First of all I'd like to say that this thread is not about if Rain deserves to be in Mortal Kombat or not. This thread is not about if people like him or not. No, this is a thread about IF, or rather, WHEN Rain shows up in the game, how would you like him to be in said game. So please keep that in mind to avoid flamewars. Thank you. ^^

Rain's playable debut was in the console version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 where he is shown as a purple palette swap of Reptile.

In this game he had three special moves:
- Super Roundhouse: Performed as a normal roundhouse, except that Rain kicks the opponent out of the screen who then appears at the other end of the screen.
- Frost Orb: An orb of water trown at the opponent which then stuns him/her in the air for a few moments.
- Lightning Strike: Rain summons a lightning bolt from the sky which strikes down into the opponent who gets hurled up in the air.

Rain's storyline was pretty simple. He was born Edenian, but was working for Shao Kahn. Kitana offered him to join her in freeing Edenia, but he chose to stay with Shao Kahn and has since been condemned as a traitor to the Edenian throne.

Rain shows up shortly in Mortal Kombat: Deception in Konquest Mode, found in Edenia where he tells Shujinko to find him a hiding spot. Shujinko instead gives Jade the information about Rain and they plan to set him up for an ambush. Shujinko leads Rain straight into the trap which leads to Rain being defeated by Jade.

Rain appears once more in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in a new attire, looking more regal, gaining a cape and his Storm Sword.
In this game he has the Zi Ran Men fighting style and has four special moves:
- Water Blast: Rain blasts a jet of water at the opponent.
- Shocking Bolt: The same as his Lightning Strike move from UMK3.
- Mystic Vapors: Rain disappears in a puddle of water and reappears behind the opponent.
- Windy Feet: Rain shoots himself towards the opponent with the help of his water powers and kicks the opponent to the ground.

Rain appears in Konquest Mode where we learn that he is indeed Taven's half-brother. Because Argus, a god of Edenia, has slept with a woman that was not his wife, Delia, who later concieved a baby boy, Rain's past was kept secret, but Rain learns from Quan Chi that he is indeed a demi-god and has the right to rule Edenia if he defeats his half-brothers and claims Blaze's prize as his own. However, Taven defeats him and...
Yes, and then what?
Raiden is defeated by Shao Kahn and in his last moments he sends his past self a mental message containing visions of the future, and that's where this game starts!
We have yet to see any signs of Rain's appearance, but it has been hinted that Rain will be a DLC character eventually. However, this I'd like to ask of you:
How do YOU want to see Rain in this game?
What special moves do you want him to have?
How should his outfit look like?
What could his storyline be like?
How do you want his ending to be like?
Discuss. ^^

About Me

I'm sorry. But I JUST made this for another thread and I find it appropriate to put here

I know I haven't said this before, but Rain is my favorite character in the MK Universe.
I've written pages on what I want to see from Rain.
Story-wise, I really wanted to see him during his implied relationship with Kitana. There are *dozens* of ways they could use that relationship, and its inevitable demise, to strengthen the characters of both Rain and Kitana (incidentally my two favorite characters).
I'm much more passionate about his gameplay, as his MKT gameplay is what drew me to him in the first place. I loved all three of his moves in MKT, and I would be sad for him to return without them. I wouldn't mind if they revamped things a bit to make certain moves more congruent with his weather powers.
Here's the moveset I came up with before:
Lightning Strike- His only surviving move, and yet Nightwolf still steals his thunder(bolt)! This would be just as it was in MKT. Super version calls a larger bolt which hits them anywhere on the screen if they don't block.
Tempest Kick- The reincarnation of super roundhouse, identical except some extra FX. Super version also does an electric shock and can hit through a block.
Waterspout- Functionally identical to Mind Control Orb from MKT, but involves a thrown ball of water which erupts into a vortex of water upon contact, and can be controlled with the D-pad. Super version flies faster and controls them twice as long.
Stormchaser- His Liu Kang kick from MK:A. "Windy Feet" just sounds really dumb, IMO! Super version knocks them across to the other side like Tempest Kick.
Evaporate- His MK:A teleport. Super version- he reappears with a Lightning Strike, appearing under the opponent, and bouncing them up if they don't block.
Squall Counter- He reaches toward his opponent. If this intercepts an attack, he grabs them and then blasts them with a giant jet of water from his fist. Super version knocks them all the way back, then damages them again when they hit the back wall.
X-ray: Typhoon Trauma- Rain grabs his opponent like in Squall Counter, but if he connects, he holds them in place while he summons a Lightning Strike. He bounces them up, then connects with a Tempest Kick, shattering his foe's chest and ribs and knocking them off the screen. As they fly in from the behind him, Rain turns and does a potent uppercut, knocking them up and off the screen. In an homage to his other MKT fatality, they fall back upside down, and break their neck and back on the ground.
Finishers:
Watery Grave- you had a really awesome idea, Noob: Rain surrounds his foe with a big bubble of water, then closes his fist and causes them to explode from the water pressure, turning the entire bubble red. He then releases the bubble, which splashes down and reveals their mutilated corpse.
Dessicate and Obliterate- Rain draws every drop of water from his opponent's body, leaving them a dried husk. Before the husk can fall over, Rain releases the gathered water back at his foe in an explosive blast, disintegrating the dried remains.
Hurricane Kick (heh heh)- Rain Tempest Kicks his foe so hard their torso separates from their legs. He catches the torso as it flies in from behind him, then lifts it up and summons bolts until the torso is nothing but charred remains.
"Klassic" Fatality- his original death-by-lightning fatality, updated so he blasts a couple of limbs off before destroying them utterly.
Hara Kiri: Storm Safety- (another nod to one of your ideas, Noob)
Rain sprays his legs and feet with water from his hands until a puddle forms at his feet. He then takes out a sword/dagger, and hoists it high in the air. Lightning strikes, and his head explodes.
Friendship: Rain Dance- in return for Nightwolf's theft of his Lightning Strike, Rain dons a cheesy feathered headdress and does a Native American raindance, summoning a downpour followed by a rainbow in the sky.

Damn, I've been thinking of making this! lol.
What special moves do you want him to have?
Roundhouse kick. I would like to see a return of all of his UMK3/MKT moves. Wasn't a big fan of his Armageddon ones. I would get rid of his storm sword and bring back those daggers he had in his MKA render. I wonder why they weren't his weapon in-game.
How should his outfit look like?
I would love to see his Armageddon outfit return, but with a few updates here and there.
What could his storyline be like?
I would love for his storyline to revolve around him finding out the "truth" about who he really is and the "power" that is "rightfully" his. Rain could've been raised by a general in Kahn's army and over his lifespan has been loyal to Kahn, but Raiden appears and tells him a bit about his past(his real father was a God, ect) and convinces Rain to fight alongside Earth's forces during Kahn's invasion.
How do you want his ending to be like?
Rain is told EVERYTHING by Quan Chi. How Argus gave him up, how he favors Taven/Daegon, Delia and Argus' planned "quest" for the brothers and that true power awaits him in the future ect. Rain ends up turning against the Earth warriors and Raiden. Quan tricks him into pledging his allegiance to the fallen Elder God Shinnok, leading into the next game.

drpvfx... That water pressure fatality sounds incredible!
Boon has made so many off hand comments about Rain, I think his inclusion is absolutely in this game. Playable? Not right away... but I am hoping for something like Jade, Noob, and Smoke circa MK2 where you can play against him after completing some radical task.
DLC eventually? Absolutely, but I think his inclusion in the game as a secret character for some months initially would be pretty bangin'.

Ok, ... Yes. I've often said that I don't like or hate Rain. He's just sort of there. He's always been uninteresting to me. However, if he were to turn out something like what you've got here? Then I would definitely have to re-evaluate my position on him. Absolutely love the specials and fatalities. Very good job.
Also.. one last thing. They need to give him a unique and kickass look. His MKA outfits just didn't do anything for him. However, given how good the redesigns have been for MK9... I truly doubt that will be an issue when he is introduced.

On a serious note.
If Rain were to be in, I would actually like them to downplay the entire "Son of Argus" angle.
Instead, I think it would be cooler to focus more on him being a traitor to Edenia. More of a "two-faced" character.

So a male Tanya? LMAO
Why can't he be a two-faced son of Argus?
@ZeeDoctor: I agree with that 100%. Gotta loose the whiny "shoulda been mine" prince personality.

I think it adds more depth. Just like Sonya's "daddy issues". These characters need depth or else they end up like Jarek.

I said downplay. Not erase.
I didnt really dig his motivations in MKA. As TomTaz puts it perfectly.
I don't really find the whole "I'm a prince! I want Edenia for myself!" story really meshing to well, especially with MK9's story direction. Hell, in MKA it was relevant and it barely mattered.
I think the character has more potential as a greedy power-hungry ex-Edenian royalty kind of guy, looking out for number 1. Whereas I see Tanya as more of an Enforcer I'd like to see Rain as more of a blatant traitor. And his motivation for joining Kahn could be to take his "rightful" throne over Edenia.

Right, I get that. Character Development is a great thing. I still think they should focus more on the underhanded traitor part of his story and go from there. I mean, he did betray Edenia. Treason usually ends with execution or exile... so really either way he'd not be a prince of anything anymore. If the prince part is worked into his story, it should be about how bitter he is at what he lost. Not whining to Taven (Or rather any random character) about why he's entitled to sit on the thrown. Cause really he isn't.

I really like Rain and i would love to the MKteam to continue with the concept they had for him in MKA, this kind of noble or royal look. It's cool because it makes you feel as he is not just an assasin for Khan.
For specials, i think his roundhouse and the water orb were great back in MKT, but i'm not sure if i'd like to see them again. What i would love him to have is his water blast.

Rain betraying Edenia could also play out with Tanya doing the same (should she do that after this game), and then the two could work together. Just a thought.

Not whining to Taven about why he's entitled to sit on the thrown. Cause really he isn't.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. This is how I want to see Rain.

Thanks guys! I put quite a bit of thought into those moves. NoobSaibot5 did come up with some of the ideas (or very similar ideas) where noted, but those are back in the older thread.

Awh you remembered! :)
I'd love to see that Water Bubble fatality. That'd be epic!
Another fatality idea I had for him was where he grabs his opponent by the throat with one hand, lifts them off the ground, and with his hydrokinesis causes the water in his victim's body to boil and steam. The opponent screams in agony for a few short seconds as their body jerks violently from this procedure and their eyeballs burst, before they too burst from the preassure into a gory pile of steaming guts, bones and blood. Vapour rises off their remains as Rain strikes his winning pose, with thunder and lightning bellowing in the background.

Rain betraying Edenia could also play out with Tanya doing the same (should she do that after this game), and then the two could work together. Just a thought.
