Uh... I'm not so sure about MKDA... AFAIK Tobias left the team when they already started to work on the fifth MK game. That means that the plot and most of the characters were probably already outlined at this point. All Vogel had to do was to add some finishing touches. And as for Vogel stating that Sub and Frost are not related,I think that it's either an idea that developed after the release of MKDA,or it's simply Vogel trying to save such juicy bits of storyline for later.
Well, whatever. I still say that Frost and Sub being siblings will be a solid plot twist that would explain a lot. Guess we'll just have to wait and watch.
Yeah we will, but now it's time to discuss Raiden's story. This was written mostly by Jerrod, but I added in a few touches to it, fixed a few typos took out a sentence and added in first war with Shinnok information.

Raiden

Raiden was assigned to protect the realm of Earth by the Elder Gods, as its God of Thunder. When Earth was young, the former Elder God known as Shinnok tried to take the realm for himself, Raiden fought back and Earth was plunged into centuries of darkness.

Shinnok drew his power from a magical amulet; as long as Shinnok had the amulet he would be invincible, Raiden was forced to destroy the budding civilization of Zaterra, who migrated to another world, but in doing so, he managed to steal the amulet from Shinnok and with the Elder Gods’ help; trapped Shinnok in the bowels of the Netherrealm.

Raiden for some reason, could not destroy the amulet and hid it inside the Temple of Elements, assigning the Gods of Wind, Earth, Water and Fire to guard it. Many years later, the temple was invaded by a Lin Kuei assassin known as Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei warrior defeated the four Gods; allowing the sorcerer Quan Chi to steal the amulet and take it to Shinnok in the Netherrealm.

Raiden belittled Sub-Zero and ordered him to go into the Netherrealm to undo his mistake, but Raiden could not go for he would be powerless in the dreaded realm. Sub-Zero successfully retrieved the amulet; (though it was actually a fake) but asked Raiden about there being evil in his soul. Raiden told Sub-Zero that it was true and only he could change his ways.

Raiden was first invited to the Mortal Kombat Tournament by Shang Tsung himself; being a God, he had to enter the tournament in the form of a human. During the tournament, he guided Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade to save Earth. He was also the only witness to Scorpion’s retributive murder of Sub-Zero.

After Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung, Raiden watched Baraka's minions slaughter the Shaolin Monks to lure Liu Kang and the other Earth warriors into another torunament. After warning the remaining members of the Shaolin Tournament, Raiden soon disappeared, believed to have ventured into the Outworld alone.*

When Shao Kahn managed to merge Outworld with Earthrealm by reuniting with his queen, Sindel, Raiden found himself banished from the realm. Without the aide of his fellow Gods and Elder Gods, he became a mortal once again and leads Earth's warriors against Shao Kahn.

After Liu Kang defeats Shao Kahn, Shinnok escapes from the Netherrealm and has his Brothers of the Shadow face off against the gods and Elder Gods themselves, leaving Raiden as one of the last Gods of Earth. He resurrected Johnny Cage to help in the battle**, and when Liu Kang successfully defeats Shinnok, Raiden is promoted to Elder God, and leaves Fujin, the God of Wind, as his successor.

When the Deadly Alliance emerged and killed off Liu Kang, Raide realized that they would be a powerful force to deal with, but the Elder Gods simply ignored him. Enraged, he relinquished his status, returned to Earth, informed the Earthrealm warriors of Liu Kang and Shao Kahn's deaths, the alliance between Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, and led them all to Outworld to fight them to the death.

The Earthrealm warriors Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Jax Briggs, and their ally Kitana were all killed in the battle against the Deadly Alliance's Tarkatan Army, and Raiden himself was defeated by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Miraculously (he is a God anyway), Raiden regains consciousness to see Shang and Quan blasting Onaga, who has returned to reclaim Outworld; however, not even the combined might of Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi is able to out-match Onaga's brute force.

To try and destroy Onaga, Raiden self-destructs, destroying the palace, and everything in it... Except for Onaga, who laughed it off with Quan Chi's amulet in hand.

Raiden reformed on Earthrealm, learning about everything that had transpired, and realizing Shujinko's mistake in helping "Damashi". Raiden returns as a new God of Thunder, and will no longer tolerate the stupidities of mortals. All will fear the new Thunder God...

*NOTE: This doesn't take MK: Shaolin Monks into account, as people consider it to be non-canon.

**This was retconned.

As for my thoughts, Raiden's been a favorite of mine, but I'm glad they won't the Dark Raiden route, he was fine as the Protector of Earth but he needed something different. (I read originally he wasn't intended to be in MK:D) But I have a feeling that the One Being might be using Raiden to an extent, hell Raiden may even become the physical form of the One Being itself. However, I have a feeling that Raiden's going to sacrifice himself at the end of this game to stop the big evil which will allow Fujin to take his place in the next-generation as Earth's protector.

Just my thoughts.

Raiden was one of my favorites, and still is. He has great special moves, my favorite combos, and MKD made his story interesting. He's no longer god who advises ad does nothing! He's now god who kills if you do wrong! Can't wait to see what they do with him in MKA

Hi, i'm new at this so if my approach or ideas are unsuitable please let me know, i appologise in advance if anything i say is wrong information....

I'd like to throw a way to combine the story's already discussed with the one currently being discused out there. I've always been somewhat of a Raiden fan, and i've enjoyed the way that he was developed as a good guy instead of the way he was original intended to be as a bad guy in his MK1 ending. However it seems that he's taking that dark road again with his ending in desception, this can be an amazing way to start the new generation with the reinvention of raiden as the central point. My idea would be for Raiden to be confronted about his new harsh attitude by Fujin( who hasn't really contributed to the story sence he became the new guardian of earthrealm). This then could be one of the main battles in Armageddon's storyline and provide an excellent good versus evil conflict for the new generation to start on. I know it might seem drastic to see Raiden as a bad guy but it would be a great way to keep the character in the series and a lot more interesting that just having him become an elder god again. The confrontation between Raiden and Fujin could result in Fujin becoming a strong force of good for the next generation and establish him as a signifigant character. With good winning over evil(as it always seems to do) we would have Fujin as the next generations Raiden. With Raiden being as powerfull as he is he would obviously have to be banished, or as i would like to see, traped in the Netherrealm. This would then lead to raiden and Noob/the original subzero to join up and create a new evil force, allowing for characters like shinnok and quan chi to be killed off in the story and creat room for new character while keeping old favorites alive in the next generation.

Scorpion can fit into this aswell. In armageddon i'd love to see him get his revenge, preferably killing quan chi first whoi've givin a valid reason to be killed off in the story line. I'd like to see his want for revenge as a way to get out of the role of elder gods champion and therefore show just how much of a rebel he is. Scorpions business with noob for killing him is kinda an eye for an eye right now, with the both of them being dead they cant really kill each other again and they're already an even 1 and 1 when it comes to fighting each other to the death, i see that going too ways, after being let go by the eldergods and becoming his rebel self again and killing quan chi for the death of his family and clan scorpion could:
1:go his own way and continue wandering the netherrealm much like he has for the whole series and remain as the specter we all know and love for the next generation. With the nether realm potential ruled by noob( and in my version raiden) Noob could show him respect and be ninja like letting him go his own way and leavethe next generation with some juice backstory's.
2:scorpion could be released from his seemingly never ending limbo after getting his revenge(even tho this apparently contradicts his original story line) by superior sorcery on the part of the side of good for aiding them in the destruction of the series vilians( quan chi.shinnok, shang tsung etc.). This would allow him to be reunite with his family.

Like i said i'm new at this, sorry if my ideas didnt suit the topic of discussion or you just didnt like em, if you did like them i've got a lot of ideas for almost every character and would like to keep sharing them.
Thanks

ahhh Scorpion!. ok well as a child i remember we were a group of 7 i never played it on the arcade just on the sega genesis so all my friends had picked thier fighters and i got stuck with the " yellow ninja " which i grew to LOVE over the years.. scorpion is my favourite character in everything basicly there is no other character i feel for more!!

Ok story wise i have to dis agree with ALOT of the people on this site because im not complaining! i loved the plot twist where he became the champion of the elder gods! and what i see as an end for hanzo is him returning to his self and in next gen systems be known by his real name!.. the elder gods would grant him immortality as a human once again!.. thats just my dream but we all know in reality what is going to happen!

A- he will go on to the heavens after gettin his revenge n stoppin the threat...

B- he doesnt get his revenge and/or doesnt stop the threat... still goes to heaven!!

I have been quiet bout the MK team and i have not yet bashed some of the stories or the gamplay so far!

BUT THIS MIGHT BE SCORPIONS LAST GAME!!
PLEASE GIVE HIM SOMETHING UNPREDICTABLE!! SOMETHING JAW DROPPING AND AMAZING!! HE DESERVES IT MIDWAY!!

In the end if this is truely scorps last game i hope that he will be idolized and not forgotten! i hope that he will always be mentioned and remembered in future MK games..
Edit - I just realised that im waaaaaaay to late to be posting!! really sorry guys!! my bad

I've thought Raiden has been one of the most boring characters through the MK generations. The change of heart about him in MK:D made me very pleased. This evil new look reminded me of his first days... The MK ending made him seem like a greedy, power hungry god - exactly opposite of what he turned out to be. But now his transformation has taken an identical character as he was in the beginning. All I can see of him is getting more and more evil. Eventually the power will dawn on him and he will want total control. That would be an interesting transition.

The character who I can see having the most developement with him is Fujin. Realizing Raiden has gone on a power trip, he'll eventually have to go against his best friend to help save the realms. It would be an awesome climatic battle between to Gods, a great way to end the present MK story.

Lets seee Raiden... personaly not the biggest fan of raiden in general but ever since MK4 i started playing with him not just to complete the game with everyone! but as someone i enjoyed playing as.. he has great potential now!.. especially after goin all berzerk and bad ass

Storywise raiden's story hasnt changed since mk1 protect earth worriors go against the elders and just play the role of the mentor!.the father figure... his story just got exciting now! where he plays the mercyless protector of earth!

as for his ending the way things are going i see this as his last game..( personaly i'd hate to see him go!) like i said the problem the midway team are just sooo obvious, bland and boring...half the long time fans of MK can sense what is going to happen!! to be honest the biggest surprises the mk team ever pulled were the intros to both mk:DA n Mk:D

how i see him going out:

A- well i think he'll do something completly insane! and then realise what he's turned into.. and sacrafice himself to stop it...

B- I've been thinkin bout this one ever since raiden turned bas ass.. what if he goes outta control!.. and its up to liu and kang to stop him.. i mean cmon thats gotta be torture for them havin to kill thier mentor!

But like i said bout scorpion.. Raiden is one of the most needed characters in the Mk universe so if he doesnt make it into next gen.. he should always be mentioned and remembered..

Uh, no he didn't. None of the endings were canon. (Except for maybe a few.) Other than that, no one probably died in MK:D.

Now now... we don't know which endings are canon and which endings aren't, I'm pretty sure that a few of them will be.

To T-Rex: It would sort of make sense although you have to think about the age difference. I mean, how old are Frost and Sub-Zero anyway? Also, even if it were to make sense that they were siblings, I think it’d be stupid and predictable. It would be much better if there were a different explanation for Frost’s origins, one that could open up to more possibilities for her overall storyline.

So what if Sareena and Noob Saibot are of Netherrealm origin? Sareena wanted to get out of the Netherrealm and away from the Brotherhood of the Shadow. I’m sure she’d greatly hate it if she were to find out that the older Sub-Zero had become a member of the Brotherhood.

Ashrah is a cool character, but 1-dimensional in the story. Sareena should be tied into her story, imo and maybe certain other characters if possible.

Sektor is probably going to go after Sub-Zero. Aside from that, Sektor is trying to conquer Japan by spreading his Tekunin cyborgs throughout Japan. He probably will end up being a character who wants world domination through genocide.

Yeah, I too am sure Quan Chi will be scheming something. Maybe we will see him have a part in Scorpion’s and/or Noob Saibot’s stories. Shinnok..well, I think his story will tie more into Raiden’s story and maybe Liu Kang’s, Onaga’s, and Quan Chi’s. Noob being partially involved in his story is possible too as well as Sareena.

After Scorpion completes his task, there’s still potential for him to have a purpose, as in still being the Elder Gods’ enforcer.

To Ronald: If Scorpion and Noob Saibot were to have any connection in terms of their stories in MKA, I don’t think Scorpion’s reason for fighting Noob should be for revenge since Scorpion got his revenge already. I think that Scorpion’s conflict with Noob should be out of responsibility, because Scorpion did have a hand in Noob’s creation by killing him when Noob was the older Sub-Zero.

To hazzle: What you have to understand about the complaints of Scorpion’s overall storyline was that MKDA fucked up his overall storyline and character by altering his MK2 and MK3 stories (Note: Yes, I know he wasn’t in MK3, but UMK3 overrides MK3’s story and MKT overrides UMK3’s story.). I doubt this will be the last game for Scorpion

To Legacy: I don’t know...Raiden’s MK1 self never struck me as the greedy, power hungry type but more so, the arrogant type of god who thought he was superior to mortals. I do think that he’ll probably try to take his own power and challenge the authority of the Elder Gods.

To ErmacMaster92: Um, no...He’s clearly going to be in MKA so he’s not dead.

Anyway, Raiden is one of my favorite characters, and I just love his look and I think he has a badass quality to him, especially now with the Dark Raiden thing. Unfortunately, like Jade, another character who I like, Raiden's story wasn't all that interesting to me. Yes, his story is important, but I never felt that there was too much to it. I think this Dark Raiden path will take him to certain paths such as fighting the Elder Gods and having to deal with the Earthrealm heroes and Fujin and maybe characters like Shinnok and Shao Kahn. I imagine this game being his last (excluding any backstory games that are made) and Fujin truly taking his place as Earthrealm's protector god.

I mainly see these characters being tied into Raiden's storyline:

Liu Kang
Shao Kahn
Shinnok
Shujinko
Fujin

Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi are also possibilities.

I hope they'll explain more into Raiden's change, because right now, there's just speculation, mostly speculation about the influence of the One Being, which is probable. I just hope his story will unfold nicely and if he's going to be gone for good that it'll be done well.

The question is when are we reviewing next? This guy hasn't been around in a while.
The next character will be Liu Kang and it will be started tomorrow. For character since MK1, since so far we're having character who've only missed one or two games, we have longer time to discuss the character. Then after Liu Kang, we do Sonya Blade, then Johnny Cage, then I forgot the order I sent to Jerrod, but I think I said Reptile, Goro, Shang Tsung and then we will have finished MK1's cast.

what about goro kano tremour
Kano and Goro will be discussed in the MK1 cast, but not Tremor, chances are Tremor won't be discussed at all...
OK, now we discuss who's been the main hero of the series (for the majority of the time) Liu Kang... oh and I'm going to remind people to abide by the rules on page 1, thank you.

Liu Kang was born in China and raised by the Order of Light, he had heard many tales of the Mortal Kombat Tournament and its vile leader; Shang Tsung, who stole the tournament from the Shaolin, Liu Kang desired to return control of the tournament to the Order of Light, he followed the teachings of the Great Kung Lao and trained to be a Shaolin Monk, later after he grew up, he joined the White Lotus Society and trained with Master Bo’ Rai Cho a native of Outworld, who had long since despised Shang Tsung and desired to help Earthrealm, although he himself could not compete as a victory from him would’ve been a victory for Outworld. The training was intense, but Bo’ Rai Cho felt he had given Liu Kang the edge he needed.

With his training complete, Liu Kang returned to the Order of Light and asked for permission to compete in the Mortal Kombat Tournament. He was granted his request. Liu Kang departed for Shang Tsung’s island where he met his soon-to-be longtime friends, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. As the three warriors advanced through the tournament, they were assisted by the Thunder God and Earth’s Protector; Raiden who mentored them through the tournament. Eventually Liu Kang earned the right to challenge Goro, the current champion and the one who killed the Great Kung Lao. Although every warrior who had fought Goro before had died, Liu Kang had planned for this battle, by exploiting Goro’s overconfidence, he was able to defeat the Shokan Prince and with that he became the Champion of Mortal Kombat. But Liu Kang would later learn that this would come with a price.

When Shang Tsung learned of Goro’s defeat at the hands of Liu Kang, he sent his army to wipe out the warriors and personally challenged Liu Kang to Mortal Kombat. Although Shang Tsung had the ability to transform into many warriors, Liu Kang was able to defeat Shang Tsung using the Flying Kick technique that Bo’ Rai Cho had taught him, as Shang Tsung lay unconscious, the island began to collapse, Liu Kang quickly escaped the island and began his journey home.

When Liu Kang returned to the Shaolin Temples, he found them in ruins, on his way home, an army of Outworld mutants called Tarkata had attacked the temple. When Liu Kang returned, he met Kung Lao, together the two vowed to avenge their Shaolin Brothers. After they were warned by Raiden, the two traveled into Outworld to compete in a new tournament.

It was here that Liu Kang secretly met with Kitana, the stepdaughter of the Emperor Shao Kahn and through her, he learned the true nature of the tournament. It was all merely a diversion so the Emperor could begin a resurrection in Earthrealm. Liu Kang advanced to the final round in the tournament where he faced Shao Kahn himself. Shao Kahn was strong and it seemed nearly impossible, but Liu Kang was somehow able to pull out a win. With this, Liu Kang and his fellow Earthrealm Warriors fled back to Earthrealm to prepare for the coming invasion, but Kitana remained behind. Liu Kang paid respects to his fallen Shaolin Brothers and accepted these events as part of his destiny.

Liu Kang along with his friend Kung Lao began training a new generation of Shaolin Monks, but shortly after the invasion began as the souls of nearly every human on Earth was taken by Shao Kahn as the planet transformed into part of the Outworld. Liu Kang was one of the souls that were spared thanks to Raiden, who chose these warriors to liberate Earth from Outworld.

With this knowledge, Shao Kahn sent his extermination squads throughout Earth to hunt down and kill the remaining humans. Liu Kang found himself the primary target of these extermination squads. Liu Kang and Kung Lao hearing the words of Raiden traveled to the Native American Nightwolf’s camp where they would be safe from the extermination squads. It is known that during this time, Liu Kang met with Kitana again and vowed to help her free her mother Sindel from Kahn’s control, who had been the key to the Earthrealm invasion as well as set free Kitana’s home realm of Edenia which had been taken long ago by Shao Kahn.

When the final battle commenced, Kung Lao fought with Shao Kahn, but met an apparent end at the hands of the Emperor. Raiden also tried to fight Shao Kahn but to unknown reasons lost as well. Enraged by Raiden’s loss and the apparent death of Kung Lao, Liu Kang challenged Shao Kahn for the final battle that would once and for all determine Earth’s fate. With sheer will, courage and strength. Liu Kang defeated Shao Kahn and liberated Earth. Before the portal closed, Kitana thanked Liu Kang and the two parted ways.

Liu Kang began recruiting for new members of the Order of Light, in America, he met Kai and the two traveled into China, Liu Kang was to help Kai become a Shaolin Warrior. However, Raiden and Fujin, the Wind God appeared before them, the Heavens were being invaded by a fallen Elder God Shinnok, who Raiden had banished to the Netherrealm millions of years ago. Liu Kang agreed to help, but when he learned that Edenia had been seized by Shinnok and Kitana had been captured. Liu Kang journeyed into Edenia by himself to save her.

Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful. He returned to Earth where he began to assist Raiden by gathering together Earth’s warriors for a battle with Shinnok. Liu Kang also reunited with Kung Lao, who had actually survived his battle with Shao Kahn. Eventually the final battle with Shinnok came. Shinnok with his powerful amulet nearly seemed invincible, but it was merely a copy and when the ninja specter Scorpion trapped the sorcerer Quan Chi, who had possessed the real amulet in the Netherrealm, Shinnok’s powers faded and this allowed Liu Kang to defeat Shinnok for good.

As Liu Kang returned to his Shaolin Temples, he bowed and although he had saved Earth, he thought he had lost Kitana forever, but then a portal opened and Kitana stepped forward. Kitana thanked him for freeing her realm from Shinnok and offered him the chance to marry her and rule by her side as King of Edenia. Although Liu Kang wanted to, the responsibilities of the Mortal Kombat Champion lay deep, for he could not age as Champion, he had a responsibility to defend Earth. Although both Liu Kang and Kitana loved each other very deeply, the two parted ways once more.

Several years later, Liu Kang went on to enjoy relative peace. One day, on the Li Tei of the Wu Shi Academy, Liu Kang practiced his katas with Kung Lao watching him. However it was the not the real Kung Lao, it was Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung snuck up behind Liu Kang, but Liu Kang turned around and a fight broke out. Liu Kang had the advantage and surely would’ve won if it had not been the sorcerer Quan Chi, who had escaped from the Netherrealm. Quan Chi stunned Liu Kang with a blast to the back allowing Shang Tsung to get Liu Kang in a headlock. Liu Kang struggled to break free, but it was no use. Shang Tsung snapped his neck and then devoured his soul. Liu Kang was dead.

Inside Shang Tsung, Liu Kang would be tormented by his evil along with other victims of Shang Tsung’s soul drain. Through Shang Tsung’s eyes, he witnessed the battle between the Deadly Alliance and Raiden and then the return of the Dragon King. Raiden’s blast of his godlike essence destroyed Shang Tsung and Liu Kang’s soul along with the thousands of others were free to ascend to the Heavens.

However, Liu Kang remained behind to assist his friends in the fight against the Dragon King. Liu Kang discovered that an unknown force reanimated his body and was using it as a tool of destruction. It had killed innocents and though Liu Kang was not the perpetrator of these crimes, he could not help but feel responsibility and his friends had been enslaved by the Dragon King. In Outworld, Liu Kang’s soul met Ermac, who was eager to redeem himself and prove that he was a force for good. Together the two traveled through Outworld to stop Liu Kang’s body and free his friends.

Well, I don't think Liu Kang's story is as bad as some people say, I think he does need a little more development (something they could've EASILY done with Shaolin Monks, but well... we all know how MK:SM's story turned out) But I think some people are missing the fact that as the MAIN HERO, he would be the natural choice to defeat the MAIN VILLIAN (ok I'm done)

Anyway, I see two endings for Liu Kang, that I think would be very fitting and satisfying. His MK:D ending could happen and at the end of the day, he and Kitana will get married or he could stay dead and after helping the good guys out in defeating the big evil, he says his final goodbyes and moves on to the Heavens.

While the second ending is perhaps more symbolic in a way, the first is definately happier, hey come on, who says MK characters can't have a happy ending once in a while? wink

But I think that this should be Liu Kang's last game for at the very least a good while, but in the next-generation I think that Liu Kang will probably this legendary hero that the next-gen characters look up to and are awed by. An arena could even have a statue of Liu Kang in the background.

I definately feel that Liu Kang will surpass even the original Kung Lao in greatness and will almost definately not be forgotten in the next-gen storylines.

Liu Kang was one of my top characters in MK3 and MKD. Never really liked his "I'm gonna win and save everyone again!" story. It's boring. MKD tried to fix his story, but I hated it. Liu=Zombie is like Michael jackson=Hulk Hogan. Total bs.

Gameplay wise he is almost flawless. Even though he needs some new moves, he can still kick ass wothout 'em! I think his MK3 combo was the biggest. He was the only character I could do a 16 hit combo with (no infinites or anything.)

Overall Liu Kang is a great character. All he needs to do is have a conflict with Raiden and viola!

Lui Kang has never really interested me but i respect him as a cornerstone of the MK series. How ever i think his story line is at it end and will be over after armageddon. I think his story may tie in to evil Raidens with Lui Trying to stop evil raiden from doing something evil and getting beaten. May be after that raiden will realize what he has done and turn back of mabe hell kill every one else but i think Lui Kands soul will finaly get to rest in peace...or peacesgrin
