- "X-Men: Apocalypse" Has "Mass Destruction," '80s Setting, Singer Says [March 14, 2014]
“We’re going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants – the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago," "Days of Future Past" director Bryan Singer tells Total Film (via Comic Book Movie). "But it’ll be a contemporary movie – well, it’ll take place in the ’80s. ... The ’80s is a period now – it’s hard for me to believe that!”
- Singer Teases Possibility of Nightcrawler and Gambit in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ [March 21, 2014]
“I’m considering a Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for Apocalypse,” Singer said. “[I was] going to have Nightcrawler appear [in Days of Future Past], and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants known history.” Chalk the shaky syntax up to Google Translation.
- CHANNING TATUM GAMBIT Solo Film, APOCALYPSE Appearance Confirmed, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Moving [May 13, 2014]
"Multiple sources say that Tatum will get a stand-alone spinoff, with his version of Gambit being introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse," reports THR. "The stand-alone film is still in development, however, and no director has been attached."
- Quicksilver Will Return For ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ [May 20, 2014]
Evan Peters’ Quicksilver, whom some early reviews have characterized as one of the bright spots of X-Men: Days of Future Past, will “absolutely” return for X-Men: Apocalypse. So says writer/producer Simon Kinberg, who may possess super-speed himself, judging from all of the interviews he’s done leading up to the Friday release of the new X-Men film.
- Channing Tatum on Gambit Role in 'X-Men: Apocalypse': 'I'm Dying to Do It' (Video) [May 22, 2014]
"I hope to be joining -- everything's not done yet," he told THR on May 19. "I've obviously been in talks, and we're on the one yard line," he added. "I'm always afraid of being like, 'Yes it's totally happening' and then it doesn't happen." "I'm dying to do it," he said of the sequel, which would follow the latest film X-Men: Days of Future Past, hitting theaters May 23.

It'll be set in the 80's and Cyke and Jean and co. will probably be in it as teenagers.
So...yes.
Well...not "everybody", in that McAvoy, Fassbender, J-Law, and of course Jackman will all presumably be back.
I wonder when McAvoy is going to start shaving his head. The whole time I was watching DoFP, I kept thinking "His hair looks pretty good for a dude in his 30's who's supposed to go bald"

“The post-credit sequence is a tease into what will be the Apocalypse movie” he explained. “Now the Apocalypse you see – that young boy – may not be the actor who plays the character in our movie. It’s a deep back story glimpse into the character, but our movie doesn’t take place in ancient Egypt and will likely not star a young boy Apocalypse.”

When I saw the post-credits, a few of my friends were scratching their heads, unsure what this was supposed to be.
A guy turned around and said, "it's Colossus, dude!"
Ehh... Colossus was in the movie. That ain't Colossus.
Ah, "nerds." But whatever. I'm now ready to see more X-Men movies. I'm unsure how Channing is going to play Gambit, he is my favorite male character but, I dunno.

In the filmmakers' defense, royalty long ago, especially in ancient Egypt, dressed and otherwise looked effeminate, so, they were being historically accurate, somewhat

Yeah, same here. i don't see him fitting the role as gambit either.
Was I the only one who actually thought Taylor Kitsch was a good Gambit in Xmen Origins: Wolverine?!
If they are going to recast Gambit, I'd rather see a french martial artist like Julien Greaux play him over Tatum.

I didn't like the first guy who played Gambit, and I'm not exactly wild about the next one, either. OTOH, maybe he'll surprise me.

Though teasing Apocalypse is itself a nice thing, I was REALLY underwhelmed by the overall concept in the teaser.
The dude was good. He nailed the voice, too. There's nothing wrong with him as an actor, but his movies keep bombing (often for a good reason). He's never the problem, though.
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Seeing him in ancient Egypt just wasn't terribly interesting. Thanos was so hype because he was on his throne in outer-fucking-space. I realize it doesn't make sense to cast an actor and design a costume when they probably don't even have a script ready yet, but showing a modern Apocalypse in the shadows would have made him feel threatening and relevant. All that said, I thought the actor looked good.

- Kinberg Says Singer Likely to Return as "X-Men: Apocalypse" Director
Don't think they've shown any other indication, but I can't say I wouldn't have been pleased to hear Vaughan was returning. Under better circumstances than [recent] affairs would have it, mind.

Neither are stepped strippers yet somehow channing tatum has been very successful in the acting business

Tatum had a charismatic presence in the like one or two scenes he was on screen before he dies in GI Joe 2.
Granted, I don't believe for a second that he can do a good southern accent much less a cajun one. I'm just saying, he's not the worst actor out there. Seems like comedy is his strong suit and he needs to stop taking action roles, though.
Not that Hollywood would let that happen since he's a beefcake dude the chicks are into, I guess.
You put lipstick on a teenager, he's gonna look like a girl. Every time.
Wouldn't have happened if he had the weird muppet-lips that go all the way to his ears from the comics, lol. Just sayin'...

Not like it matters. I doubt we'll see that version of Apocalypse in the next movie anyway.

- En Sabah Who? The History of the Villain of "X-Men: Apocalypse"
Nice little spotlight on Apocalypse and some of his major moments. A comics perspective for anybody looking to get ahead of the curve.
Kinberg said as much in... one of the articles linked to [above].
The story is set in the eighties. Ancient Egypt could - at best - factor into the backstory. Although, Bryan Singer appears to be staying on board for direction duties [pending litigation], so you never can confidently put your money on the colour and fantasy of it being delivered.

Not sure where this idea that Singer doesn't deliver in the color and fantasy aspect of the films. He gave us crazy ass looking Mystique, Sabretooth, Toads, Nightcrawler...
Someone who created the movie-verse Mystique isn't crazy enough for comic-book Apocalypse's puppet mouth? You can't be serious.

There's an inherent demand for a certain amount of fantasy in these things. There just is. Someone who gave us that version of Mystique, Sabretooth, Toad, Nightcrawler clearly recognizes that inherent demand, but is struggling to find his way through it.
Delivery is a keyword, because it's not just the way they look, but how they interact, and their place in the films. Singer is uncomfortable and distracted by the fantastic elements. They're things to be dealt with. The less colourful, the better.
I don't know that Matthew Vaughan is much more in love with the comic book side of these projects, but he is clearly infinitely more comfortable with arranging the pieces as they are. It isn't the burden it is in the Singer films. He has a pop sensibility that gels well with the things Singer clearly doesn't enjoy. It's in his script and his celluloid.
Singer's Mystique, Sabretooth, Toad & Nightcrawler -- full of wasted energy to try to blend them into a movie aesthetic that abandons the colour and joy of their original incarnations -- can debatably establish that his version of Apocalypse will very much depart from the puppet mouth, and other familiar elements from well known comic versions.

Would we have had this same discussion about Sentinels before Days of Future Past? It's a comparison worth considering.
Per the words - you're perhaps confusing the issue. There's more than one thing being discussed here: one of those things being the premise of Singer's disinterest. His actions speak for themselves, in that regard. Per the simple point: There will almost certainly be a departure from iconic designs. There has always been departure from iconic designs. Nine feet of blue armor and pipes, with a muppet mouth to boot -- doesn't strike me as the time to start slavishly referencing the comics.
More often than not, the "hero" [feature] characters are very recognizable. We will very likely be able to identify Apocalypse on sight. Will he be as he is in that image? Well, never say never! Nothing [Singer]'s done before says that's likely -- naked blue ladies, or otherwise. Lets not forget, he even went out of his way to undo some of what was done in First Class. Which was notably rewritten and restyled when he departed. It's not impossible, though.
Maybe Days of Future Past was a fond farewell to the old approach and we're going to take a bold step forward into colourful iconography. That could certainly be a lot of fun and might even keep them in the superhero arms race [gross, not withstanding]. I don't think it's Singer's style, but I certainly won't argue it can't happen. I just think concessions of convenience are equally probable.
