Mortal Kombat - Behind the Scenes & More - LINKS FIXED - *Updated 2/25/2014*

Note: To reduce the number of posts I have been making, I will add each new video or other medium to this thread and combine all like minded posts in this thread into the same message for easier finding. I will also fix all links so they are clickable and convert embedded video links to just text links.

To review new content and fixed links, scroll through each message subtopic. If it has an "Updated:" string of text with a date then I have fixed some or all of the links.

Movie & Merchandise Trailers, Promos, TV Spots, and More

UPDATED: 2/25/2014 (Live tour/Merchandise/Miscellaneous/mka)

The Journey Begins:

The Live Tour:
Shortly after the release of the feature film a martial art theatrical stage show called, Mortal Kombat: The Live Tour started. The plot revolved around the protectors of the Earth, who must retrieve the sixth and final magic Dragon Amulet in order to stop Shao Khan's invasion. The show's premiere was at Radio City Music Hall in New York, on September 14, 1995 followed by a 200 cities road trip.

Similar to the movie, the Live Tour did not have any blood or Fatalities. Instead, it focused on choreographed martial art moves, music, and laser effects. A lot of characters appeared in the show. Kerri Hoskins - the actress who portrayed Sonya in the third game, reprised her role for the Live Tour. Another noticeable staff member is the actor (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) who played Shang Tsung in the film. He is one of the fight coordinators of the show.

Tickets were advertised and put in various gaming magazines to promote The Live Tour. The show ended in 1996. It left a lot of fans disappointed, mostly due to the missing violence.

Trivia and Interesting Facts

  1. For a huge bulk of trivia until I transfer it to this thread

References:

  • MK's Violence, It's only one time but neat to know MK is used to demonstrate how violent film action should be. Use CTRL+F to find it. Another script on that site also referenced MK. http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/Austin_Powers_TPWSM.html

Alternate Dialogue and Deleted Scenes:

  • In a past post by |{ombat, he provided a video called behind_some_scenes.mpg. Believe it or not this video included some alternate dialogue. Two scenes that I remember are:
    • Shang Tsung telling the warriors about Mk.
    • Art Lean asking Cage for advice (I believe "You got any advice coach" to which Cage replies "call in sick" or something like that.

I found Art's line in the 1st draft of the script. I haven't tried the 2nd draft to see if it had the call in sick line but the 1st draft of the script Cage told him to stay out of the clinches. All, some of the extended dialogue from Shang is also in the first draft... "each one of you has been chosen for your excellence, your skill, and your courage". All of the alternate dialogue I have seen in either that video, the trailer, or workprint has almost always came from the 1st draft of the script.

  • Don't forget the Dialogue from the trailer that wasn't in the movie... Liu: "You can't run from me Shang!" Shang: "I don't need to run!"

Mortal Kombat Laserdisc audio commentary

http://www.mediafire.com/?0sdskwzxryl73fb

Audio Commentary from the
Mortal Kombat movie Laser disc
Image Entertainment ID 3021 LI
Released 9 January 1996

With Producer Lawrence Kasanoff and
Alion Savitch, Visual Effects Supervisor

Captured in Pinnacle, Dolby 5.1
Extracted from Audio Analog-Track 2
using AoA Audio Extractor, MP3, Stereo 4800Mhz
This commentary running time: 1:33
Laser disc details: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113855/laserdisc

Notes:
The commentary stopped at the credits, which is why the length is short.
There is a gap around the 57:56 or so time - this was intentional. Laser Discs have
content on each side - the gap represents a new side.
The audio commentary started before the New line logos at the Dolby screen.
Adding it to a DVD would therefore require some extra work.

First 10 pages of the Annihilation script and all novels

as it appeared in 2000: http://web.archive.org/web/20050606071616/mortalkombat.com/MKHOME/annihilation.php3

Also, as a tip (I expect to prove when I receive my copy of the first script), the novels should pretty much match a draft of the script, so you should see some "missing scenes" stuff there.

You can read the novels here: http://mknovels.webs.com/

The Ultimate Guide to Mortal Kombat CD-ROM

The Ultimate Guide to Mortal Kombat was a flash-based computer program that provided strategies, storylines, tips, and exclusive content regarding the film, animated film (The Journey Begins), Live Tour, and Kombat gear (stuff to buy). It was, in all essence, a promotional product put out by Threshold to help promote the film, games, live tour, and animated video, all of which were happening around the time of its release (1995). It includes features like behind-the-scenes footage of the film and animated video, development details about the games, and interactive features like performing a fatality and answering trivia questions to learn about how something was made in the movie.

It is important to note there were two secrets this CD had, and neither had anything to do with MK. 1. The CD had a development document inside that explained it was a work in progress. 2. At the end of the program when the credits rolled, pictures of the staff of IMA (including Josh Wexler)

Below is a list of the items from this program available for you to enjoy:

Fan-Made "Lite Version" (Plays from hard drive, no videos)

Sketches, Music, Text, and More

Mk3 Codes Cracked - Including Movie, TJB, & Live Tour

Not all of them have been decoded yet (and I find it pointless now since all the known codes have already been published) but to help ease some minds- Remember the day when we were given kombat kodes in the MK3 ads (check the Media board where I posted those MK3 ads)? No one seemed to reveal what those kodes were. To no surprise, they didn't need to. I have taken the time to crack them and even list what they do, as well as the codes given at the MK Live Tour. I used MKSecrets.net to verify these codes. It would appear the ads were made to mislead us... KEY: DRAGON=0, MK=1, YING=2, 3=3 ?=4, L=5, GORO=6, RAYDEN=7, KAHN=8, SKULL=9 From the Movie: ?G(4)-?GD = 460-460 Randper Kombat (random morphing) From The Journey Begins: ?GG-"11"GG - 466-466 Unlimited run From The Live Tour's Collectible Tour Book: 179035 = street 343343 = the roof 880220 = Kahn's Tower 077022 = The Bridge 123-901 = Soul Chamber 600040 = Kombat Temple 666333 = Graveyard 717313 = Rain can be found at the graveyard text 550550 = Go see live tour message From MK3 Ads: * Midway purposely tried to deceive us by getting one character off. Goros Head - As It Was Sold on Propstore.com Before NRS Bought It

As the site listed: "

Mortal Kombat

Animatronic Goro Head ADI - 004

Stock # 17997

This is an animatronic Goro head from the 1995 adaptation of the popular video game Mortal Kombat. Goro was the six-armed villain who took on many foes before being defeated by Johnny Cage. The giant Goro was created by putting a man in a Goro suit which extended above his head with two extra arms and an animatronic head. This head is made of foam latex, and features a pony tail wig, and hard moveable eyes. Inside the head there is an intricate wiring set-up, and the head is attached to a metal base. The head stands 15” (38cm), and measures 8” x 10” (20cm x 25cm) around the head. This foam latex is fragile, but the piece is in overall good condition.

Another missing MK TV special?, MK:M N64 BETA video, Rare foreign Interviews with Christopher Lambert, and buy MK on MovieCD while they still last!

Note: You will see repeating threads throughout the next 2 hours as I merge all of my behind the scenes posts into one to make finding things much easier. Perhaps this thread can be stickied due to the amount of info it will have?

Three things to note:

1. According to this site, there was a DirecTV special of MK: "Home Mortal Kombat Special" Does anyone remember this? http://companies.jrank.org/pages/2779/Midway-Games-Inc.html

2. A BETA of MK:M for N64; this is 2 parts - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVS5ZLtigtE

3. Rare interviews (most in English): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhgZ8O9_Zf4 This guy has three more videos. More rarities (1 was mentioned earlier by someone else) can be found by searching "mortal kombat files" to find 7 foreign Mk video about the movie, most in English.

4. Remember the MovieCd version of Mortal Kombat where you could watch the movie on your Win 3x or 9x computer? Well, it's not so rare - there are 8 copies for sale on Amazon.com - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1574180525/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

titan,

There seems to be a lot of behind the scenes stuff from MKA but nothing as in-depth as in the first movie. Search the forum for "annihilation b-roll" and it should have some video. I haven't got around to archiving it yet on this site.

Here's a small clip found on Youtube:

I greatly appreciate all the work you do. I was wondering, was there ever any taping of the MK live tour? or perhaps any behind the scenes on Conquest?

RE: Mortal Kombat Movie - Behind the Scenes & More Thread *Updated 1/14/2012*

Other than the possibility if a regular person done it, there is no known official copy of The Live Tour available anywhere.

As for Behind the Scenes on Conquest, the only known source I am aware of is at the MKC fan site. You can browse the site for more information, like trivia, interviews, and more.

There is a possibility the Press Kit has information like this. Those seems hard to find and when they are go for over $60.
