I was in Prague on a school trip about a week ago, and (I believe) Czech was playing Switzerland. We were in a train station and the game was being projected on a wall and there were about 20 police officers standing around watching it.
This doesnt have anything to do with the finals but I just thought it was funny.
Anyway I haven't been paying attention to the IIHF since my beloved
Vancouver Canucks are sooo close to winning the Stanley Cup.

NBA is garbage.
I didn't see this thread. That goal scored by the kid from Finland yesterday was unfuckingbelievable. I'm watching Game 1 of the Tampa-Boston series right now.

I've gotta agree, that was just cold-blooded! I and my friends just laughed when we watched an interview of Mikael (aka Michael) Granlund (the goal maker), to his high-pitched voice. It's funny that he is still just a teenager (1992 yr.) and a first-timer in IIHF but already a frigging legend! Minnesota Wild has gotten a formidable player for its cast from Granlund.
Granlund Goal @ Friday the 13th
I'm going offline now to watch the bronze match soon. Results will be updated tomorrow. Finland would better win finally (been waiting since 1995)!

True about the NBA. The officials blow Lebron James, just garbage officiating against any team going against the Heat for ratings.
I saw the highlight of that Finland goal, and that was awesome.
Personally I want to see the Stanley Cup come down to Boston and San Jose, but I think it's going to come down to Vancouver & Tampa.
Suomi voitti Ruottin ylivoimaisesti!!!
[Captain Mikko Koivu hoisting the championship trophy]
6–1!
Game progression: The final game began with an intense first round, neither one of the sides scoring nothing. As usual, Finland didn't score anything until Sweden's Pääjärvi (the only Swedish player with Finnish ancestry and Finnish name, BTW) scored their first goal. It happened in the second round, resulting in activating Finns to a more impulsive play style. Not long after, Finland scored its first goal, in the second round. Then the game passed to the final round, where Finns finally scored their five next goals in a row, by turns with various players resulting in a glorious and awaited victory.
History repeats itself. As in 1995, the only country to whom Finland lost was the Czech Republic (2–1) and the final opponent was our beloved rival, Sweden. In 1995, Finland won Sweden by 4–1, last night it was 6–1. Finland played against Russia twice resulting with 3–2 and 3–0 wins.
As for our nation itself, ice hockey being the biggest sport of Finland, up to 2.6 million Finns (over 50% of population) watched the legendary game (not to mention radio listeners, etc.) and after the victory the whole Finland celebrated in the night, avenues crowded with smitten Finn parades and corporations sending victory messages continuing to the beginning week.
The next year and the year after (2012 and 2013) the finalists Finland and Sweden will co-host the next ice hockey world championships by turn in their capitals Helsinki and Stockholm. Finland will defend its glory in the world championships of 2012. Until then, let's celebrate the victory!
