The island of stupid vs. evil

I was speaking with a friend of mine the other day and we were talking about how painfully idiotic some people can be. We decided to build an island and have all the stupid people in the world shipped there. (obviously it would be a ridiculously large island) The plan seemed good until one of my other friend had to interject and tell us how evil this is, I basically said "I can live with that" in response.

So here is my question to all of you:

If you had absolutely no choice but to be one or the other, would you rather be stupid or evil? Edit: TTT and several others have made me realize that I need to be specific so here we go. Stupid (for the purpose of this poll) should be defined as slow, careless, and seemingly incapable of logical thought. Evil should be thought of as uncarring and or thoughtles of others especialy in pursuit of your own personal gain. Does that work for everyone?

When you say stupid what do you mean by it? Reason I ask is that "stupid" can be used to mean something like "does not know much" or "incapable of learning." The former is more akin to ignorance but often the two words are freely swapped.

A very good point TTT I guess I wasn't taking that into account. I was going more by the dictionary definition that I have often reference which is:

#1 Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
#2 Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.

While I agree that ignorance is different than stupidity it is often near impossible to tell the difference between the two, due to the fact that ignorant people often do not seek to educate themselves and therefore end up acting in a stupid manor. As far as which one is worse, I would say ignorance.

It should be noted as well, that this thread is meant in good fun, and not as a serious judgement of the world. It is a simple experiment to get to know all of you a little better.

Edit: Xtactics: I like your idea as well so I will comment more on it later on also

I will comment a little more on your first point after I have a few more posts (it is a very good point), I do not want to ruin my little experiment by directly addressing the conundrum this early on. However I believe that in my story I explained that I would choose evil over stupid if I absolutely had too.

Thanks to everyone who has commented so far, this is turing out to be very fun. Edit: Also I edited a couple of my previous posts, because I realized that this is more fun than I though. I beleive I will be a little more specific in my opening post as well.

I'd like to challenge Kombatveteran's argument that evil and intelligence are mutually exclusive. I think therein lies the problem with this issue. The assumption here is that a stupid person is incapable of doing any harm and that an evil person is capable of doing quite a bit.

So is the question between being generally good natured but stupid (meaning you are good but don't have the mental capacity to spread it very far) or highly intelligent but with evil intent (meaning you not only have a will to do harm but the capability to enact it on a large scale)?

not true. most serial killers are very intelligent,calculating,and rational. look at people bundy, daumer, and gacey. sure most all of them got caught but how can you get away with killing twenty or thirty people by being stupid? also jack the ripper and the zodiac killer were never caught.

You are both missing the point. This is a simple survey where you only have two optional answers, it is not a debate about the nature of good and evil. You are over thinking it. I was simply saying given a the choice of the two faults (stupidity or evil) which would you choose if you absolutely had to have one or the other. I never said that either were exclusive or that they were dependant on one another. A person can certainly be both good and intelligent as well as evil and stupid. But for the purpose of this ficticious question I am asking you to make a difficult choice, not to use logic to work around making a choice, understand?

Let me simplify:
Imagine that you have two paths in front of you and they are clearly marked. One will lead you to lving a life of inteligence and evil, while the other will lead you to be good yet very stupid. There is no way to avoid taking a path and sitting still is impossible. Which path would you choose given that you have no other options, no middle path?

i'm talking about the concept of evil in the most basic sense.
i never said that evil men are idiots.
however what i am saying is that evil clouds good jugement and that is what prevents true intellect

Knowing me, It will be evil and a lot of dead people whom like to dissent.

Then I would take the survivors and make my own verison of Cobra.


Also I would convert the lsland into my homebase then make several hidden bases thru out the world. So if they get any bright ideas of using nuclear weapons to elimate my homebase on my island, they will not destroy my masterplan and organization by nuclear weapons.
