You know, if they retooled Ermac to be a girl, it WOULD make sense, I mean...being a creature made out of dead souls means you don't really have a set gender.

I think he means with red being the dominant color. Normally she wears mostly black and red is just the trim.
Personally, I would prefer it that way. That much red is just too bright for a chick whose look is basically supposed to be "skimpy leather goth chick". But hey, if the leg does turn out to be Sareena, I can live with that, because I'll just be glad to have Sareena in the game at all.

This is possibly the most interesting twist I've ever heard about an MK character and it has my full endorsement. Androgynous Ermac would be pretty insane.
I'm adding this to my "thing-that-are-never-going-to-happen-to-MK-but I-wish-they-would" list.

I would hate the idea of changing Ermac to a female. It's pointless and just fucks with my second favorite character of who I've become so accustomed to.

I don't mean a pure female, just androgynous. Like Gabriel in the Constantine film. He wouldn't have tits or anything.

I'd rather not have to deal with sexually confused Ermac jokes. Just leave him alone, give him a good story and a cool new costume.

Sorry to keep you waiting. Yeah, I drew it, just to get an idea on what Sareena might look like if she was in the game and if that was her leg. I probably could have spent more time on it, but I'm glad a few people like it.

It's a recolor of either Sindel or Jade. No way Sareena or Kira makes it in over either one of them.

Maybe they could do him like Loki, and every other game he switches between male and female

Personally I'm not wild about the idea of meddling with an established trademark just for the sake of doing it (especially not now that he finally has a good design), but it might make for an interesting and unique costume alt (male/female). Not a terrible concept.

Who says someone like Sareena would be replacing them? She could be in addition to Sindel and Jade. And I'd support that 110% of the way.

Right now, I'm almost skepticle on all fronts.
If you look at the boot, without the black knee pad part, that looks a LOT like an MK2 style of boot that Kitana, Jade and Mileena had. Of course, looking at pictures from characters in past games, it becomes VERY obvious that it's not Sheeva and somewhat obvious that it's not Sindel.
Of course, it could be Jade, but I just think that her style has progressed beyond such a basic look. She does have the loin cloth, but I think that she's developed a style of her own and to me, this is a step back style-wise for Jade.
Kira's alt in Deception had a red boot like this, but honestly, the only way I see the MK team putting Kira in this game is if they felt really strongly about the fact that they needed to redeem her from what she was before (you know, the zero original moves of her own issue). But would they even bother? My guess is no.
That leaves Sareena and while I think it's certainly possible, I just don't know. Her primary color is black and while she's used red before, she's also used a sort of maroon color as well. Plus, her style is just a bit off for this picture to make sense.
Sure, that's nitpicking, but to me, the inherent MK2-ness of the style and given what she looked like in Armageddon... I dunno. Possible? Sure. I just don't think that it's the mortal lock that others here seem to think it is.
As for Skarlet/Ruby: The only thing that I wonder is... Would Boon actually reveal a brand new character this early in the development cycle? I mean, it sounds like 95% of this game will be from returning MK characters, why spoil one of the few surprises so early?
It's certainly still a mystery, but my guess (though I'm already assuming that I'm wrong) is that it's Skarlett/Ruby. It's been said already that rumored characters from the past might be in now when they weren't before, and if she was a red swap of them, well, that boot would fit the style.
Plus, while Sareena's certainly a possibility, no one else really makes sense at all, I don't even think that it makes that much sense for Sareena either.
Hopefully we'll find out soon!

While I agree with mostly everything you said, Rufus and El Fuerte were released in Capcom's second trailer (first gameplay trailer) for Super Street Fighter 4. We've already seen gameplay, and Netherrealm Studios has more of a tendency to release Concept Arts than Capcom does, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was Skarlet/Ruby.

I hope its skarlet b/c frankly i dont think Sareena is all that great, and even though I'd love to see Kitana or Mileena in a different color, i dont think itd make sense to do it in this game.
If they had the red Kitana in Deception then it would have worked... but back in time nahhhh

Remember how back in the days Sindel sprites were shot while she was dressed in RED. Then the purple was added for the final game. (At one point I even think they were goin for a Orange and Black theme).
Baybe it's just a tricked picture were the changed the color to send us on a flase path.
Who knows....
What worries me is that again, another character will be wearing a cloth.
They should rename the game Kloth Kombat.

Didn't they give everyone a crotch flap in MKD and MKA too? HOW COME NO ONE GETS AN ASS FLAP!?!?
Anyway, I hope it's not a new character. They need to make sure the returning characters who you know we're going to see constantly don't suck first.

I wouldn't put too much credence into brand new characters, or even post-MK3 characters at first.
I think if there's going to be a new MK character, it'll be through DLC. Ed Boon called DLC potential "a great opportunity for either a brand new character that nobody's ever seen before or bringing back a character that was in MK4 or later".
Ugo.com similarly states they were told "they're building the initial on-disc roster out of characters from Mortal Kombat 1-3" and anything else would be DLC.
I know it's been said too that the roster is locked and they know all the initial cast that will appear. Though I wouldn't be surprised if characters of that "era", including MK: Mythologies (such as Sareena, Quan Chi, and maybe even Fujin and Shinnok) either made strong appearances or replaced some of the more unpopular or redundant characters.
Though I think we can rest easy knowing Jarek, Hsu Hao, and Kobra probably won't be popping in at all.

I think they will look at SF4 character selection as a model. E.g mostly classics character, with a couple of obscure character from the less popular games, and 2-3 totally new+original characters to mix it up.
It's a good mix. They should use it.
