Heres the rap, and everything else you hear that contadicts my statement here is false.
Despite what people say, you can obtain a character called Ermac. It might be a big time luck error, but bottom line you can! Im sick of people saying you cant obtain him, thats just not true, somebody should be able to back me up on this.

Yes errors occur in mk1 or in any other game for that matter, and yes its as rare as hell, 1 in a million, but it has happened.

The process of error macro has made that possible.

Im pretty sure he copies all of scorpions moves though, thats a fact.

Later on in the years back in UMK3 days, its sais in his bio that he was very well hidden in MK1. You be the judge.

Well that doesn't say anything very useful. It just repeats one of the many rumors surrounding Ermac, giving that rumor no more support then any of the others.

Outworld22 has the right idea, but I wouldn't call him 'obtainable'...he can show up, but he's not a secret fighter, it's just a glitch that happens sometimes...MKS I think was accurate on how to obtain him, I tried it on Mame and I didn't get 'Ermac' but I did get an odd screen and the game froze, it's do-able, he's in there, but he's not really anything but a glitch

Do you know what vers you were using? Double flawless with just HP doesn't do anything in vers 5.0. I wish I had access to some of the earlier releases, they are probably buggier.

He does not show up. It is a total lie. It is not a glitch. There is no Red Scorpion. It is all crap.

Anyone else that says otherwise has been convinced by RUMOUR that they have received 1000th hand.

There has never been any evidence EVER. All the pictures you have seen are fakes. I know this.

That is all there is to it.

Ugh. You people suck. Here is the skinny. In MK1, there was a glitch that would happen very VERY rarly. Scorpion would appear as red and his name would come up as ERror MACro. He had the same moves and fatality. Ermac was just a glitch. NOT a hidden character. Just later on they put him in UMK3 to mask their fuck-up in MK1. Simple as that. You people are disgraces to Ermac.

Boon even said Ermac appeared in MK1 in a GamePro mag. I think MKS brought that up.

No it was a red Scorpion. Ermac's name still said "Scorpion" in the life bar. Consider yourself lucky as one of the few to have seen him... and LIVE

I just wish there was a testable way to cause an ermac to run. The things I read seem so weird. Using just HP getting double flawless on any level of MK1 does nothing in rev 5.0. I read things saying that ermac's only appear in versions like 3.0 and 4.0 but its a glitch and seems like it should be in the earlier versions not the later. That and nobody has ever really said anything that has caused it.

I mean there were all those other glitches, like the glitched invisible Sheeva in UMK3 for SNES.

Or the Baraka Blade Spin that freezes MKT for PSX where you get the blade spin in the corner and everything stops except Baraka slides away from the corner at about 1 pixel a second.

Then there is the glitched Shang Tsung in MKT for PSX where you can make Shang Tsung permanently become classic Sub. He even stays as Sub between rounds. But, if you try to do any of Sub's special moves he goes into wobbly frames. If you try to throw your opponent Sub does his throw, the opponent rolls like he is being thrown by Shang and Sub ends up in wobbly frames again.

I have witnessed these things many times and I even have the glitchy Shang Sub on tape because when it first happened I was like "Oh Sheitze, I better tape this."

But, despite it all, ermacs are so hunted and sought after. I really think its only because of the rumors that blossomed around it if it ever happened in the first place.

There are so many other glitches that have been found without any broohaha.

They didn't put Ermac in UMK3 to cover up a mistake, they put him in to appease the fans who think he was in MK1, or wished he was. The bottom line is, he's not there, and there's no way definite way to get "him."
No one here has ever seen it for themselves, it all rides on one man named Tony Casey, he is the ONLY person on earth with evidence of Ermac. No one else has ever seen it with their own eyes, so chances are, not even the glitch that he got to see SCORPION in red is true. That is not Ermac, he was never intended on being in MK1. There is NO debating this guys. All these people come in here and say, "I know the real story behind Ermac. This is how you get him." NO. I'm sorry, you're wrong. There's no way to just "Get" Ermac, through any method of beating characters in such a manner than he appears and you fight him. IF this guy, in 1993, stumbled upon a way to get a character NAMED Ermac, then I would say it was intended. But no possible way of enabling an Ermac battle, like getting a Reptile battle, has ever been proven true. The word ERMACS appears in the game audit under Reptile battles, which is just a counter for how many times people have gotten to Reptile, ERMACS is a counter for how many times Error Macros have occured. People who were given this information created the concept on their own, that this "red" Scorpion, should be named Ermac. There is a chance, that neither of these things have anything to do with eachother. They actually fixed it so Error Macros no longer happen when they started using the T-Unit. And again, there is only one person, out of 6 billion, who has ever claimed to actually see the red ninja.
Ed Boon himself has never seen Ermac. Everything about Ermac is all coming from one guy who has nothing to do with Midway. A color glitch that is a macro error, is not a hidden character, with storyline, put in by the programmers as a hidden character to fight against when you meet certain criteria while fighting.
Ermac was named "Ermac" after the guy sent in his "picture" of it. In essence, a character created after the game was finished, that the programmers didn't know was there? No. In 1993 a guy sending in a polaroid of a red ninja in MK1, with no method of obtaining him was simply just taken at face value and published to make you say "Wow cool."
Also, has anyone ever BEATEN the MK2 Arcade Version. There are little random phrases at the bottom of the screen, sometimes it says "Where is Goro?" "Where is Sonya?" "Where is Kano?" "Who is Jade?" "Who is Smoke?" "Friendship?" Or, what seems to be encrypted messages, like SRUEP GHIH MIPTAC, which is actually SUPER HIGH IMPACT or THREE RAE ON STNIIIAAMEL or "THERE ARE NO ANIMALITIES" or EMRO BATMOK OT MEOK "MORE KOMBAT TO KOME" yeah those three were neat, and they are all true, now here's one I found kind of difficult to figure out...I dunno about you guys...

CEARM ODSE NTO EXITS

Yeah you got it without even thinking about it didn't you? What does it say? Hmmm, who could it be, who could have put that there....could it be.....SATAN? No. How about ERMAC DOES NOT EXIST. I thank you. Here is a link to an animated gif I just made of those three scrambled messages:
http://www.darktemplarz.com/mk2/scrambled.gif
I had to beat the game about 11 times in order to get that message to come up. Here come the, "I don't care what the game says, there's a picture in an EGM magazine and Ed Boon calls it Ermac so it's Ermac baby."

On a side note, there is a girl from Turkey who goes to my old highschool, and her name, is Ermac. Yes spelled Ermac.

She is also not in MK1, contrary to popular belief.

okay, how about this: someone very profiecient with the game can play MK1 and see if he can prove, or disprove, whether or nor ermac is there.
What a way to settle the controversy, no?

And what do all of those messages have to do with? MK2. So yeah, Ermac does NOT exist...in MK2.

Knowing how Boon & Co. think ahead of time, my guess is that their desire to turn Ermac into a playable/fightable character was already in their heads (in a future game to please the fans) by the time they decided to put MK2 in the arcades.

They didn't decide to make Ermac a character until UMK3, and didn't even think of the idea on their own. Wow just stop. You'll never ever in a trillion years prove that he exists. The phrase "ERMAC DOES NOT EXIST" means just that. He doesn't exist. The rumors for Ermac were flying when the EGM published the pic. That was there way of saying "Get over it".

We'll prove it if we can get FatSatan or someone with a copy of the mag with Ed Boon saying he actually does appear. And don't discredit the fucking creator of the game, it pisses me off to no end when people do that. Maybe during another fight night we can ask.

CEARM ODSE NTO EXITS

That is all you need to worry about. Not EGM magazine, not some guy with a polaroid camera. It's all about

CEARM ODSE NTO EXITS

That means, Ermac does not exist for those of you who missed it the first time. Not that Ermac doesn't exist in MK2, that Ermac doesn't exist, and up until 1994, he didn't. Case is closed. It's like looking for a dry spot in the ocean.

I will not believe that he is in MK1 until you can provide me with a way to obtain him manually, in fact I probably have that EGM. A video game magazine does not prove the existance of a rumored hidden character in a game. 99% of people who doubt the existance of Ermac in MK1 will agree that is far from proof. "Here it is! Here is my Bible! The living proof of the Lord and Savior Ermac Christ! He is real! Boon the Prophet even says so!"

No. Stop kidding yourself, you're never going to see him in the game. Ever. That's a video game magazine pushing a rumor that isn't true. Ed Boon probably said, "ERMACS exist in early versions MK1", not, "Ermac, a character we created to be fought against, exists in MK1 as a hidden character."
