What's with all the Asian fan choices for Sub-Zero? Isn't he supposed to be American? Also, about half of the cast should just be stunt men is costumes with voice overs.

- Both subzeros are Asian-American but got abducted by the Lin Kuei..hence why their names are Kaui Liang and Bi-Han

- Nah it's best to get actors that can actually act, look the part, and do the moves.

American doesn't instantly equal Caucasian btw.
They're half Cryo-mancer and half American. Cryo-Mancer is not a real race, so they're just American.

I think it'll be cheaper and better for heavily computerized costumed characters like Ermac, Baraka, and Shao Kahn are played by stuntmen with the likeness of a professional actor for their voice talents and facial features, instead of unknown martial artists with low acting ability(80% of the Legacy cast.)

Dude...what are you on?

America is NOT a race either it's a frickin nationality and yes they are obviously asian or their names wouldnt be Kaui Liang or Bi-Han...The cryomancers still have ethnicities regardless of the semantics you're trying to argue here.

Backstory-wise, Sub-Zero's father was a fullblooded Chinese Lin Kuei member who, while on a mission in America, married a white chick and had the Sub-Zero brothers. He's the one who abducted them back to China and made them join the clan.

Genetically, the terminology would be "Half-Chinese, Half-Caucasian".

The Sub-Zero family's been in the Lin Kuei for 5 generations, so the absolute soonest that Cryomancer blood could have entered the family tree is their Great Great Great Grandfather.

That would make them only 1/32 Cryomancer. Not significant enough to mention when describing ethnicity.

But it was probably even longer ago than that that the Cryomancers went extinct and the last ones came to Earthrealm.
P.S. Apologies for bumping a dead thread. I only saw it because It was recently linked to in another topic, didn't realize how old it was until after I posted..

It says Sub-Zero's father married an American woman- that doesn't mean she was Caucasian. She could have been a woman of Asian lineage born in the U.S. or an Asian woman who had American citizenship. Hell, she could have been ANY race. Even if she was Caucasian, the boys would have more Asian-looking features because the genes that create Asian facial features are dominate . (Have you ever seen the show John and Kate Plus 8? All the kids look way more like their dad, despite the fact that they are 1/4 Asian).

As for Edenians, they are not "Asian" or "African" or anything like that because Asia and Africa don't exist in Edenia, but they may have similar places where people who look different come from. For instance, a lot of black people are from Africa and equatorial regions because their skin pigment has to be thicker to protect them from the intense sun at those latitudes. So, it would make sense for darker-skinned people to live in Edenia by their equator. Therefore, it would make sense for Edenias to have different races depending on what part of Edenia they came from. I hope that makes sense.

When Tobias decided to write that Sub-Zero was Chinese-American, and the actor portraying him had been a white guy up to that point, what other race could he possibly have been implying? If he were supposed to fully Asian, why would Tobias even have bothered adding in that backstory?
It wouldn't have even remotely explained why Sub-Zero looks white in MK3 and Mythologies.

Sub-Zero doesn't look black-Chinese, fully Chinese or otherwise. They made him part white because the actor who portrayed him, John Turk, is white.
Back in the day, they clearly modeled MKG-MK:A Kitana after Talisa Soto, and MK4/G Sonya after Kerri Hoskins. Sub-Zero resembled his actor, John Turk, and they made the little retcon to his story to make it work.
Even in his MK9 retro MK3 costume, they made him looked mixed. Between the brothers, Bi-Han seems to have larger eyes and a broader nose than Kuai Liang, but they both appear to be part Asian part Caucasian.

Look at him in Deadly Alliance. He looks like a 50-something white guy, with slight Asiatic features.
Which of these looks like the Sub-Zero seen most consistently over the past 21 years: John Turk Sub-Zero or Legacy Sub-Zero...?

(As for mixed-race children always looking like one race, that's not necessarily true. It's not uncommon to find mixed race people who look completely white (with light eyes, light hair and fair skin) except for facial structure and hair texture, and with parents who were not mixed. Rarer, but it happens.)

Anyways... as for Edenians, they have shown separate "races" before. In Rain's vignette, you can see that there are black Edenians and white Edenians, as well as the Latino and Asian-like people seen before.
Jade's Desert is known to be in Edenia, which looks absolutely nothing like the lush paradise seen in Deception's konquest nor does it resemble the wastelands surrounding the Pyramid of Argus. With such disparities in climate, I highly doubt all Edenians look the same.

Outworlders also seem to have different peoples (not including the hybrids and subjugated species.) Though Li Mei and Bo' Rai Cho appear Asiatic, Reiko looks Caucasian. Outworld doesn't always have ominous purple skies. The realm varies from the sunny mountain village of Makeba (the Drum Arena,) the dark and dense living forest, the barren volcanic wasteland most often seen in the games, and the sandy ruins of the Golden Desert.

As for these fan-casting threads, it makes me so happy to know that none of these people posting will have anything to do with the casting of the next film.

The reason it was written that his mother is American was entirely to explain why Sub-Zero is played by John Turk, a white guy.

So yeah, mommy was caucasian.

Ali Larter should be Sonya

While Shin Kodayama should play Liu instead of Brian Tee. Besides, Brian doesn't have shaolin skills.

Ali Larter?

She has the looks AND acting skill of a small-town stripclub employee with a drug addiction. She's not even good enough for TV, she was like the single worst actor on all of Heroes and there was a lot of bad acting in Heroes so that's saying something. Why would you put her in a movie? (Yes, I know she's already been in the RE movies, but I don't consider those "real" films, I think of them as low-budget direct-to-video movies that somehow accidentally got put in theaters)

This is probably the best cast I have seen for MK movie. The actors are spot-on,but I would put personally Scott Adkins for Kuai Liang/Sub-Zero Jr. and choose somebody else for Jade role. And Aleks Paunovic still works as Shao Kahn IF he wears a helmet for God's sake.

Dashil Hernandez as Jade (look at those kneecaps boyyyyy).

But u shouldn't be paying attention to their acting. MK isn't "Les Miserables". I want a good-looking cast packed with hot chicks. I don't care if they can fight. Make fight scenes CGI like the Legacy 1 Cyrax & Sektor vs Hydro.

I have no expectations for Mortal Kombat to ever be anywhere near "Les Mis", but I don't want something that reeks of a Saturday morning tv show, either. And if I wanna look at hot chicks with bad acting in a video game fighter based movie, I'll just watch DOA. Even if it means having to watch Eric Roberts somehow transform into an expert martial artist just by putting on a pair of sunglasses.

I don't want noob acting as well. However I don't want it to be like Legacy where female actresses were really ugly like Sonya and Kitana. I think MK film should have women that are both models and actresses. Kate Upton for example is a model and actress.

Mini Anden is way too old to play Kitana.

Freya Tingley has a good look for Kitana

Heather Hemmens (Hellcats) as either Jade or Tanya. Preferably Jade, imo.

Yvonne Strahovski, or Dianna Agron, as Sonya.

Overblow the budget with it. Not to mention doing it with competent people is actually more efficient. But I guess you were trying to troll for your fifteen minutes of fame.

And there he goes again, talking sh*t about someone's country. You are like the only guy who really expresses his desire for looks over fights on this forum.

I would watch Mortal Kombat for mostly it's fight scenes. If the female actor can't fight but looks pretty, then it ain't worth my time. CGI fights would be too expensive and look terrible if those CGI models are meant to be human. CGI should only be used for special effects and certain non-human characters.

Cyrax, Sektor, and Hydro had the real actor fight in those scenes with real robot suits, they just enhanced them in CGI .
