Batman exists in a world where other heroes exist- there's nothing revolutionary or even different about having multiple DC characters on screen. Even the Arkhamverse alludes to the fact that there are superhumans in existence elsewhere on the planet. In DC comics proper, that is the mainstream continuity, there is no Batman world, Superman world, Flash world etc. Each hero may have their own stomping grounds, but they exist within the same world; Flash from Keystone or Central City could go to Hub City and find the Question to help him track down Batman who has left Gotham and gone missing in Bludhaven. It's a unified universe called New Earth. Also, certain characters -like Deathstroke who appears in Arkham Origins- really have no "proper home," they wander from title to title.

Finally, almost every hero engages in physical combat. What is it that earns Batman his fighting game? This nonexistent grit? Batman looks gritty because he growls, he goes out at night, he wears black, and pisses and moans about his mummy and dada. At the end of the day he doesn't kill people, probably does less bodily damage than Superman, and lets the whole thing repeat. The Batman mythos is more defined by the caliber of villains he fights than himself.

Why am I not surprised some bigot can't stand diversity, even among fictional characters? But to get on topic, a Batman-themed fighting game could work, but it's not all that necessary. As far as Batman and fighting games go, anything we could get in such a game, we likely could also get in one featuring the entire DC universe, or a crossover with another franchise.

What we really need imo is an appearance by Adam West's Batman, either as an alt or his own character, complete with words like WHAM! or CRACK! appearing whenever anyone gets hit.

It simply wouldn't have the diversity that Injustice has, and we'd end up getting characters like Penguin and Riddler, great characters but not suited to a fighting game.

And what makes the Penguin and Riddler unsuitable for fighting games, exactly? The Joker and Lex Luthor were considered unsuitable for fighting games too back when MK vs DC Universe was in development. Good thing few gamers ever become developers, or we'd get a lot of unimaginative crap.

It's not that they wouldn't fit. Anything could be a fighting game character. The Wii Fit Trainer is now a fighting game character.

The real question is this: will the qualities that people love most about the Riddler/Penguin be implemented in a fighting game version of the characters? I don't think people like these characters for their combat abilities.

The Penguin wouldn't be that hard to fit into a fighting game. He could use his umbrellas in various ways, like firing bullets, shielding himself from attacks, or even flying. If what I read on Wikipedia's accurate, he actually has some skills in Judo and Fisticuffs.

The Riddler, admittedly, would be more difficult to handle right, but competent developers should be able to think of something. He's already got a little going for him as a potential fighter, like explosive jigsaw pieces, and his cane.

You know a Batman villain I'd want for a fighting game? The Ventriloquist! Three to choose from, two of them women. As well as the Mad Hatter and Two-Face. What the hell, a lot of them would be fun to play as.

Better? No.

More Focused on Batsman? Yes.

Eventually people would have complained that the Batman characters (Batman, Batgirl, Robin, Red Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, Batwoman etc) would have felt a bit too similar and that the roster would have lacked a bit of diversity.

I mean I can picture the roster now. And even I am finding it hard to picture Riddler in a fighting game. NRS aren't as bizarre as Capcom.

Lex was always going to be in a powersuit, because that what Lex do. And Joker is in a bizarre position where he could be in a fighting game despite being beaten up at every opportunity.
