Do you fear that all these extras will be "half-@$$ed"?
While I'm excited about the revamped Konquest, Puzzle Kombat, Chess Kombat, etc., I have this persistent fear that, in reality, they're nothing more than gimmicks rather than actual gaming inclusions. So, really, you're not get Puzzle Fighter with MK, you're getting a watered down version with SD MK characters that's not as good as it could be. The whole Konquest mode is a shallow adventure that really suffers from a lack of attention to details, development, gameplay, and storyline. Chess Kombat is really nothing but a strange Tournament style last-man-standing ordeal with a few bolts and nuts thrown in there to make chess "new". Those are my fears, but are they justifiable? Or do you think that these extras will be worth the price of admission as stand-alones? Fatality.

I'm always weary to anything MK offers outside of the arcade mode. Most of us grew up on straight up Mortal Kombat, and essentially that's all we'll ever need.
Spicing up MK with extra modes IS a good way to sell a few more copies.. but it ultimately won't do or die the franchise. It all lies in the fighting game.
I can tell you right now the only immediate value and useage of the modes I will get out of will be to unlock the secrets they hold.. granted I hope are characters and stuff that pertains to.. the fighting.

I think Puzzle MK and Chess MK look fine. But Konquest gets me.It looks a little boring. It's a excellent Idea. But from the videos I've seen the fighting looks stiff.Well not fighting but that punch the charcter does.I HOPE the FIGHTING WILL BE BETTER IN KONQUEST.
It's a FIGHTING game. The extras are just stuff thrown in there. When I play MK, I just care about the gameplay of the aCTUAL fighting, I could really carelessabout Konquest mode, the chess game, andwhatnot. Besides, if they are weak, it's becasue they put all their emphasis into the REAl game, not the extras. the Konquest mode can't be any worse than the "Konquest" mode in DA, you couldn't even call that a conquest.

The way you said that, anyone would think that Boon+co put more effort into the storyline arcade mode than the extra modes, and that the extra modes aren't there to distract people from the fact that the fighting in MK isn't actually any good and that they've spent more time on the end of the rounds (hari-kari, fatalities and stage fatalities) than the beggining and middle and the rounds (still boasting about the 3 styles system as if it hasn't been done before, when it's been done as far back as Tekken 3)

You're a Mortal Kombat fan, right?

I don't see what the interest is in all these extra modes. The only reason I'll play anything outside arcade mode is to unlock characters and what not. Meaning I'm forced to bore myself with all the fluff before I can actually get to the core of the game. Fighting. That'll bore the piss out of me. Just like the Krypt and Konquest did.

I'm not that worried with these extras. It's the secret characters that I'm in fear of. I hope they have everything the normal characters do.

I don;t worry about the modes they'll be great it's just the core fighter I worry about it maybe a lil better the MKDA but then maybe u'll never know until we play it.
i like the way chess kombat and puzzle kombat r coming along..they dont look half assed..
but im a little worried about the konquest mode..it looks a little to easy..from all the videos i c..it pretty much tells u what to do and where to go..id like to work a little...
mkda's "fluff" is god awful..i pray they dont make that mistake again..

Absolutely everything in MKDA was half-assed...why not everything in Deception? The ring-outs a.k.a. 'Death Traps' are already the most disappointing. 'Stage FAtalities returning!' my ass...more like glorified ring outs that are gonna get boring REALLY quick. Deception is already half assed.

Take a bow. I couldn't have said it better myself.
MK Puzzle and MK Chess look a bit "bland." They look like games that would be better off on a Gameboy Advance, and it looks to me a lot like a cover-up for other features. Sort of a "if you don't like Kombat, play the mini games!" Konquest seems to NOT be an adventure game, but something put in order to make MK:D have a looooooong replay value by simply trying to master Shujinko. There better be some good adventure mode tricks. Such as destroyng property and KILLING people. If I wanted to watch a story on what happened to the other fighters, I would rather just read a book.

Well I hope they arent spending too much time on the extra's and neglecting the gameplay of arcade mode. MKDA seemed half-assed, and I hope MKD doesnt follow its predecessor and get boring quickly. I like the addition of the death traps, interactive stages, online, konquest etc. but I just wish they make the fighting top notch, and not sloppy. 100% effort is what we deserve, for the price of the game, I'm even buying the PS2 online adapter just for MKD (well, Twisted Metal Black also
)

I couldn't care less about these extra games...THey look fun..admitted.. But when I buy MK I want to fight. Nothing else.. If I want to play chess or a RPG I'll put a chess board on my table or buy Final Fantasy XII. I want Boon&Friends to to put all their energy (and my future money) into making the fighting great, greater, greatest..
This diversification of Puzzle, Chess and Conquest is NOT an improvement, it is a distraction that has NOTHING to do with MK..

Um at E3 Boon said that they were only just then balancing the gameplay, because they did the extras first, does that seem stupid to anyone else?
I think day did the extra first so they'll have more time for the gameplay boosting up.It's a smart idea too finish the modes first because gameplay ideas can come up anytime,an they'll just add it.I believe
the puzzle mode won't be in for mk7 because they'll really need too focus on fatalties and of course gameplay. Can't wait too play chess kombat since it has actual combat in it.

I think you're looking for a game called
"Grand Theft Auto" my friend. You can do whatever you want in that sad, pathetic game. Go play it, it's out already.
As for everyone else, it's pretty sad you already have these bad negative thoughts about the game. There is no doubt in my mind the game will be perfect. Man, I cannot believe 9/10 people thrash it. I really need to stop reading these boards.

Oh, and for the record, stage fatalities suck compared to death traps. You can't do stage fatalities in 3d, its not POSSIBLE.
Ok, you could, but you can't set it up to be able to do it every time. What if your at the other side of the arena, or on a different fighting level?
Death traps, really are the BEST way to do stage fatalities in 3D. They really are returning stage fatalities. What else do you call getting cut up by a meat grinder, an animality? mmm no. Besides, Boon said both stage fatalities and death traps will be in the game, but I don't see that happening, which is completely fine with me.
Glorified ring outs? Give me a break. One of the greatest ideas ever, fatalities incorporated to unique gameplay.
Be more positive, please. You're starting to bring me down with your depressingness (is that a word?)

I'm not going to bother with those 2 last posts, one thinks a cut scene of a MK themed ring-out has something to do with gameplay and another thinks the GTA series are adventure games, I'll let the stupidity of both speak for themselves

It does have something to do with gameplay, smartass. It takes skill to get them near a death trap, and there are reversal moves to incorporate STRATEGY. Get out, you're not an MK fan, poser. I'm becoming ashamed to be an MK fan. You don't deserve these games. Nothing but sad people with nothing better to do than thrash the games. No point in arguing. Are there any true fans left out there?
