ya know it wouldve been nice for the strategy guide to show pop-ups and knockdowns for each char like the mkda and mkd strategy guides did since there is 62 ppl. yes you may know most of the pop-ups and knockdowns if you played mkda and mkd but wtf does this strategy guide really tell us that you cant already find in the freaking move list anyway? What great char bios like meats? A fun character serving shinnok what? wtf does that mean a fun char? ok sure thanx midway for crapping all over mka storyline and thank prima guides for making the biggest most pointless strategy guide we all have ever seen. Your idea owns if I can contribute anything I would love too. Also we should set a day aside for mkd playing online i miss mkd it was kick@ss. Like mkd tuesday or something like that. Remember a hand in the foot is worth a foot in the toosh. If you dont get it Im talking about you.grin

Well...What exactly can you contribute?

Also Skinsley I do believe it was t1000 who stated the pixel size in page 6. For a background, I'd imagine just use the skull/fire background used on the "?" mark page. For images and renders - that'd work. Most of the returning DA characters and Deception characters retain their alternate costumes from the BIOs in the game, so the renders can be cut from those and used.

The Create A Fighters will be done by Legacy who's covered Kia and Jataaka already.

However, we need Khameleon, Tremor, Human Smoke and Classic Sub Zero for those who've complained.

I can contribute with my art, I sculpt as you guys know but also for perhaps certain characters in MK:A sooner or later since the game is still young.

But there are a few guys I know pretty well, one I know I could make a guide for.

For KAK's ninja arts, do you mean like have someone make those characters?Because I have a human smoke made in one of my profiles.

And I believe I can make any characters of older games if you wish.I'm going to buy a camera and take some pics of them of my KAK's.

Feel free to explain what exactly you're looking for but that's what I can offer, I can help out with gameplay also but a lot of guys here already beat me to that.Like I said though, a specific guide for an individual character I can do later on.

But my sculptures are liked by a lot on here so perhaps I can make a new one or something, I also have my best ones saved as I took good pics of them like Cyrax, Sub and Sektor for example.

Let me know dude.I'll visit this thread some.

We're looking for HQ pics, almost renders/screen shots of the KAK's, and yes - Human Smoke is one of the primary ones. Reason we're doing some of these is because they're characters people want to see, so by including them we're really helping them out.

Also, MKF, you're not beaten by gameplay - I'd actually like if you got in touch with Hjs-Q and split the work with him and mos3ph, and whomever else is doing it as well. As long as we get all of the characters covered - then good. Please see Mos3ph's format on page 5, I believe.

The art is all covered already with bleed and Aculeus, that's basically all we really need. Thanks for offering.

RAIN

Speed: 7/10
Range: 6/10
Power: 8/10
Safety: 6/10
Specials: 5/10
Overall: 6/10

Stances:
Zi Ran Men
Storm Sword

Specials:
Water Blast: F, B, 1
Rain's Water Blast is a below average projectile at best. The main reason for this is that it doesn't have great range. Even though the water animation goes across the entire screen, it won't hit unless you execute the move less than half a screen away from your opponent. The major advantage to using this move (and making it worth trading if you're close enough) is the pushback stun property that comes with it.

Shocking Bolt: D, U, 2
The Shocking Bolt doesn't have many uses, but when it's worth using you can combo off of it for some big damage. Rain summons a lightning strike to hit right where the opponent is standing as you execute the move. If it connects, the opponent is popped up and thrown towards you, ready for one of Rain's many big air combos. The key to getting good juggles off of this move is to do it when you're just outside sweep distance, that way you can get a good jump in to start your air combo.

Mystic Vapors: U, D, 3
Rain's best special move, he turns into a puddle of water and then reappears behind your opponent, where you can then start a big combo if your opponent isn't quick enough to block. This move also comes out fast and has a short recovery, so you stand little chance of rising up into being punished by your opponent. Abuse this move, especially if you're backed into a corner.

Windy Feet: F, B, 4
Windy Feet isn't a bad special move, but it only really comes in handy when you're up against a wall. If you can get a parry, do so and then throw this move out to get yourself some maneuvering space to sidewalk your way out of the corner. Looks kind of like Liu Kang's bicycle kick, but it's only one attack.

Throw: Flip Over Strike
Rain's throw can be deceiving. It looks like you're simply flipping over your opponent to gain a positional advantage, but in reality you're doing both that and causing a decent amount of damage. This throw causes both pushback and a knockdown, so use the time and space to plan your next rush or combo. Do NOT for any reason use this throw when you have your opponent against a deathtrap, because you'll be the one with your back to it when the throw is done.

Stormy Weather: 2, F+2, CS
Rain's style branch is highly damaging and is also a launcher, claiming 23% health and sending your opponent sky high. Some of Rain's best and most damaging possibilities start with this launcher, so learn it and use it often when you get up close to your opponent.

Best Moves:
Zi Ran Men: 3
This kick is one of Rain's best moves, and if you put 1, 1 before it the 3 becomes a launcher. This kick by itself does 12% damage and is safe on block, not to mention it comes out quickly. Use this move often.

Zi Ran Men: F+2
Rain's other Zi Ran Men launcher, F+2 does 11% on its own and is the second move of Rain's style branch (2, F+2, CS). You can land some truly devastating air combos if you can get the style branch to connect, so this move should definitely be in your arsenal.

Storm Sword: D+4
Since Rain doesn't have a sweep in either stance, you need to keep your opponent honest with low attacks. His Zi Ran Men options aren't very attractive, so use this attack to make your opponent remember that you're not just going to be throwing out huge combos (which is Rain's strength)

Storm Sword: B+1
This is Rain's best launcher, and because it hits for 14%, you can be sure that if this hits you'll be able to cause some major damage to your opponent. This isn't Rain's safest attack, but the reward is much greater than the risk when you think about his air options.

Combos:
(Storm Sword) B+1, jump, 1, 1, 3, 4 (6 hits, 29%)
(Storm Sword) B+1, B+2, jump, 1, 1, 3, 4 (7 hits, 30%)
(Storm Sword) B+2, jump, 1, 1, 3, 4 (6 hits, 23%)
(Storm Sword) B+1, B+1, B+1 (3 hits, 28%)
(Storm Sword) B+1, jump, 2, 2, 1, 1, 3, 4 (8 hits, 36%)
(Zi Ran Men) 1, 1, 3, jump, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 3, 4 (10 hits, 33%)
(Zi Ran Men) 1, 1, 3, jump, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 4 (9 hits, 31%)
(Zi Ran Men) 2, F+2, CS, jump, 1, 1, 3, 4 (8 hits, 32%)
(Zi Ran Men) 2, F+2, jump, 2, 4 (5 hits, 27%)
(Zi Ran Men) 1, 1, 3, 2, F+2 (5 hits, 28%)
(Zi Ran Men) 2, F+2, CS, jump, 2, 2, 1, 1, 3, 4 (10 hits, 35%)

Add damage to these by doing Shocking Bolts as your opponent gets up for more launchers (not foolproof, as it can be sidestepped, but worth it)

Playing As:
Rain is at his best when playing on top of or about a step away from your opponent. He has extremely damaging air combos and launchers, so use them in conjunction with one another and you'll be winning many fights quickly. His combos aren't all that hard to pull off either, so most beginning players can pick Rain and be able to play him fairly effectively in a matter of minutes. Be sure to use the Shocking Bolt after knocking down or juggling your opponent to possibly cause some extra damage. Abuse Mystic Vapors if your opponent likes to use the same moves and combos repeatedly, so when you see it come out reappear behind them and make them pay for it. When in Storm Sword, use B+1 to both launch and to take away a good chunk of health (14%) in a single strike. Just above all else, make sure you can set yourself up to land big combos. The most important reason is that when playing as Rain, it only takes a few big air combos to win a round.

Playing Against:
Make sure that Rain doesn't come anywhere near you unless you're already attacking him. Counterpick with characters that can keep away (Ermac, Sub-Zero), hit and run (Sareena, Noob), or turtle (Stryker) so that you have the tools to beat Rain. He's got two launchers that he can combo off of in each stance, so do your best to know when they're coming. His Zi Ran Men launchers are more damaging, as they're part of combos, so don't allow him to get too close, and use safe moves that he can't punish easily. Keep an eye out for the Mystic Vapors move and hit the block button as soon as you see it come out. The worst case scenario is that Rain goes low and you eat 6-8% of damage, which isn't a big deal unless you're low on health or the fight is very close. If you can limit Rain's juggle possibilities, you'll beat him.

Final Analysis:
Rain needs to be played up close in order to be used to his full potential. He is flexible in the sense that you can rely on both single strikes and juggle combos to win fights with him. His special attacks should be used with caution except for the Mystic Vapors, which is vital to your success in juggling your opponent. As for launchers, stick to Zi Ran Men so that you can mix up his style branch with 1, 1, 3 to confuse your opponent and have them on their back in a matter of seconds. Try to use the Shocking Bolt as your opponent is getting back up for a good chance at some free damage and another launcher. If he had more range and a sweep, I'd put Rain near the top of the list, but as he stands he'll be at the upper end of the middle tier at best.

Very nice Rain analysis! Thanks for the feedback on the cover guys.

I've been trying to keep things updated - sadly I'll be away almost all weekend due to it being my birthday and there are plans beyond my control. heh.

Everything's moving along so nicely. I'm still waiting on the news on the layout, so let's hope that's going ok.

2007, Is it possible you can set up the layouts for skinsley perhaps - give him the dimensions and whatnot...to help him out with it?

Well, I've got the best gameplay people on this board - with the exception of malone. They know they're stuff - and I believe they know it enough to write the guide. Not every character can be top knotch, hit you from across the screen - heh. Rain's a more personal character.

Yes! We really need someone to handle layout for the pages along with the images and whatnot. We'll supply you with the images and whatnot and the information.

Just come up with a killer background design and order to things.

The page size will be the same about 8.5 x 11, or standard strat guide size if you need measures.

for more info pm me or hit me up on aim - apesonatrain.

Proudnintendofan, I think we've divided up characters already for storyline - however you can work with Nemesis who is covering MK1 characters which includes Scorpion and Liu Kang. I was also told you could handle gameplay as well? We could really use help with that as well!

Well, I suppose I could give it a shot, come to think of it, seeing as how I'm currently in the middle of my own storyline. (Alternative MK7 story, well now MK8 really) I probably wouldn't have time to do any bios for this. Besides, I try to balance a normal social life (and schoolwork) and writing MK fanficiton (to put it one way). Something that's not easy

Scorpion Bio:

Scorpion
Alignment: Neutral
Allies: None
Foes: Quan Chi, Shao Kahn, Onaga
First appearance: Mortal Kombat 1

Biography: Scorpion was once a high-ranking assassin in the Shirai Ryu clan, a group of assassin ninjas, who work as mercenaries, thieves, and the like. Originally, his father protested him joining, but the Shirai Ryu clan paid hefty amounts of money, which helped Scorpion pay for his wife and child. Scorpion had a good life; living peacefully with his wife, his son, and his clan. Unfortunately for him, that peace would come to a stifling halt.

His rival clan, the Lin Kuei, sent out their best warrior to collect the map of elements in the Shaolin Temple in China. Scorpion was hired by Quan Chi to impede Sub-Zero’s progress. Eventually, both of them reached the room which contained said map. The two combated each other, but Sub-Zero ultimately came out the victor. Without mercy, he ripped Scorpion’s head from his shoulders right off.

Scorpion spent his days in the Netherrealm, eventually finding out all that had transpired, how Sub-Zero destroyed his clan, and murdered his wife and son. Thus, Scorpion’s anger and rage was born.

Because Scorpion was a specter, he had the ability to travel from the Netherrealm to any other realm as long as he wished. He found Sub-Zero in the Prison of Souls. With blind rage, he tried to defeat Sub-Zero, but was bested. Scorpion returned to the shadows, eagerly awaiting his next opportunity.

That opportunity had arrived, with the announcement of the Mortal Kombat tournament. Sub-Zero would be entering the tournament; Scorpion would make sure he would get his just desserts. He stalked Sub-Zero on the boat and on the island. When the time was right, Scorpion and Sub-Zero were to fight each other.

Sub-Zero stared at Scorpion with shock and fear in his eyes. Scorpion relished the moment, but he would not dwell on it. The two fought, trading blows and kicks. Fire and Ice clashed an epic battle of the titans. Scorpion was on the losing side, however, and Sub-Zero was closing in. Scorpion channeled his energy into his hand, and what emerged from it was an elongated spear.

This special move took Sub-Zero by surprised. Scorpion used it to reel in Sub-Zero and deal a blow to Sub-Zero, crippling him. Scorpion stood over Sub-Zero, like a hawk to its prey. Scorpion pulled his ninja hood off, revealing a ghastly skeleton head underneath. He burned Sub-Zero to death, and disappeared into ashes.

Months later, Scorpion found out that Sub-Zero had returned, somehow. He would be competing in the second tournament. Scorpion made haste to Outworld to continue to his unholy crusade. He hid in the shadows, watching every move that Sub-Zero made. There was one battle that piqued his interest.

Sub-Zero was facing off with a kick boxer from Africa, Scorpion watched with interest, and just as he expected, Sub-Zero defeated his enemy. He pitied the man, he begged for mercy from Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero stood there, and then in a few moments, knocked the man unconscious.

Scorpion did not believe it, the unmerciful assassin he knew spared someone’s life. He couldn’t believe it; he didn’t want to believe it. He emerged from the shadows, and challenged Sub-Zero to a duel. Scorpion defeated the icy ninja. He prepared to interrogate Sub-Zero, when his enemy revealed himself.

Scorpion came to the conclusion that this was not the same Sub-Zero he knew, it was his younger brother. Scorpion’s heart weighed with guilt. He took away his brother from him, and he felt he had no right to do that. Thus, Scorpion made a vow, to protect his younger brother from any enemies that would endanger his life. Scorpion defended Sub-Zero from Shao Kahn’s soldiers, and helped him escape from Outworld. He then returned to the Netherrealm.

One day, Scorpion noticed the souls of the Netherrealm fleeing from their hosts. Scorpion evaded the magic, and escaped from the Netherrealm. He found himself in Earthrealm, surrounded by Kahn’s warriors. He fended many off, but he could not battle them all. Scorpion was eventually captured and brought before the Emperor.
Shao Kahn was indeed intrigued by Scorpion’s abilites. He made a deal with the Emperor to be one of his allies for the war on Earthrealm. Scorpion agreed, though he distrusted the emperor. He however, soon discovered that Sub-Zero was involved in this, and struggling against Kahn’s army. Scorpion remembered his vow, and kept his promise. He turned against Kahn, helping Sub-Zero defeat the soldiers and helping him recover as Earth’s warriors defeated Kahn.

A few years have passed since his defeat. He was visited by Quan Chi, who convinced him to join at their side, in exchange for new life. Scorpion refused, knowing Sub-Zero would be involved. However, Quan Chi informed him that Sub-Zero wasn’t as noble as Scorpion knew. He in fact took part of the slayings. Enraged, Scorpion broke his vow, and sided himself with Shinnok and Quan Chi.

He found Sub-Zero, and confronted him about the issue. Scorpion felt lied to and his rage fueled him as he conquered Sub-Zero. He stood before him, ready to burn him to death, after being lied to for so many years. Then, he heard a laugh, and discovered Quan Chi was watching. Sub-Zero told Scorpion that Quan Chi was indeed, the true killer. Quan Chi openly admitted it, and began to send Scorpion back to the Netherrealm.

Scorpion looked at Sub-Zero with familiar guilt. He gestured him that he was thankful for the truth, and that he will always remember his vow. He then made haste to grab Quan Chi, and both of them were transported to the Netherrealm. The next 5 years were spent tormenting Quan Chi around the Netherrealm. He had to deal with Drahmin and Moloch, two oni that Quan Chi hired to impede Sub-Zero’s progress.

Eventually, Scorpion followed Quan Chi to the acid bath, where he escaped to by escaping through a portal in the Netherrealm. Scorpion fought, but was overwhelmed by Quan Chi’s amulet power. He was killed and sent back to the Netherrealm. He acquired a new body and went back into Earthrealm again.

There, he tracked Quan Chi to Shang Tsung’s palace, and did battle with the two ambushing oni. He was overpowered, unfortunately, and was cast into the soulnado. Fortunately, he escaped the void just in time. He then saw a sight to behold, the Elder God’s. They told him everything that transpired, the return of the Dragon King to resurrection of Earth’s warriors. The Elder God’s then transformed Scorpion into their champion, and sent him to stop the Dragon King. In return, they would resurrect his clan, including his family. Scorpion complied, and sent out to defeat Onaga.

Scorpion tracked down Onaga, and took down his Tarkatan’s with ease. He fought the Dragon King, managing to cripple him, but not kill him. This did however, stop him from invading the other realms. He then confronted the Elder God’s demanding his prize. They did indeed give him what he wanted, but not exactly as he expected. Instead of a full resurrection into humans, they resurrected them as ghouls.

Scorpion was horrified, this was not as he expected. Scorpion went into hiding, unable to comprehend the situation. There he met Daegon, who offered him another proposition. Stop Taven’s progress, and he’ll have them fully resurrected into human form. Scorpion hesitated, but eventually agreed. He found Taven walking along the paths of the Edenian cliffs. Scorpion put all his efforts into stopping Taven, but he managed to come over every obstacle.

In desperation, Scorpion combated Taven, but failed to defeat him. Further discouraged, Scorpion disappeared into obscurity. He wandered the plains of Edenia, when he saw various warriors rushing towards something. He stopped to gather everything his disillusioned mind could.

Then he saw Sub-Zero.

He thought back to those many years ago, when he made a vow to the younger Sub-Zero, to protect him. He had indeed grown stronger throughout the years. Scorpion felt an inner fire in himself, the fire of combat. With a sly smile, Scorpion charged towards the competition.

Should he die on the battlefield, he intended to die like a warrior.
