There is so much going on with Sub-Zero's storyline that it is impossible to fit in Armageddon. Obviously it will be a battle between Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot. Sub-Zero's story won't end at MKA, I will bet money that Noob Saibot will be the main boss of MK8. Therefore, in MKA,
all the other characters involved (takes too long to name them all) will be picking sides.

We all know Sub-Zero will never leave MK. There is a good reason why he will never and why he is a fan favorite. He is probably the most developed character in the history of MK. The most appealing factor of Sub-Zero is his storyline, hands down. Without it, he might be one of the bottom characters today. But just think of all the connections he holds with so many characters:

Ashrah: A potential alley in facing Noob Saibot, Frost, Quan Chi, Shinnok, and many other deadly foes of the Netherealm. Think about how much she has traversed this realm and how much knowledge she holds. This could be of much use to Sub-Zero. If she does not stay a loner, I can she her helping to bring down Noob Saibot and help released Smoke from his captor. Then, with the Kriss, I believe she can have both of them expelled from Hell and back on Earthrealm in time to stop the destruction of reality.

Baraka: Sub-Zero basically finished off the last of Baraka's troops. If Baraka does not get involved with Bo' Rai Cho or Mileena for the most part, I can see some vengeance coming his way. Could Baraka possibly lead Sub-Zero to Onaga and destroy the threat of the One Being?

Frost: If everybody thinks what will come true, Frost will become a major threat to the Lin Kuei. If indeed she does come under Noob Saibot's control, it could pose for some interesting conflicts. Does Sub-Zero really care for her that much, or does he just see her as another obstacle in his way? It would even be more interesting if another big rumor, Frost being Noob and Sub-Zero's sister, comes true. Torn between family and life, what would our master over coldness choose?

Hotaru: Last seen, Hotaru was employed by Onaga to take down Sub-Zero. Doubtful that he actually achieved his goal, what role will he play this time? Does he know that the formation of the Komidogu will end the realms he so desperately wants to give order over, or will he be blidnly lead to his death? I see a possibility that he will be reverted to the side of good and help bring Onaga to justice he so vainly wants with the help of Sub. That is, if Dairou does not reach him first... tongue

Kenshi: Kenshi is still lost in god knows where know, but with the help of Sub-Zero he may be able to find his way. Sub-Zero managed to save his life. Will Kenshi stick around to return the favor, or go his seperate ways?

Mavado: It was posed that the Lin Kuei was a threat to the establishment of the Red Dragon. With this in mind, does Mavado have intentions to bring Sub down? Although I highly doubt it, a pact could be formed between the Tekunin and the Red Dragon, since they both have a common foe. But for now, I think Mavado has plently of things to take care of with the Black Dragon and the Special Forces.

Noob Saibot: After a stunning somewhat conclusive MK:D ending, we have a really good twist on our hands here. With brother vs. brother, things may get real interesting. Especially when you bring Frost into the picture, your best friend a slave to him, and a possibilty of another cybernetic army after you. I really hope to see a climatic battle between the two. Maybe with many involved, maybe one on one. All I know is that Smoke deserves to be freed of his grasps, and Noob needs to be taken to down in a spectacular finish, making the Netherealm a somewhat better place.

Sareena: This former demon's intentions are shrouded in mystery. What role will she play this game? Could she maybe be a spy for Noob Saibot? If she isn't what will happen if they meet again? Could she have to choose between the two men her life revolves around? Or could she truly be a help to the Lin Kuei? All I know is that her and Asrah or Frost need to get in a nasty cat fight. grin

Scorpion: We thought these two were done with, but with Noob thrown into the mix, these two hard-felt fighters may have to become friends once more to take down a big threat. Scorpion knows he is partly responsible for the creation of Noob. Will he have time between beating Quan Chi to death and saving the realms to possible get involved in this?

Sektor: From what we last heard of, the Tekunin seems to have gotten rather large. With the power Sektor has, an attack on the Lin Kuei is emminent. He could possible make connections with the Red Dragon for assisstance, or could handle it on his own. Either way, something will go down. I hope to see a four way fight between Sektor, Smoke, Cyrax, and Sub too (only hoping!)

Smoke: Long time no see old buddy. With another personal conflict in Smoke, will Sub just pretend that he isn't the person he once was, or does Sub see a soul still inside of him. Hopefully Smoke can be released for the possession of Noob and assist on the side of good once more.

A small addition is Hsu Hao. Mavado would probably send Hsu Hao to go after Sub-Zero as an assignment. Chances are unlikely though, since Hsu Hao has to deal with Jax.

Sub-Zero definitely has his hands full this time around.

Hotaru seems to be specifically hunting down Sub-Zero more than anybody else, I read an interesting theory by a user named ErmacMk5 that could explain this reason. Could Hotaru have been told by Onaga about Sub-Zero’s cyromancer ancestry? Could the past cyromancers have posed a dangerous threat to Onaga’s rule and could they have almost risen up and just about took over his kingdom? Hotaru sides with order reguardless of consequence, Onaga has claimed once he makes the one realm, all will have peace. Maybe Hotaru felt that what Sub-Zero learned about his ancestry in the ancient ruins was about to turn Sub-Zero’s focus primarily on Onaga. And with the armor giving Sub-Zero much more power than before, Hotaru probably wants to end Sub-Zero at all costs.

This could have also been why the tarkatans, which are Onaga’s loyal servants felt the need to attempt to kill Sub-Zero in the living forest. Or depending on how old the tarkatans are, maybe some of them actually remembered the threat the cyromaners have played in the past. I’m betting the tarkatans yelled out “long live the dragon king” because they felt Sub-Zero was about to end the rule of Onaga.

Then there is Frost, Sub-Zero’s once loyal pupil. Frost has become very power hungry wanting to seize control over the Lin Kuei. So she attempted to take Sub-Zero’s amulet, but it engulfed her in ice by the sheer power of it. Through Frost’s point of view, she wakes up in a grave and sees that Sub-Zero wanted her dead. She probably believes Sub-Zero doesn’t want her to ever become powerful, and she probably views him as the power hungry bastard. It seems like Frost is going to be fuming this time around, she could possibly side with whoever wants him dead.

One of Sub-Zero’s most dangerous threats comes from a former ally. Noob Saibot, the man that was his close brother transfored into an evil demon wraith. This battle definitely is going to be the toughest for Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero is probably going to attempt to turn Noob Saibot back to being good. But since Noob Saibot has no emotions or compassion he will remain evil and probably make the first strike to attempt to put Sub-Zero out. Sub-Zero is going to have to realize there is no saving Noob Saibot, and that his brother is no more. The demon that Noob Saibot now is has completely consumed his brother’s every thought.

Something that could finally work right in Sub-Zero’s favor is Smoke shorting out and regaining his conscience. Smoke is not evil by choice, he is being controlled. In Noob Saibot’s ending, it stated Smoke instantly recognized Sub-Zero which means somewhere deep down he remembers their past. Half of the endings never come true, but the content in them almost always does. If Smoke does regain his being, he will become a dangerous opponent for Noob Saibot and a great ally to Sub-Zero.

Sektor may not have emotions, but in his memory he may remember his original programming of tracking down and killing Sub-Zero. He has been reprogrammed by Sub-Zero in the past to aid him, but when a couple of screws became loose and Sektor went berserk, who knows what his programming has picked up. When Sektor lost the grand master status, that was the last straw, after conquering Japan and building an immense Tekunin army, Sektor is going to create massive destruction.

Not to mention Sub-Zero also has Sareena currently living in the Lin Kuei temple, this may have not been a wise move when Sareena learns the truth about who Noob Saibot really is. But it could have also been a hidden blessing, maybe Sareena will take care of the now very angry Frost from getting close to Sub-Zero.

I hope Frost will understand Mr. Sub. grin But if it is ture that Sub-Zero and Frost are sibling....It will make the story most interesting.

As for the next gen, if Sub doesn't make it and Frost stay good and Sub makes Frost the next Grand Master, she might replace Sub. However, with the all that confuse on Frost mind, Sub might have a child and it might replace himwow

Frost seems to lean more towards evil. I don't think she could ever replace Sub-Zero. I really hope that Sub-Zero and Frost aren't related.

If Frost and Sub-Zero ever turn out related in any way, shape, or form (I better not hear that they're cousins), then I'd be very annoyed and ask Vogel for a gram of whatever he smokes/sniffed.

? The Dragon Medallion increases its wielder's physical strength, fighting abilities, and special abilities. In Sub-Zero's case, he can manipulate cold and stuff like that so the Dragon Medallion increased his Kori powers.

Sub has a brother (Noob) and a sister he never met. It is possible that Frost is his long lost sister and possible a replacement forSub in a next gen. Not that I'm in favor for it. I really want Sub to stay.

Sister he never met? That's not quite true. It's just that he doesn't really remember his sister as both he and his brother were taken away from their mother and sister a long time ago.
Like I said, I hope Sub-Zero and Frost aren't related. And why would Frost be a possible replacement for Sub-Zero in the next-gen? Are you saying that because they both have the same powers? If so, I hate to break it to you, but that's not a good enough reason. It kind of reminds me of an episode of Sex and the City in which Charlotte tries to hook up her gay guy friend with Carrie's gay guy friend since they're both gay. It just doesn't work like that.

Just want to say thanks to Sub-Zero_7th for writing the Sub-Zero biography. Now, onto the Kung Lao!
Kung Lao is a direct descendent to the Great Kung Lao, the monk who defeated Shang Tsung in the tournament, and later, lost to Shang Tsung’s pupil, Prince Goro. Kung Lao seems to be the only survivor after Baraka and his henchmen destroyed the Shaolin Temple and everyone inside it, but based on his ending, it implies that he was a former Shaolin Monk and then joined the White Lotus society, which means that he wasn’t at the temple when the attack took place. In any case, after he sees what happened, he decides to join Liu Kang and the other Earthrealm warriors in Shao Kahn’s contest.
After Liu Kang defeats Shao Kahn, Kung Lao plans to reform the White Lotus society, but of course, Shao Kahn ruins his pans for doing that and steals the souls of everyone on Earth except for the Chosen Warriors. Kung Lao is one of these warriors, and helps in the battle against Shao Kahn’s deadliest kombatants.
Kung Lao attempts to defeat Shao Kahn by himself, and after his apparent death, Liu Kang becomes enraged and takes on Shao Kahn and defeats him once again.
Later on, we learn that Kung Lao not only survived his encounter with Shao Kahn, he also turned over a new leaf, in an attempt to return to his former Shaolin Monk beliefs, and renounce violence. But his plans to do this are disturbed when he learns of Shinnok’s threat, and the apparent return of Prince Goro; Kung Lao uses this to finally challenge his ancestor’s murderer to Mortal Kombat. When he finally has his chance to confront Goro (who’s with Kitana and discussing terms of a peace treaty), he simply slashes at Goro’s chest with his hat as a ceremonial strike of revenge, and the two get to talking, and actually settle their differences; if only Scorpion and Sub-Zero could’ve been so open-minded to talking, rather than fighting. tongue
Years later, Kung Lao comes to the Wu Shi academy, to find Liu Kang’s corpse on the ground. He learns from Raiden that Shang Tsung killed Liu Kang, and he renounces his peace-keeping ways. He searched for Liu Kang’s trainer, Bo’ Rai Cho, to learn Liu Kang’s fighting techniques to defeat Shang Tsung once and for all, and when he felt he was ready, went with Bo’ Rai Cho, and the Earthrealm warriors to Outworld to fight against the Deadly Alliance’s forces.
Kung Lao’s fate finally caught up to him in Mortal Kombat Deception, as he, Jax, Sonya, Kitana, and Johnny Cage were killed before even reaching Shang Tsung and Quan Chi; to make matters worse, once Onaga had returned, he revived the aforementioned warriors and made them his personal bodyguards. As of the beginning of MK: D, Kung Lao is Onaga’s servant, and until MK Armageddon explains the canon events of MK: D, that’s how he’ll remain.
Kung Lao could’ve taken the place of Liu Kang as the new champion, but now that Liu Kang’s back as a spirit/zombie/human, Kung Lao may end up taking a back-seat once again. In all honesty, I think that he should become the new Grand Champion, and allow Liu Kang to retire. I want to see Kung Lao live up to his full potential, even if it means he survives Armageddon to do it. Let him lead the White Lotus society and be the next hero.

Reading this made me see how much Kung Lao's story is actually messed up! Kung Lao is a much cooler character than Liu and should definitely make it to the next gen to really enhance his story some more. Right now it doesn't seem that too much is going on for him:

Goro: Kung Lao is probably very upset about him switching sides once more and betraying Kitana. He knows the Prince isn't worthy of living another day and should've killed him when he had the chance. This time around, I think Kung Lao is probably gonna give him more than a scratch.

Shang Tsung/Quan Chi: We don't know who killed who, but you can be sure Kung Lao would like to destroy both of them, especially Tsung. I don't really think he'll have a chance at them, however. To many people already want a piece of him and have more important stories to deal with them.

Onaga: I don't know about anyone else, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be controlled by some other person. Kung Lao probably feels a bit used being possessed and all, but it think the same case will be with Onaga as with Tsung and Chi - too many people are after him with better reason.

I'm actually a bit disappointed with him just looking at. He definitely needs some more involvement in the story in the future.

Kung Lao hasn't had much of a storyline. He was more of a minor character in some ways, but in MKDA, he was a more major character for a change. I personally like Kung Lao more than Liu Kang. I was thinking of a story concept that could be for an alternate universe story in which Kung Lao was the type of warrior that respected and followed tradition while Liu Kang was more modern and there would be a clash between the two, not really a rivalry but just not much of a like of one another due to such differences. However, the two would eventually learn from each other and become like brothers.

Anyhoo, I don't think Kung Lao should exactly be the Champion of Mortal Kombat. He seemed to show no interest in such, and I think it's due to the consequences such as having the responsibility of constantly trying to defend Earthrealm as well as never getting old and watching friends and family die and also having to be unattached.

I think it would be cool to see Kung Lao in the next-gen MK's as an older man, being a mentor/teacher type to perhaps the main hero or something.

For MK: Armageddon, however, I think he should focus on characters like Goro. He should find out about Goro's siding with Shao Kahn and should take down the Shokan prince once and for all.

Anyhoo, I guess that's all I have to say here. Btw, no problem Jerrod. glasses
What I think about kung lao's storyline should be like...Kung lao turns his back on erthrealm and join shao khan's forces and started gathering informations from liu kang and such...Liu Kang doesn't kno that kung lao has turned evil so then as soon as khan has all the information he had needed khan and his forces should attack earthrealm villages and the tarkatans should be searching for kang and raiden.then kung lao battle against eachother until defeat then the champion of the defeat (kung lao) could be the assistant ruler of outworld.

I would find it interesting if Kung Lao turned his attention to Liu Kang, and tries to deal with defeating the undead zombie of his fallen friend wrecking havoc all over the place. That is if Raiden didn’t already reunite his body and spirit. It would really play a conflict within Kung Lao, would he actually be able to kill the shell of his closest friend he’s ever had? And if he actually finds the willpower to defeat Liu Kang, what would Liu Kang be thinking? Would he be thankful, would he accept it because his body was up to no good and had to be destroyed, or would he despise Kung Lao?

Or is Kung Lao himself dealing with the traumatic side effects of once being undead? Maybe Kung Lao will step back and revaluate his life so far. With the coming of Armageddon, will Kung Lao still have the same amount of pride that he normally does? Along with his strong believes and values? If they fail everything they have ever done could be pointless, maybe his being dead experience has opened another side to Kung Lao. This could have made him a changed man.

The deception time period seemed to be the strongest blow to the good side yet, almost everything that happened including Raiden’s personality change favored the villains. What will Kung Lao thoughts be of the drastic changes in his mentor, him and the other chosen ones are probably going to feel like it is very risky to even be around Raiden.

As cool as I think Kung Lao is, I hope he doesn’t defeat Goro. Like Goro said in MKG, if he didn’t kill Kung Lao’s ancestor, it would’ve been Goro that died. That would be quite a twist if Goro became victorious again with the Lao family. I also think Goro has a much better chance of staying around than Kung Lao.

There is a chance he’ll run into Baraka again, after all it was the Tarkata being lead by Baraka that attacked the Shaolin temples, killing many shaolin monks in the mk2 period. Plus with his most recent mentor Bo Rai Cho fending off the tarkatan hordes, it seems like a good reason for Kung Lao to kick some tarkatan ass.

For some reason, I don’t think Kung Lao will even get the chance at Shang Tsung/Quan Chi or Onaga. Many others want them dead and like most of the games, Kung Lao will probably be last in line. I also don’t think Kung Lao will get to become the big hero in this game, he’s had far more than enough time to accomplish that. I’ll be very surprised if he comes out with a hero ending.
I doubt Kung Lao will become the next main hero (it appears this Taven will fill that role in MK:A) but I hope he at least settles his buisness with Goro once and for all and then either retires or dies a hero's death. Either one.

Long Way to talk about Kung Lao:

Kung Lao is great gameplaywise. His teleport, and double teleport in MKT were one of the best ways to tick opponents, and get away from attacks. his dive attack also allowed a counter during a teleport, and it could back enemies away when they followed you. His hat is my favorite Projectile in the game (excluding trap moves.) That whirlwind kick in MKD was alright. He has average fatalities. Best friendship.

Storywise is sorta....stupid. He's the side kick of the heroes. He became a hero in one game, then gets killed off and Shujinko takes his place. Kung lao wants "peace" which is boring. Let him avenge his ancestor and kill Goro.

Short way: He's f**king awsome

I always liked Kung Lao. I liked that he always seemed reluctant to be the hero or champion....sort of like Aragorn in Lord of the Rings. Everyone expects him to be the leader and hero, but he just doesn't want to be.

With Liu Kang's death in MK:DA, it seemed like we might get the first step towards Kung Lao being forced to be the hero. I think it would've been cool had they run with that and set Kung Lao up as the next main Shaolin monk. His brooding nature and reluctance to fight would've made for a more interesting hero than Liu Kang, IMO.

Unfortunately, they went and cut Kung Lao's nuts off by having him defeated and killed by Shang Tsung and enslaved by Onaga just in time for Liu Kang to come back from the dead. Since they're looking to wrap things up in Armageddon, it seems Kung Lao's chances of taking up slack as the next main Shaolin monks are slim to none.

So with Kung Lao apparently out of the running for the main hero, what is he to do?

I think in Armageddon, Kung Lao's defeat/death/enslavement should be a major factor. By failing to defeat Shang Tsung, despite Bo' Rai Cho's training could screw with Kung Lao's confidence. He could see it as confirmation that he is not a hero or a leader. I never saw Kung Lao as a very upbeat or optimistic character, so this could be a problem for him.

But, then Kung Lao can find a chance to redeem himself when he learns of Goro. Disgusted that Goro broke his alliance with Kitana and is serving Shao Kahn again, Kung Lao can make it his mission to finish off Goro once and for all. By succeeding where his ancestor had failed, Kung Lao can regain his sense of self-worth and finally prove himself.

What happens after? I'm thinking Kung Lao's going to survive, but retire. By killing Goro and avenging his ancestor and regaining his honor, Kung Lao can finally retire in peace as he's always wanted. Perhaps he can then become a trainer for future generations of warriors, sort of like Bo' Rai Cho.

There are quite a few names I have seen talked about here with regards to who the main protagonist should be after MKA: Ermac, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Liu Kang, but this is the first mention of Kung Lao. I like the idea of Kung Lao becoming Grand Champion and being the new hero of the game. It would definitely do him justice after taking the back seat to Liu Kang and the more popular characters for all these years and games. Anyway, I would like him to kill Shang Tsung and exact revenge, or he could go a different route and take down Goro. I'm sure whatever the MK team does with Kung Lao's story will be better than the crap from MKD. I was so happy when I watched Kung Lao's ending in MKDA, I was like "Yea! Kick his ass!" but it didn't happen. sad

Oh well, here's hoping Kung Lao whips some ass in MKA.

I just came up with a different angle to Kung Lao's story...

What if Raiden went crazy, and Kung Lao fought with him? I'm sure it would be quite an entertaining fight, and the possibility of that kind of feud happening is intriguing to me.

Okay, I was told it's time to start the next character so here we go:

Kitana

Kitana is the Princess of Edenia and daughter of Jerrod and Sindel. Shortly after her birth about 10,000 years ago, Edenia was conquered by Shao Kahn through the Mortal Kombat tournament. The realm was merged with Outworld, Jerrod was killed by Kahn himself, and Sindel was taken as his bride.

Kitana was adopted by Kahn and to be raised as his own daughter. With Sindel's suicide, his influence on the girl was unchecked. Kitana grew up dutifully loyal to Kahn, believing him to be her true father. She received combat training and grew up to be one of his personal assassins. At some time in her life, she was introduced to Mileena whom she was told was her twin sister.

At some point somewhat recently, Kitana finally discovered the truth about her family, Edenia, and how Mileena is her actually her clone. Appalled, disgusted, and devastated that her whole life had been a lie, Kitana vowed to do all in her power to overthrow Shao Kahn and restore Edenia to its former beauty.

She continued to feign loyalty to Kahn until an opportunity presented itself. Kitana's chance finally came when Earth's warriors were lured into Outworld to fight in a tournament. Kitana entered, but secretly came into contact with one of the Earth fighters...most likely Liu Kang...to form an alliance. However, her efforts were discovered by Mileena who then attacked Kitana for her betrayal. They fought and Kitana was victorious, killing Mileena.

Mileena's murder unmasked Kitana as a traitor to Shao Kahn and she was put on trial for treason by the High Courts of Outworld. But Kitana escaped during Outworld's invasion of Earth where she learned her mother had been resurrected by Shao Kahn and turned into his loyal bride. Kitana swore she would save her mother from Kahn's evil and set out to join the Earth warriors for their aide.

During Kitana's jounrey she found herself under attack by assassins Kahn sent to capture her. One of them being Jade, a childhood friend. Fortunately Jade decided to turn on Kahn as well and assisted Kitana in fending off her assassins. Kitana eventually found her mother and helped her regain her memories and escape Shao Kahn's control.

Shao Kahn was defeated by Liu Kang and Earth returned to normal. After personally thanking Liu Kang, Kitana returned to Outworld with Sindel and Jade to begin restoring Edenia. She discovered the orb that bound Edenia to Outworld and shattered, at last freeing the realm. With Edenia freed, Kitana and her people began rebuilding the realm.

However, the peace was short-lived as Edenia was later invaded by the fallen Elder God Shinnok with the help of the traitor Tanya. Kitana, along with Sindel and many others, was captured and held prisoner. Fortunately Kitana managed to escape, unknown to her at the time, with Mileena's help. She rejoined with her old Earthrealm allies and fought against Shinnok's forces to save Edenia.

At some point, Kitana was again confronted by Mileena, but she would again best her "sister." But rather than have her killed, Kitana had her secretly imprisoned...perhaps in the hope Mileena can someday be reformed. After Shinnok's defeat, Kitana proposed to Liu Kang...whom she had developed feelings for. However Kang reluctantly rejected her offer, telling her his place was on Earth as Champion of Mortal Kombat.

Kitana returned to restoring Edenia while at the same time trying to ensure peace in Outworld, negotiating a truce between the Shokan and the Centaur. However around this time, Kitana learned that Shao Kahn had survived his defeat on Earth. Hoping to take advantage of Kahn's weakened condition, Kitana forged an alliance with Goro and the Shokan and attacked what was left of Kahn's forces in a pre-emptive strike.

After much battle, victory seemed to be at hand when Kitana and Goro's armies found themselves in a stalemate with the last of Kahn's armies being led by Kano. Tragedy struck when Goro was apparently killed during one of the battles...with Kitana staying by his side until he died.

Shockingly, shortly afterward word spread that Shao Kahn had been killed by some unknown assassins. For a moment, it seemed Kitana would finally be able to return home only for her forces to suddenly be attacked by a small army of undead creatures. Kitana was then met by Kung Lao who told her of the Deadly Alliance of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. She then learned that they had already managed to killed Shao Kahn and Liu Kang.

Although heartbroken by news of Liu Kang's death, Kitana joined with Kung Lao to receive training by master Bo' Rai Cho so she could fight the Deadly Alliance as well. At some point, Kitana also managed to attend Goro's funeral in the Kuatan Palace.

Kitana joined with her old Earthrealm allies in an assault on Shang Tsung's Palace. Unfortunately, they were all defeated and killed...it was implied in Kitana's Konquest that she faced Quan Chi one-on-one. However after their deaths, the five warriors were resurrected by Onaga the Dragon King and placed under a powerful spell that made them all his loyal slaves.

Kitana assisted Onaga in an invasion of Edenia...she herself used to capture and imprison her own mother. Fortunately, Sindel was freed by Jade who managed to force Kitana into a prison cell of her own and escaped into Outworld. When last we left Kitana, she was still under Onaga's control. According to the first half of her Unchained bio, Kitana has apparently already killed in his name. What becomes of her next remains to be see in the rest of her Unchained storyline and Armageddon.

________________________________

Kitana's always been one of my top favorite characters and IMO, she has the best storyline in Mortal Kombat. Hopefully her story in Armageddon will do her justice whether it's her last game or not. I do think she should probably retire here. She's had a good run and her story is set up in a good position to end with good closure.

First of all, we should consider what will happen or be revealed in Unchained. She's already killed in Onaga's name, so the question is who and how will the consequences of her actions affect her? I always said, since Kitana was once loyally served Shao Kahn, Onaga turning her evil again should be a big thing for her. She'd be wondering if Onaga merely took over mind, or exploited the evil in her soul.

Going into Armageddon, Kitana has a handful of problems with her. One is whatever trauma she's feeling about being killed and used as Onaga's slave. Then there's Shao Kahn who's still alive...Goro, whom she trusted as an ally, is working for him again...and finally Mileena has usurped her idenity and taken control of her armies.

Kitana has good reason to be after Goro and had this not been the grand finale game, I'd say she should. However, I think Goro should be Kung Lao's problem while Kitana focuses on bigger things that tie more personally to her.

I don't think Mileena should be her main concern in this game. Mileena never was Kitana's focus, another fight with her would be a waste, and killing Mileena would bring her no closure. Also, I can't see it being very hard for Kitana to take back control of the Edenian forces. Unless Mileena has them under some magic spell or found a way to cure her face, all Kitana has to do is find her army and go "Hey guys...that's not me."

Proper closure for Kitana's story would be for her to finally let go of the sins of her past and live in peace. To finally earn her redemption. How can she do this? The answer lies in Shao Kahn's death.

The souls of the people she killed while she was loyal to Kahn were most likely absorbed by him. Therefore, the souls of the people she killed are not yet at peace. So by killing Kahn and releasing those souls, she will finally enable them to rest in peace. Also by killing Shao Kahn, she will have avenged the death of her father, the ruination of her realm, and revenge against him for turning her into a killer. Not to mention, with Kahn's death, he will never pose a threat to Edenia again. She will therefore finally make peace with herself. Not only would this give Kitana proper closure to her storyline, but I think it'd also be fitting. That Kahn will finally be taken down by the step-daughter he spared and raised. Bitter irony at it's finest.

I also think having Kitana going after Shao Kahn would put her in an interesting underdog position...something lacking in yet another battle with Mileena. While still not at full strength, Kahn should still be more powerful than Kitana. And also, he is her step-father and she grew up with him. She might be terrified of him. Will her skills be enough to finally overcome her step-father?

And going back to Onaga's control. As she faces Kahn, she could be haunted by the years she served him. Confronting Shao Kahn would then in a way be like confronting her own inner demons since Kahn is the one who made her into a killer in the first place.

That in addition to her overcoming her fear of Kahn himself and the fact he's more powerful than her....makes for a damn good story, IMO.

In her ending, she can have overcome the man who's haunted and ruined her life and destroyed him for good. Then as the souls leave his body, she can maybe see her true father Jerrod for the first...and last...time. Having freed herself of the demons and burdens of her past, Kitana could at last return to Edenia and retire from fighting.
I think if this is Kitana's last game, she's earned a happy ending.

Now, if this isn't Kitana's last game and she's going to return after Armageddon....I think something cataclysmic should happen to Edenia. The "princess defending Edenia" bit has gotten stale and it's time for Kitana to evolve again. I'd be interested in seeing what Kitana would do and where she would go if her life fell apart for a second time. If Edenia went into ruin, in the next gen we could see her trying to pick up the pieces of her life and finding a new direction.
Could be cool.

So to sum up...Kitana should be after Shao Kahn, to destroy him once and for all and free herself of the burdens of her past. Even if this isn't her last game, let this be the end of the the "Shao Kahn is ruining my life" era of her story. And if it isn't her last game, Edenia should burn so she can start anew in the next generation.
