Know Your Enemy: The Fighting Variations of Ferra/Torr

They made a massive impact on debut during the Sony E3 Press Conference Launch - immediately inspiring comparisons to another certain pop culture character. Now the brutal fighting tandem known as Ferra/Torr are taking the Character Variation spotlight - revealing the strengths and weaknesses of their Mortal Kombat X playstyles according to the developer themselves!

So far we've seen infographics for D'Vorah, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kano & Quan Chi. Each spotlight explains the unique strengths and weaknesses of the Character Variation system - an innovation that reinvents each fighter to create specialist match-ups between individual player styles. Visual differences make variation identification a snap as evidenced when all three are compared!

Ruthless: Ruthless Ferra/Torr trades pain for power. By stabbing her blades into Torr's back, Ferra spurs the brute on, increasing his damage output. This variation is all about balancing risk against reward and is excellent for rush downs.

Vicious: The Vicious Variation sees Ferra turned into a living weapon with her increased damage. Torr uses the Boss Toss to hurl Ferra across the arena, while Ferra gains the Little Kutter interactive grab. The combination turns Ferra/Torr into a hybrid of brawler and zoner, with options of attacking from any range.

Lackey: In the Lackey Variation, an enhanced Torr does the heavy lifting by himself. With Ferra cheering safely from the sidelines, the brute is free to hurl himself recklessly into battle, becoming an in-your-face rush down brawler with deadly close range attacks.

Mortal Kombat X doesn't arrive until Q2 2015 -- but Ferra/Torr have already begun to inspire a cult following with their vivid concept and brutal presentation! Check out the Top 10 Mortal Kombat Horror Icons for more on what's already disturbing us about MK's newest power couple! Stay tuned in the coming days for the remaining Character Variations.

Torr looks like he walked out of a horror game like Clocktower 3 or The Evil Within.

He looks fucking awesome. The Bloody handprint on his uh sack is a nice touch.

After Ferra/Torr week; Kotal Kahn, Cassie Cage and Scorpion (!) will be the only E3 Holdovers left.

I'm glad they haven't forgotten about these characters in the Reveal schedule.

Suddenly.

Is it me or Ferra's hands look like they've made out of plastic? And what's going on with her face?

Looks like this will be the "Bane" variation. Ferra/Torr is the most interesting newbie thus far. Can't wait to get some play time with them.

There are bigger sacrifices one might be asked to make than going a little mad.

Ooo glad to see these coming. I guess they needed to finalise some stuff or something. Ferra/Torr looks pretty damn cool, can't wait to see more.

I dunno why, but every time I see Torr I think he's really undead Jax. I've gotten that vibe since E3. Doesn't make sense, I know, but there it is.

This variation sounds like fun. Looking forward to trying it out. Hopefully, in game, all of these variations are explained (the pros and cons, risks and rewards, etc) and we don't have to search online for explanations of them.

I hope they make infographics for all the characters and their variations and put them in the extras section on the game disc.

RE: Know Your Enemy: The Fighting Variations of Ferra/Torr [1/3]

I can't tell which of Ferra/Torr's variation is more Bane like, this ruthless one or the one where he fights without Ferra. To me it sounds like this ruthless variation will play like Bane simultaneously doing level 3 venom damage while taking debuff level damage in return, only minus all the armor. Not sure if the lack of armor will balance him out more or just totally fuck him over. Not even sure if there is a lack of armor. I really don't have much information to go off so this is just my shot in the dark comparison.

They say this variation is good for rush down (although none of Ferra/Torr's variation look like they'd be good for anything other than rush down) so I assume he's either gonna have armor on this special moves or a lot of specials/ normal strings that are plus on block. We could be looking at MKX Bane or MK9 Johhny Cage on steroids with a monkey on his back. Not saying he's copying them or a knock off or anything, just looking for vague similarities because there is absolutely nothing else to fucking talk about.

Ruthless: Very similar to Bane with the stabbing/venom for more damage output comparison. He throws her around a little but mostly he throws the opponent.
Vicious: Havn't seen footage of this one but Ferra's damage output is higher, so she'll be flung all around.
Lackey: (w/o Ferra) seems a bit pointless having a tag-team with one of them only on the sidelines joining in for the Xray move. I don't know what the benefit is here.

Also why is Ferra so skinny? Can we have her a bit wider to make her look like a real midget? Not fat or anything, just make it look as though her frame actually has bones and organs inside. (Forgive the political incorrectness, but what other word can i use where you'll know what i mean?)

Is it just me or does Ferra/Torr seem reminiscent of Gargantuar and the Imp from Plants vs. Zombies?

I wouldn't be shocked to see Torr given a few frames of armor here and there. He wouldn't have a chance in hell against the more speedy characters without it. Let's hope that, unlike Bane, they don't over do it.

The "vicious" variation sounds right up my alley. Tools for every situation.

Ferra/Torr is sounding more awesome by the day.

We've got somebody that plays like Bane, Goro is rumored to play like Doomsday...I hope we get someone that plays like Solomon Grundy. I'd be happy as hell...maybe that's what the "lacky" variation will feel like...hmmm.

There are bigger sacrifices one might be asked to make than going a little mad.

Ferra/Torr look awesome. Regardless on how you feel about them, they're definitely unique to the MK universe.

Agreed. Definitely going to take some getting used to for a lot of players, but I think those who master the duo's different variations could wreak havoc on others because of that uniqueness. For the average player, taking out a Goliath while an extremely fast midget with daggers is being hurled at you, is going to be a tall order.

Well, i'm hoping they aren't too carbon-copy from the bulky Injustice characters, that would be uninspired. Personally i hated Solomon Grabby and his multitude of difficult throw combos.

The video footage I've seen of Ferra/Torr shows a glow that looks like armour on some moves.

They were a bit too difficult to execute on Grundy, but I love grab-chains, personally. I play Jax a lot in MK9.

They aren't really "bulky", but more-less big brutes.

I really like those type of characters because they are more of a challenge to use than the other characters.
I just hope there is at least one or two more big brutes to join Torr and Goro.

*Awaiting the Lackey variation*
