A September online release may put it well beyond the San Diego Comic-Con schedule [full story], but Mortal Kombat: Legacy II will indeed have a presence at the International expo, when Matt Atchity (of Rotten Tomatoes) hosts a cast preview panel!

Director Kevin Tancharoen leads an announced guest list, with cast members: Casper Van Dien (Johnny Cage), Brian Tee (Liu Kang), Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion) & Samantha Jo (Kitana). Franchise co-creator and NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon will round out the panel as special guest. Boon noted the pending program announcement in a recent tweet.

The panel takes place Thursday, July 18 (6:00pm), and will include never-before-seen footage from the live-action second series. Tancharoen previewed scenes from a Scorpion/Sub-Zero fight sequence during last week's 24 Hour Machinima Prime Anniversary Stream. The stream archive was removed from public access, but you can still read Mortal Kombat Online's critical review of the preview.

[Boon] has been supportive of the live-action Legacy adaptation, commenting on the Series II trailer, "Just saw the trailer for Mortal Kombat Legacy 2. Looks fantastic!" He appeared briefly in a Johnny Cage centric episode of the first series [Episode 3].

The game maker has also teased a surprise coming the weekend before SDCC at the 2013 Evo World Championship (July 12-14). We know the mystery will pertain to Injustice: Gods Among Us, but with next generation consoles pulling focus, many eyes are now trained on the next instalment of the Mortal Kombat video game series. Rumors of a next gen sequel, or further Injustice crossover DLC [RE: Scorpion], remain persistent.
