I understand and respect your opinions, but I'd like you to read this:

http://testyourmight.com/forum/showthread.php?8541-Some-perspective-to-the-Freddy-DLC-from-inside-a-game-industry-office&highlight;=CaliMaestro

(sorry for the lack of hyperlink - I have no idea how this site works)

It brings up some good reasons as to why NRS might have brought Freddy into MK. Lots of fans claiming NRS doesn't respect their fans/franchise and/or are just selling out. But you're missing the bigger picture.

Freddy was probably necessary.

Copying and pasting didn't work for me.

I'll say this though. If you're going to make a game, make the fudging game and be done with it. Don't make grandiose claims (the game will deal with MK 1-3/Trilogy story roster-wise) you don't intend to keep (Kratos? Freddy Fucking Krueger?) And stop with the double dipping DLC bullshit. The game is already $60 but then you're forced to pay more later down the road, sometimes for stuff that is already on the disc. Saying, "Well you don't have to buy it." is a bullshit response too, especially when they purposely pack something you do want like a skin, with something you don't like a character.

These guys seem to only be able to do one thing at a time. They can't focus on game play AND write a decent story. It's either one or the other. I mean doing a retcon is one of the laziest things you can do as a writer. The story and characters are already there, you just have to tweak some things. I say this because we could've had Cyber-Smoke, Khameleon, Chameleon, Tremor, Hornbuckle, and a couple of other characters who were legitimately from that era (MK 1-3) rumored or otherwise who really could've been worked and improved upon put into this game.

Mortal Kombat is going to live or die by the hardcore fans, not the casual fans. You piss them off enough and they'll turn on you and then what are you left with? Guest characters are a joke. They take little thought because most of the leg work has been done. I like Kratos....in God of War. As for Freddy...LOL, to each their own, but IMO he looks ridiculous. I've never been impressed by him. Not in the horror films and certainly not in MK of all places. At least, and this is using the barest of qualifications, Kratos was from a popular video games series. The same people who hated on Kratos are now on their knees in front of Freddy Kreuger...LOL.

So now if I want unmasked Sub-Zero, I have to pay for Krueger? If so, that's BS. I'd rather everything be broken up and priced accordingly and purchase it that way. If you like Krueger, I'm not hating on you, that's your choice. Like I said I think guest characters are a joke. You might as well do a full on crossover and try to save some face (MK vs Olympus or MK vs Horror Icons). He just doesn't fit for me. I actually laughed when I saw the vid. He reminds me of poor man's Baraka or Wolverine. His X-Ray sucks. He fatalities remind of Shinnok's from MK4. Boring.

Freddy wasn't "necessary." Maybe money was, which if they're in that much need of money to go the pandering route, then the series is in trouble anyway.

Whether you're okay with Freddy or not really just comes down to what you believe Mortal Kombat is in essence.

No, I haven't downloaded any compatibility packs yet. Thanks for letting me know though.

That still means I'll have to see Krueger though because of downloading the compatibility pack and I want my MK free of "Meat with a pair of claws." That's how I want 'my" MK. It's no more right or wrong than those who do want Krueger.

RAWR. Where are my claws? RAWR.

To bad it would've been nice if guest characters like Kratos and Freddy should never exist in MK.

The horror icons must die forever.

If that's the case, why didn't they just put him in the game in the first place? It bugs me how they waited for DLC giving us hopes of another MK character (sad that you have to hope a character from it's own franchise makes the game and doesn't) when they have had this planned for months.

Guest characters are stupid. I think all fans of the so-called pure MK can agree on that.

Drunken fat men who puke and fart as a fighting style? Way fucking stupider.
Half cyborg Mongolians with crazy hats? Way fucking stupider.
Carlos Pesina in a motion capture outfit? Badass.
Carlos Pesina in a motion capture outfit playable in an MK game. The fucking stupidest.

I hate how these days one can't hate anything without being a "hater"

I'm not a hater... I don't indiscriminately hate everything, everywhere, at every time. I don't just jump from forum to forum entering every topic I see hating the subject matter just for the sake of hating it, because I'm a "hater" and that's what haters do.

I just hate the things I hate.

It's this crazy human trait... where I like some things and I hate some things. I'm pretty sure we all have it.

Phrases like, "Let the haters hate" and "Haters gon' hate" are stupid...

I'm allowed to hate Freddy without being a damn "Hater"

...

I blame the rap community... (lolz?)

I couldn't agree any more. It really is sad that they knew this guy would be in for months, then had this grand reveal and massive build up only to introduce a character that doesn't belong to the franchise and won't impact the story in any way shape or form. Now if they announce that any more characters coming out, I have to cross my fingers and hope they're actual Mortal Kombat characters, and that's just sad. If people like him, whatever enjoy. He is just not wanted in my game and won't be purchased nor will any other guests. I've been a Mortal Kombat fan since 1992, and I want to preserve that integrity. I do have an interesting take on Kratos though since I have the PS3 version only right now. (I plan on getting the 360 one as well) I didn't mind him for a couple reasons. He didn't cost extra, he's just on the disk, and didn't take a slot away from anyone, so if you don't like him don't select him, he was just a bonus. Freddy to me, takes a DLC, possibly the final DLC character spot where there were characters with large fan bases that are actual characters of the property. That's why I hate this as much as I do. The way they did it.

Large fan bases? I'm sorry dude, but the 14-17 fans that come here representing most of the post-MK3 'characters' does not mean they have a large fan base.

Outside of this community, most people don't even know they exist.

"Dude, there's like a chick Raiden in this game!"

"Her name is Ashrah."

"Sorry, I wan't listening. JOHNNYBOUGHTACAAAAA! Man, this is dope."

Freddy has more fans than Tanya, Shinnok, Kai, and Reiko combined. What kind of reveal would it be if they announced one of them. "Oh hey, this person from MK4 is coming to the game! Everyone loved that game right?! Remember..remember these characters...? No?" People should have fucking seen this coming. But no, getting your hopes up is what this board does. Not saying you should just wait and see what happens, you can anticipate things. But not if you're going to wishfully think about what you want.

LOL. Midway was bankrupt, they were selling the rights to MK and the BAM Midway crossover with MK and DC!!!!!! But wait, WB owns the DC characters. Now WB owns the rights to MK. Hmmmm....let me make this simpler. It was a test to see if MK was worth buying, and it was. So they made MK9 which is the best MK there ever has been. Now that Kratos and Freddy are guests doesn't mean it's a crossover game. Play the fucking, god damn, story. Do you see Kratos driving a fucking DeLorean to the MK universe to kill Kahn because there are invaders? NO. Do you Freddy keeping Kahn up at night with nightmares in the story? NO. This isn't a fucking crossover game. Because they want to add some fun, yet brutal characters to the game, doesn't make it a crossover.

To say Freddy has more fans then anyone of the MK characters is stupid. That's like saying If they ever made a new Peter Pan movie they should replace Captain Hook with Wolverine because he's more recognizable and has a huge fan base. Just because someone is more recognizable then someone else, doesn't mean they belong. Also yes, among Mortal Kombat fans who like Mortal Kombat it is more popular to have Mortal Kombat characters!

This. And whatever fanbase Freddy has (gag), I'm sure at least 80-90% of them don't have Mortal Kombat to begin with to DLC him.
