Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa Will Return in New Webseries

Beloved Shang Tsung actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa has confirmed his return for the 2015 live-action Mortal Kombat webseries!

Little is known about the new series, announced in conjunction with Warner Bros. new digital content banner Blue Ribbon Content In October.

The actor tweeted, "GOIN' WORK ON "MK LEGACY 3" ON MON. CAN'T WAIT." It is unclear if the new webseries is a direct sequel to 2013's Mortal Kombat: Legacy II, which reintroduced the actor as Shang Tsung [full story], or if this is merely a shorthand reference.

Casting rumors suggest the new series will veer significantly closer to the video game experience than prior works in Legacy. New characters from Mortal Kombat X comics number among the casting roles, along with iconic fighters like Scorpion - previously depicted by Ian Anthony Dale in two series of Legacy - and Bo' Rai Cho. Fellow legacy stars Casper Van Dien (Johnny Cage) and Mark Dacascos (Kung Lao) commenced training last September. Their current status is unknown.

Tagawa first appeared on screen as Shang Tsung in the 1995 major motion picture, Mortal Kombat. The Paul Anderson directed movie celebrates its 20th anniversary in November.

Cool. But for the actual movie, does anyone else think that it would be awesome to cast Big Trouble in Little China's JAMES HONG as the elderly sorcerer Shang Tsung and perhaps a younger actor to play the MK2/3 version of him?

You damn right he has to return. After all it was Cary who coined the phrase: "Your Soul Is Mine"

It just doesn't feel right hearing somebody else using that line.

Probably not, given that there's been nothing said anywhere about Legacy season 3, we know the MKX webseries is going to start filming this month, and several of the people who worked on Legacy are working on the MKX series.

Who watches this crap anymore?

Mortal Kombat Legacy is as bad as it can get. Oh, wait.... the lowest point of the MK franchise was when a lot of pseudo-fans chanted and clapped at the atrocious Rebirth made by Tancharoen. Fortunately, the guys at NRS knew better and slapped him over the mouth with the TRUE AND NORMAL lore and mythology (which he managed to screw too).

TLDR: Legacy sucks! Try MK Conquest if you want a good exiting MK story. And that series was made 20 years ago!!!!
