Street Fighter V taking roster risks, why not MKX??

Well, just seen the latest trailer for Street Fighter V. They could easily have re-skinned the SF2 era characters again with some new stages/variations etc but the third released character is Charlie Nash!!

Last time he was on the playable roster was in Street Fighter Alpha 3 in 1998 and never in the main series!! Brilliant to see a major developer taking some calculated roster risks and giving some love to their long-standing hard fans, not rehasing the same returning characters again and again. Very brave to be using such a character early in the marketing too!!

See, it can be done NRS!! You were once cutting edge, what happened?!

Because I doubt kharacters like Hydro and Tremor would be worth developing?

Am I even looking at this thread right?

I don't disagree, but you can't expect anything too surprising following a reboot. Holding pattern is the order of the day until we get another sequel or two into the new series.

Agree -, I think that makes it double sad that NRS couldn't have drawn their returning roster from a wider pool of characters. Capcom is adding a returnee last seen in 1998 and chiefly regarded as a Guile clone!! Hardly a fan fave.

This. These guys have remained obscure for decades for a reason.

OT, but your signature is making me nuts, because for all the improved bells and whistles in this game, you'd think NRS would finally be able to animate Reptile's spit properly.

And it took them how many years to do that? And when did you learn the roster for MKX?

This fucking shit again? While Nash was a nice surprise, SFV sounds like it's going to have the same SF2 series staples and hardly anyone outside of that game. Besides, Nash is only the third character revealed for SFV, so don't go making comparisons just yet, seeing as the game won't be out until probs early 2017.

This. Capcom put out the same freaking game several times since 2008 in SF IV, just as they did with the SF3 series, the Alpha series and most definitely the SF2 series.

Sure, there are series that take less risks. Tekken and DOA immediately jump to mind. But MK puts out a new experience and takes far more risks than SF every time they release a new entry. Only real exceptions are UMK3, Trilogy and Armageddon.

SF digging in to its past and pulling out Charlie NotGuile does little to make me think that they're going to do anything horribly drastic with the roster. Hell, Bison's the next character.

As for MK, I agree that they've played it pretty safe with the returning cast, but there's still a ton of roster space left for some surprises.

I think Capcom are taking huge risks with also with Ryu, Chun-Li and M.Bison...wait.

Capcom reveal one fairly popular character for the game he appeared in out of four and suddenly they are taking risks? Personally, I do not think so. I would not be surprised if all the Street Fighter II characters come back in Street Fighter V.

When Capcom reveal some completely new characters then that is what I call a risk like NRS has done but they have not yet.

How people can jump to conclusions like this baffle me, considering probably only about half of the MKX roster has been released and WB are only revealing the popular characters first for marketing reasons.

I would wait and see the final roster and then make conclusions.

Yep found it, the worst thread on MKO.

If fucking Ryu, Chun Li, Charlie, and Bison are fucking roster risks, wtf would be conservative? Jesus man

Speaking of Street Fighter taking risks, and this isn't meant to be a shot at the OP, as I do get his sentiment behind the thread, even if I disagree with the example used, but how many shotos do you all think will be in vanilla Street Fighter V?

If I put the over/under at six, would you take the over or the under?

OP is getting a ton of flack. Frankly it's true. MKX doesn't have one obscure characters. Obscure characters are anyone(that's not Quan Chi or Kenshi) from MK4-MKD. I wanted at least a good 4 or 5 of the roster to be characters we haven't seen in a while. Now it looks like that may not happen sadly.

NRS revived Kitana, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero and maybe Liu Kang & Jax too.

How resurrecting Nash (1 char) is taking more roster risk than 3-5, specially in a game-series more based in lore?

TELL ME! XD

Maybe because we freaking see Kitana, Kung-Lao, Sub-zero, Liu, and Jax in just about every game for the past 20+ years? What's not to understand? Taking risks would be throwing us some Li Mei's, some Fujin's, some Reiko's ect.

That argument is so flawed. Street Fighter has it's Sub-Zeros and Jax's and Kitana's, and they will be in every game until the end of time. Because they add one obscure character, they are suddenly taking risks? I don't think so. And there will surely be more characters from the later era, it's been confirmed multiple times. Just because you haven't seen them yet doesn't mean they don't exist. The whining is out of control. I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Just 1 and it's just Charlie.

Maybe if it was more than 1 like Q, Skullmageddon, Karin, Garuda, Urien, Birdie, Sodom or Alex I'd have thought you had a point but no.

MKX already risked more by showcasing 4 brand new characters at their reveal on E3 of all stages than Street Fighter bringing back ONE guy.

Has there even been any gameplay footage of Charlie since? Or has it just been Ryu and Chun-Li?

I can't even with this post.

Charlie has a huge fan-following. Huge. Putting him in this game is in no way taking a risk. He and Alex were the only two characters with a big following left out of the 32 versions of SF4 (and Karen but she's not owned by Capcom or whatever so she has an explanation). So I expect both in SFV. Now if they put in a bunch of the hated characters from SF3, I'll be surprised.

Is my lack of faith REALLY that disturbing? We're nearly almost at the ONE MONTH mark and yet people are still acting as if we have so many characters left to go and that 3D era characters will still make it in but come on- it's not looking bright. People keep claiming there will be 28-30 characters in the final roster DESPITE the select screen not changing ONE bit since June.

I want to be proven wrong. I want to be made to look like a fool on April 14th when it's revealed that Fujin, Tanya, Havik, Bo' and maybe a few others are in but let's face facts- it's NOT likely.

Street Fighter re-introducing a character haven't seen since 1998 and revealing him this early is more risky than ANYTHING MKX has done with it's stale character reveals. OMG RAIDEN IZ REVEALED! OMG KANO IZ IN! OMG KITANA IZ IN(Love her, but come on it's not like a surprise).

These reveals have been nothing more than the usual characters. The only somewhat surprising reveal is maybe Ermac, but he's pretty much has become a popular character since Deception so meh, not that surprising.

I'm looking forward to more Street Fighter V reveals at this point and that's fucking tragic considering how much I hate that damn series. But at least their fans are getting some surprises.

Yeah let me know when they put Alex or Necro in the game and you might have a point regarding roster risks. Charlie isn't a roster risk. I'm still pissed that Capcom gives no love to Alex. Dude was my favorite SF3 character.

My favourite characters are Noob Saibot, Li Mei, Mavado, Rain & Nitara. And I have more favourites in MKDA-MKAr era than MK1-UMK3.

But instead of taking serious every damn troll thread, I make fun and I try to take things positively.

Makes us a favor to all, and chill out for a while. You're annoying as every other fanboy and troll.
