Stages and Environmental Hazards

One thing lacking in MK are environmental hazards. My recent Weather Thread focused on the elements and this thread draws heavily from it. However, this thread focuses on the more physical, environmental hazards.
Certain stages like the Living Forest or Jades Desert could have incorporated some of these dangers. I present here some of those dangers and some of the other dangers that could possibly occur in other stages in MK.
Stages and Environmental Hazards
Jades Desert: It wouldve been cool to fight on the sands here. Environmental hazards here could include a sandstorm which can obstruct vision or damage both players. Or maybe even whisk them off balance. In deserts sand dunes rise and falling and itd be cool to see the sands rise or fall with you on them. This could put you at a height advantage or disadvantage against the opponent. It can allow you to avoid attacks but you probably wouldnt be able to attack them with all attacks. And finally, for a death trap, you can have quicksand there to suck the opponent down into the ground. Let's throw some mirages in that are really deathtraps also!
Snow Stage (MK4): This arena was circular and enclosed and the outside edges were covered in snow. The hail effects I mentioned earlier would be great for here, or maybe even sleet. Sleet would cause a small icy layer to appear on the surface and cause you to slip, slide and maybe fall at times if you move too quickly. If hail isnt falling, then maybe snow can. If it is blizzard like the increase of snow on the ground can hinder the movement of the players. And if the opponents were to be knocked against the walls, the snow that has built up along the walls can fall down on top of them maybe. Itll take the character awhile to get out of it and maybe make them slow as they recover from the cold. In a proper snow environment an avalanche could be caused. Also, in cold areas like this, characters other than Sub-Zero and gods might not be affected by the temperatures. Others would be shaky and shivery and this could slow them down a little.
The Wind Stage (MK4): Imagine the winds here building up and the thunder and lightning becoming even more violent. Tornadoes could build up and lightning could strike the mountains in the background destroying parts of them. The loosened rocks could be picked up by the tornadoes and launched into the arena your fighting in. unless you avoid them, you get crushed. If you do, flying debris might hurt you a little. The lightning can also strike the ground and maybe open up holes which would make you fall down to your death.
Subway: Imagine this place all nice and calm! And boring! Lets throw in an earthquake! Imagine the train coming off the track and the roof caving in and the pillars collapsing! Itd be a nice background effect! Imagine chunks of rock from the road above falling down and you have to avoid them. What if a car sudden drove down and crashed? The explosion would be one youd need to avoid as well as the car itself. Instead of all that you could just have part of the roof cave in and act like a stair case to the street above.
Other stages in MK can have hazards too. Water stages can have huge tidal waves appear and crash down on both fighters or maybe earthquakes can happen in other stages and cause boulders to roll down or have buildings collapse on you. Slight tremors can interrupt fighting a little also. There are many possibilities. The Wastelands could have you fighting amongst vines and thorns which damage you and rip clothing. And then you can have volcanic eruptions and you have to avoid magma and hot rocks being shot out of the volcano. And even geysers!

The Subway effect with the earthquake and the crashes would look incredibly sweet! Hopefully they could do something like that in game!
And thanks!

nice ideas tgrant! and thread!
I got just two small interactions for levels
The portal from mkda: in the back there is a ship that keeps losing boards during the fight. Some of those boards should be a little lower, and hit you. Or they should land in the stage, and you could pick them up and use they as a weapon
The ice stage in DA: the stage has many ice spikes that you can smash. With the small spikes you should be able to brake them off and use them as weapons. also in the center of the stage should be a giant spike that, at the end of a match, you can uppercut your oppenent onto as a stage fatality

I love the Wind Realm (MK4) one, that would be great!
Here are my ideas, but most of them are for creating your own hazards...
The Deadpool (MK2,MKT,MKD)
Could have the acid bubbling from time to time. Then the bubbles could burst sending a geizer of acid onto the fighting arena. So it would burn the fighters if it hits them. Also acid could build up on the fighting platform, causing it to corrode as the fight progresses. Then certain areas would be unstable, so if you step (or are knocked) onto a weak, corroded part you would fall in (like a death trap.) However it would be in the middle of the arena, so you'd have to jump or run over it to avoid falling in and losing the round/match.
Kombat Tomb (MK2,MKT) or Goro's Lair (MK4) Eathrquakes could rumble the arena, and if the fight is long the spikes could start to come loose. If enough time elapses they would being to fall, and impale the fighter if they get hit. Your fighter could also manualy make them fall, say you were Kai - you could send a fireball into the ceiling to make the spikes loosen and fall quicker.
Living Forest (MK2, MK4, MKD)
Perhaps you could shoot a projectile into a tree to make it fall, an if timed right would hit your opponent. If it missed, it would just smash and the fighting arena would be the same again.
Armoury (MK2)
Shoot a projectile into the protective wall, creating a stream of molten lava (not sure what the liquid fire stuff is called in a smoldering place) that goes right through the arena creating a new hazard.
Belltower (MK3, MKT)
Repeated knkockdowns of fighters makes the floor boards weak. If they become too weak they break away, and you must avoid the created holes for the rest fo the fight. Or else you will fall 6 floors onto the spikes below.
Acid Bath (MKDA)
Shoot a projectile into the acid buddah so the glass breaks, releasing the acid onto the stage. A pool of acid forms, creating a new hazard for the remainder of the fight.
Kuatan Palace (MKDA, MKD)
See Dead Pool for similar effects, except replace acid with lava.
Lava Shrine (MKDA)
See Dead Pool or Kuatan Palace
Lin Kuei Temple (MKDA)
Repeated knockdowns of fighters would make the ice weak, and therefore can be broken after time. I guess water is underneath, so if you fall through, you die.

All great ideas!
For the Living forest, simply use Kitanas fans or Kung Laos hat and those trees will come straight down!
The rest of the hazards are perfect!
I love the idea of spikes falling down from the ceiling in the Kombat Tomb and Goros Lair! The rest would all be great!
Thanks for the contributions and thanks to MrSilvers too! Great ideas on both your parts!

the subway one sounds like the ride "Earthquake" at Universal Studios Orlando.. but i loved that ride.. and id love to see the Subway redone

Oh I like that, that would be very cool! Baraka could do it too, or any fighter with a sword. They could do a quick slice to make the tree fall, awesome addtional idea tg!

No problem, man!
It was just a quick idea! I think it'd look sweet in game! Instead of aiming at the opponent you can cut the tree down instead ina n attempt to crush them, or create a barrier between you both.
How about Sub-Zero deep freezing a tree and then shattering it? That'd create a shower of frozen wood spikes maybe. And some icy, razor edged leaves.
Awesome, once again you've nailed another aspect that could greatly improve the MK experience. I'm really glad you're getting all thes threads you told me about out now. IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!
I have already shared my thoughts on these ideas with you, but I failed to mention that the "Jade's Desert" one was my fav. I would be awesome to see a sudden desert sand storm whip up out of nowhere and hinder players! Very nice ideas here Ty, as always.

A few ideas here. Great thread and all but only a few seem logical. Ok for the Desert one its cool but being that its not first person your vision won't be effected you would be able to notice it. Maybe like a dusting so the screens a lil dusted with sand would be cool. The rest is great.
The snow one its cool but falling would get old maybe if they moved to fast yes. But not everytime you slip you fall. So maybe instead you start slipping but gain balance sorta like slipping on Bo Rai CHos Puke Puddle the rest is fine too well except the cold feature. It should only effect lightly dressed ppl. Because even if you get a lil chilled moving around like in a fights gonna keep you warm as long as your not half naked lol.
Wind Stage great idea. Just a suggestion. Instead of just rocks all kinds of degree could fly at you. Each time you play this stage the storms and wind can very like you can have F zero's too F five's. Now the bigger the twister bigger the debris. Like there can be trees and building etc in the backgrounds and they can hit short of the battle or close.
Subway stage no suggestions it's perfect.
Now maybe the living forest could have a swamp and it can rain there and it can get windy and you can see trees tie together and start falling down when you get gusts of winds. Also there could be lighning strikes to cause huge fires.
Sky Teemple being that its so high lighting will strike all over the place and can hit you and take chunks of the building out.
That's all the time I have for now I gtg

Hahahahaha!!! I LOVE ITTTTT
I would kie to see the bell tower... with all the levels... and on the top level there's the bell that u can use like u use the hanging corpses... and to turn it up a notch BAM!
Top level-Bell, hole (u fall down to basement spikes)
3rd level- Armory: All kind of weapons... pours of meted metal that hurt u (like acid Buddhas) hole (like top level)
2nd level- "attic" like room, full of bugs, spiderwebs, glass, adn a huge FLAIL, Hole AGAIN
1st level- a pretty normal room, no weapons, no damage... only the hole again
Basement- Spikes, here is where u end up if u fall down the center hole in any level... if u go down through the floor from the 1st floor down to here, u can fight in a spike-less area, but at times the lights go out and u can't see anything

Nice ideas homie, i've always thought about if Jades Desert was to be remade it would have a sandstorm........that would be a perfect setting, not to mention death trap.
I'll post some of my ideas if i have time.

I think pople would appreciate these things if they were in MK. Those wanting strategic play would get it if hazards in the stages were added. I'm glad you like the idea for Jades Desert. Fighting on the actual sands rather than on a stone path would be great!
And yes, it is about time I got these threads out! lol I'm working on them!

Excellent suggestions!
For the sand storms I'm thinking the camera should change. We need more imagination with the camera. Look at a fight on screen in a movie. We need that kind of stuff in MK.
I agree fully with what you're saying for the snow effects. I said the same things in the waether Thread so didn't really elaborate here.
I also agree with the debris size idea. That's another thing I mentioned int he Weather Thread I believe.
And the rest of your ideas are grea! Nice one!
Awesome ideas Tgrant. The subway is my personal fave.
Actually, this was intended to happen in MK3.
In the Krypt of MKDA, a sketch of an helicopter crashing inside the bank arena explains how the team had planned on doing that as a special effect that would hurt the opponent.
Sadly, time didnt allowed this feature in this or other levels. I think these ideas should be put into serious thought; they can improve the game greatly.
Awesome T.

Excellent! I didn't realise they had stuff like this planned out! Hopefully they'll get to add some into MKD or MK7. I'm hoping for a lot of interaction with the surroundings in stages and this would be a great start to it.

I agree. Jade's Desert should be remade. And you're right, for realism sake, these Ideas would be appreciated if worked into the game.

Jades Desert remade would be great with these ideas. If they took the time with many other stages and updated them in some way with interactive elements, they'd be a lot more fun.
