MK Shaolin monks two

Was NRS responsible for MK:SM? And is NRS cut to make a sequel or a new MK adventure we all want so bad?

I see many users asking for a sequal or new game like Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. I too love to see a similar game or sequal. Big fan of MK:SM.

Story wasn't NRS's strongest part. Also does NRS like to change the direction of MK alot.

With this in mind i hope a sequel or new game doesn't look too different to what we were used to see in MK:SM.

MK: Shaolin Monks came out back in 2005 during the Midway days. I still have the game, and it's actually a very fun game overall. I wouldn't mind seeing an adventure game with similar gameplay return. It could be a great way to have a story expansion in between the main fighting games. However, I didn't like the way MK2's story was handled, and the voice acting didn't help much either. Then again, with the NRS era, we can get MK games that have better quality in voice acting. Despite some issues I have with MK9 and MKX's story modes, I think MK has come a long way in terms of presentation of the characters.

MKSM was done by one by Midway Los Angeles a team that went defunct a few years after the release of MKSM with many of it's members joining Sony Santa Monica and subsequently working on God of War series hence the very similar ideas..

Story aside, MKSM got many things right and much better than MKDA-MKA. The team was directed by Ed, Tony Goskie (Arena) and Steve Beran (Characters' design). They managed to bring the old classic atmosphere ad the characters designs were better than the ones in MKDA-MKA.

The game is still so fun to play, had some smart secrets, funny cut scenes and believe it or not STEVE RITCHIE as an announcer.

Midway actually wanted to do a sequel titled MK Fire and Ice starring Subby and Scorp, but they dropped the idea after they studio went dead. I assume their main Chicago team ( Today's NRS) was busy doing MKDC. U can find some concept art online.

I would love to see a new sequel featuring the same gameplay style. The game had one of the best co-op I have ever experienced. I would take it over MK11.

thanks for sharing. I defenitly agree.

It's the best Co-op game i played. And one of my favorite MK games. I still play this Co-op in 2016 haha.

Steve ritchie as the announcer, that was a big plus. I think his voice was the best in MK2. Just how he pronounced the words was so good. Too bad NRS didn't want Steve Richie in MK9. Would be cool to have him back as Shao kahn.

RE: MK Shaolin monks two

Shaolin Monks is my favorite MK, and actually one of my favorite video games of all time. I've been holding my breath for a sequel for over a decade. ErmaSco pointed out some very good information, however. The development team that created the original has long since disbanded and gone their separate ways. Without the original team, it could be hard to recapture the magic that made the first game so good. My favorite part about the first MKSM was the controls and the gameplay. I hadn't been happy with brawlers post SNES until this game came out. What they achieved in mechanics and feel in the first game is truly amazing, especially considering Midway's cutthroat budget and deadlines at the time. I think this speaks volumes as to just how talented the development team truly was.

Regardless, even if they don't 100% nail the gameplay mechanics like they did in the first game, I still would want this game more than most people want a Half Life 3.

I hoped some that helped developing MK:SM were still with NRS. So the chance that it would look and play similar would increase. I like MK:SM alot for its gameplay and oldschool MK setting.

I agree. Midway was very talented and the mechanics were really good. grabs, kick, strikes, specials, upgrades, secrets, platform elements and all the fatals. It made the game awesome for replayability. I also liked how the combat was animated. And the intro is one of my favorites in the series. The game was just so good in many ways.

It'd be a fun idea if they implemented a Friendship into the game, and if you performed it on random enemies they'd fight on your side until they died, kind of like the psychosis gun effect in perfect dark.

Haha thats not a bad idea. They regain 50% health back and fight your side

MK Shaolin Monks is one of the best games I have ever played. Hopefully we see some similar genre MK game in near future.

I think if SM2 is to ever see the light of day, they should smash what was best from MKSM and the 3D game’s konquest modes. An action rpg with an open world, while pretty much par for the course these days, would be the perfect direction to take the second game.

There are bigger sacrifices one might be asked to make than going a little mad.
