you cut Motaro, you have to cut all the bosses to be fair. Rain and Ermac were more like *imaginary* characters, so we should cut them. We can't use Noob Saibot because John might sue. He wasn't too happy with the 90's pay cuts either.

New WB guys: People only played as Sheeva and Stryker because they were super powerful. Everything else about them was lame. Hey you guys should make those *lesser* ninjas DLC!!!

Ex-Midway team: What's "DLC"?

New WB guys: ...

New WB guys: It's that thing that Activision does where they finish the game, subtract a part of it, and sell that part later for 15 bucks!!!

Ex-Midway team: Sounds good to me. Except we still can't use Noob Saibot. If we do, we have to find some creative way to mask his last name. We already tried the Noob-Smoke thing, and it didn't work too well. And "Noob" just sounds goofy. (Aside) Maybe we should call John.

New WB guys: It's cool. We'll just pay him $5000. Remember ... D-L-Ccccc ... mmmm. So how much time will you need?

New WB guys: So how much time will you need?

Ex-Midway team: I think 3 years sounds reasonable.

New WB guys: Ummm, we were thinking more like early 2011.

Ex-Midway team: Oh, well most of the guys still code in C+ and HTML and well, I - - -

New WB guys: LOOK, guys, we have a sh*t ton of money. We just hired these sick programmers for you who can re-work the Unreal 3 Engine for MK9. It will feel as fast as UMK3, have physics like TRIALS HD, and effects out the wazoo. We're also changing your name to 'Netherrealm Studios' because it sounds cooler and reminds people of Scorpion.

Netherrealm: Hey, for the money you're paying us, you can call us whatever you want. Let's get started!!

(MONTHS LATER, Q4 2010)

WB: Soooo guys, how's it comin? We all ready for that *early holiday release*?

Ed: Well about that. We only have 10 characters and 8 arenas done.

WB: Crap. (Calls Hector) "Hey Hector - we REALLY need you to play this up on the street. Yeah, yeah, we know Hector, you're nervous about how you look on stage. Yes Hector, the chin strap is still in style. No Hector, they don't expect you to speak Spanish at EGS. Goodbye Hector." (hangs up)

WB: Ed I want a plan on my desk by TOMORROW. (EXITS)

Ed: GUYS!?! What are we going to do now?? Crap, I knew we should have rendered STRYKER before Noob-Smoke. WAIT - I KNOW - I'll be vague with the press and tell them "Twenty-some-odd" characters. Then we won't be bound to 26. We can release the other six as DLC if the game doesn't suck. Great idea guys!

Guys: ...

Guys: Ed, we don't even have all the stages done yet, and the Dead pool stage fatality skeleton render isn't done either.

Ed: Well that happened in Deception, and we just threw an awkward standing skeleton in there. Do that. And don't worry about the Bank, Scorpion's Lair, the Shrine, the Armory, the Courtyard, Goro's Lair, the Graveyard, the Portal, the Pit 1, the Pit 3, the Soul Chamber, or the Tomb. They can all be DLC or whatever. And guys - PLEASE - no more stage fatality levels. We don't have time for the animations. But we HAVE to get Yin Yang Island in there somehow. I LOVE Yin Yang Island. And Motaro.

Guys: Boy the fans are gonna be pissed. We got in EVERY special move but ran out of time for the Ermac renders and half the arenas. Oh crap, did you guys get any more FATALITIES done?

Ed: Guys, we don't have time to burn people up and cover them in acid. Just use that cool dismemberment engine you guys made. If we run out of ideas, we'll just have someone bust out their weapon and cut their opponent's head off.

Guys: Maybe we should cruise the forums and look for some fan ideas.

Ed: NO way. I know what's best for Mortal Kombat. I CREATED Mortal Kombat! (phone rings) "Hey Hector, what's up?"

Hector (on phone): You do NOT talk about our fans that way Ed. I told them we listened to them at E3, and I'll be darned if you turn me into a liar.

Ed: Hector, buddy, listen - I'd rather do the comb-over any day before I shave my head. It's just ... classier. 'Nuff said. (hangs up)

I can not agree with having different jump kicks and sweeps. It wasn't a problem in the old games, it won't be a problem now. And btw, the jump kicks in Street Fighter IV is unbalanced. There's a reason why Ken's and Ryu's do nothing but Jump Kick, because it defeats almost everybody elses that attempts theirs. Not to mention it stops some people's attacks in general.

Um...SFIV Ultra build up is faster.
You can even Focus people's attacks to build it up quicker.
The Ultra bar doesn't even have to be full completely, you can use it halfway, the downside is that it doesn't do much damage compared to the full meter.

The X-Ray build is completely fine. Again, go to that link I just posted.

MY COMPLAINTS (list will constantly be changed and edit as the game progress in the future)

::Character Appearance::

Reptile's Face Model. Face guard looks like he has a beak side-view.


Sub-Zero's Face Guard (mask).
...Ain't it time to get original with his mask? I've seen that same design in like two games now, maybe more than that.

Cyrax character model.
-He seriously looks like Bumble Bee from the Transformers movies.
-Too much yellow on him that throws me off from the Cyrax characteristic appearance.


Johnny Cage "Johnny" Tattoo". Such an eyesore, it's as bad as having the tiger tattooed on his back in Deadly Alliance.


::Gameplay::

- Remove the air punch volleyball juggle shit. Or at least have it so they bounce one time.

- I'm sure the Team is working on it, but just a reminder. Fix the hitbox/collision. I saw kicks (mainly Nightwofl) being connected that look like the game was being played with online lag.

- Delete Cyrax's Hand Saw a.k.a. Shujinko's Fatality.


- "FATALITY" voice audio. Change it AGAIN please. Make it sound like someone would be proud to mimic it in it's tone.

i guess it is is faster, i was expecting mk3 or mk4 fast though. oh well...

i just want diff jump kicks to add personality to everyone. make everyone feel unique.

the ultra in ssf can build up fast by focus attack , but thats only if someone is spamming fireballs, which is probably a noob.

maybe they need to add levels of damage for the xray moves like ssf.
oh yeah i hope they dont go to far with the permanent damage thing. tao feng tried that and it failed babdly.

I don'tie the way Jax's voice is now. Also, when they do fatalities and they slice and kic I wish the guts and insides would come loose and splat when they hit the ground. I also think Reptile's costume could use some work.

When did they show they show the jumping punch that bounces the opponent?

At around 1:30 and 1:41 the classic jump punch is back.

I have to say that I hate the bouncing punch. It makes juggles to easy, and it makes air combat tedious when you and your opponents air punch hit each other at the same time. The jump kick in MK2 is balanced. Because it gives a little bit of air to do a small combo, and you have to be good at the game to do it.

First I fixed the video link. Sorry about that. Yah I deffinately saw the air puch bounce by Scorpion. This is dumb because it makes air combos too easy. Your wrong about MKvsDC. You would get two punches that bounced, and the third bounce punch would keep them grounded, and that three hit combo was only about 11 to 12 percent. Sectors bounce punches are legit though. He has to burn part of his meter just to do the teleport air bounce punch.

In MKvsDC the Y button would do the bouncing air punch, but x would do the one that just does a regular punch in the air and they don't bounce. Maybe that person was pressing the regular air punch button instead of the bouncing one. I really hope they just cut the bounce punch out of the game, and make that button do something else. That air punch makes combos longer and easier and people should work harder for juggle combos. And a good players highest combo not including x-ray should be 30% tops.

The Ultra bar doesn't even have to be full completely, you can use it halfway, the downside is that it doesn't do much damage compared to the full meter.





The X-Ray build is completely fine. Again, go to that link I just posted.






i guess it is is faster, i was expecting mk3 or mk4 fast though. oh well...



i just want diff jump kicks to add personality to everyone. make everyone feel unique.



the ultra in ssf can build up fast by focus attack , but thats only if someone is spamming fireballs, which is probably a noob.



maybe they need to add levels of damage for the xray moves like ssf.


oh yeah i hope they dont go to far with the permanent damage thing. tao feng tried that and it failed babdly.

I only played Mortal Kombat Gold which is basically MK4 for the Dreamcast. And yes, that game is fast. Fast as UMK3 if I dare say.

i dont know why but for some reason i went on trmk website and watched the scorpion combo video.......and the animation seems much smoother on their video. its like the framrate is fifty times better than you tube wierd. so the gameplay does not look as stiff as i thought it did!

Apart of me is kinda bummed to see it in 2D fighting ground. I guess I'm so used to the moving around in 3D, that it'll be a little weird at first.

ahhh pplease god never their be a 3d mk again. thats probabaly my all time overall rant for mk. no more 3d games. at least make a good 2d series that we can play over and over again like mk trilogy(mk1-mk3), before going back to 3d.
