I've been working my butt off on some special things to put up for MK and MK2 that involves playing as the bosses, or other strange oddities and well-kept secrets from the MK world.

This is, however, going to be a growing list. I was originally going to start this post with the Genesis versions of MK and MK2, but due to myself not being able to acquire the cheat codes I need to do as such, I'll have to save it for another post.

I do not take all the credit for things such as the actual codes themselves, rather, I've painstakingly taken the time to research further into the codes themselves. All codes are in Pro Action Replay form for easier use in emulators, and the fact that not all PAR codes can be changed into a Game Genie code to get the same effect.

My ultimate goal is that maybe some ROM hacker can come in, see this, and have some fun with some MK ROMs by making the unplayable characters playable ones, kinda like in that UMK3 Hack thread, but just with the originally unplayable characters and not making it like MK Trilogy. And as a quick side note, some definitions: Freeze: The game locks up, but no other weird side effects happen. Jumble: The graphics become distorted in any way. Blackout: The screen goes black and locks up. Crash: The game quits. On some emulators, the program will just quit.

Anyway, let the weirdness begin!

The Courtyard II
Code: 8084CBA9 + 8084CC07

Description:
Bizarrely enough, there really are two Courtyard arenas in this game. This stage shows up after you fight in the regular Courtyard, and it either seems to be 90% complete, or a test stage of some sort. Instead of “The Courtyard” on the versus screen, it calls it “Throne Room”. It doesn’t play the typical music track, however. It actually plays the music that normally plays when you fight Goro! However, the only thing you can’t do on this level is your character’s fatality, or the game will go haywire in an ultra-slowdown, then freeze completely. Otherwise, it seems to be fully playable.

Reptile

The biggest thing about Reptile is that unlike most games, where the character has his or her own set of values that point to that character, Reptile is more or less a “patch” character. Rather than being a separate character, it’s basically just taking Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the same match, overriding them with a Green pallete and a life bar, and upping their speed. Therefore, normal character select codes will NOT work to get Reptile to be playable. To do such a thing, you’ll have to use multiple codes.

The normal character modifier code blacks out after Shang Tsung, so this is proof that Reptile does not exist in a normal character sense.

The Pro-Action Replay code “8084CF87” accesses Reptile to some degree. It only changes your character to his pallete and switches the life meter name to Reptile. You must select Scorpion or Sub-Zero. However, you will either have Scorpion or Sub-Zero’s moves, depending on who you choose, and you won’t have his speed either.

Also, this code acts as an “Always fight” character, so you’re always going to be fighting Reptile as Player 2, be it computer controlled or human.

So what does this mean? Anyone who can hack codes to have both Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s movesets available at the same time, and a code to speed up Player 1 will result in having a fully-playable Reptile as your character!

Mortal Kombat 2 (SNES)

Low Punch: Hold to speed up animation. Release to freeze.
High Punch: Hold to make Kintaro slip and fall. Release to jumble/blackout.
Low Kick: Slip and fall attack.
High Kick: Victory pose attack. Release to freeze game.
Block: Blocks, looks like getting up and staggering poses though.

Play as Shao Kahn
Code: 7E2EF80D

Standard Actions:
Forward: Blackout
Backward: Blackout
Up: Jumps, morphs into spear.
Down: Uppercut motion, chance of jumble & blackout.
Low Punch: Shoulder attack in place, release to freeze.
High Punch: Hold to stagger, release to freeze.
Low Kick: Game freeze.
High Kick: Laughing animation incredibly fast. Release to blackout.
Block: Blocks, looks like he gets up and shrugs it off. Get hit to block normally.

Nicely done, sir. Hopefully this will turn up on some sort of depository of information for MK bugs and glitches at some point soon.

Can someone post / explain the Mame cheat list for me?
I don't understand Mame cheats much, like I would like to use Noob in UMK3, but I don't really know where to begin.

Nice thread though.

If you're referring to the UMK3 hack, I know and have it. =P
Sorry, but what is the point of your post?
You tell us that the game crashes by nearly everything what you push after selecting a Boss trough MAME cheats... wow.. big news...

Seriously, those MAME cheats are probably 5 or more years old, its really nothing new.

So what if the codes are old? I don't see anyone else going into detail about things like this. Therefore, thread has point.

Maybe if someone with some good enough ROM hacking skills came in, they could use this kind of information for basic reference on what's buggy and what's not buggy.

Anyway, Mortal Kombat 2 for Genesis, N64 Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and N64 Mortal Kombat 4 to come soon. I just remembered a few bits and pieces.

I for one find this stuff interesting because, unlike so many topics that appear on this board, I've never seen this information neatly compiled somewhere before. Its a basis upon which to work towards finding new and interesting cheats and hacks.

Seeing it all together like this makes interesting patterns stand out more.
