Notorious B.I.G. 1972 - 1997 (RIP Biggie Smalls)

Yeah I just saw the Notorious B.I.G movie "Notorious" and I don't have to tell you how sweet it was. As a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time B.I.G fan it was a long time coming. When the songs came on I sang them than again so did about everyone else in the theater. I shit you not every person there was getting on the songs. The acting was tight and I guess I am being a little partial lol.

Then the inevitable happened... Some dumb ass who can't seem to let go yelled about how B.I.G was this how B.I.G was that. Fuck the East Fuck Puff blah blah blah. And a fight broke out in the theater right about at the end. When they show Biggie being escorted through Brooklyn. They played Hypnotized as the last song and the ENTIRE theater broke out in near riots!!!!

The police had to come and break it up! Ya'll just let IT GO!! I hate how what was a tight chill environment turned to a riot. I met some cool people watching it and everything was chill. Then well .

So I caution you if you decide to watch this movie cause a fight MIGHT just break out!

So aside from everything
I give it a perhaps partial 10/10
But I guess an unbiased opinion a 7/10

Only cause the actor who they got to play Biggie seemed to over act a little but he did have a lot of his mannerisms down.

So go see it especially if your a Biggie fan.

I knew somethin' like this would happen somewhere.

...I expected New York or Philly. But in Arizona, though? That's kind of shocking.

you've probably never been to Arizona. It's not like everyone's a hick farmer lol.

I heard this movie was amazing, I really want to go see it. btw, did this fight happen down by AMC 30? I've seen alot of fights down there, wouldn't shock me if the riot happened there

I can't believe I missed opening weekend. I'll see it. That movie is a MUST-see, good or bad. I know they foung the best look alike they could for Big, but I'm interested in the guy playing Tupac too. I wonder if they showed the shootings in the end.

I saw the movie at Metro Mall's Harkins Theaters which was a bad idea. I don't know if you've been there. It's where all the "ghetto" people go to. And the cops are usually there anyways yeah its a bad place to be at night. And I decided to go there to watch it. VERRRRRY smart on my part.

And it is pretty graphic when they show Biggie getting shot . And they dont show Tupac getting shot at the end. But they do show him gettin shot earlier in the movie right in the head. It is a really cool movie but its sad knowing whats gonna happen at the end. The way they build up Biggie getting shot is really cool and its really haunting to like you know its gonna happen and its sad

See babe? If you'd just waited for me we could've gone to the Superstition Springs Harkins- where the preppies go- and everything would've been all gravy in the train. But nooo you had to go to the one in Phoenix.

LOL J/K. I love you, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and I'm glad you are home safe!

I hope this story isn't too off topic.

So normally my friends and I will wait after the credits of a movie because we hate when there are additional scenes that we missed. As we were waiting for the end of the Cloverfield credits, our theatre had to be emptied because someone in it needed medical attention. Lame.

Why can't people just chill over movies?

RE: Just saw the movie Notorious and the cops break up a fight!!!

It all goes back to the stupid East Coast vs West Coast thing. That IMO Tupac instigated. Well Tupac and the media who kept adding fire to the flames. In the movie they show different people saying Fuck the East Coast Fuck the West Coast fuck puff fuck Snoop blah blah blah. And having lived in that time period people over here HATED Biggie cause he was from the East. At a time when Dr. Dre Snoop Ice Cube were ruling the air waves. And Vice Versa over in New York they never played Dr or Snoop. So all while this is going on Tupac puts out a record called "hit em up" which he talks about having sex with Faith Hill Biggies wife and how he kills Biggie and takes all his money. Which angers Biggie than he releases a song called "Who Shot Ya" right around the time when all this started. Tupac was set to do an interview at a building where Biggie was recording. Tupac went up to see Biggie and along the way Biggie sent someone to meet up with Pac and Tupac ends up getting shot and mugged. Shot in the head so when Biggies guy finally makes it down to Tupac he thinks it was Biggie who set him up. And that basically started The East Coast West Coast thing.

And there are some people apparently who can't let go of the beef that never ever was about coasts. It was about 2 people and a disagreement. And being so close to the west here in Arizona some asshole had to mouth off about Fuck Biggie and etc. Then fights broke out people are still sensitive about this which is pretty dumb if you ask me. Like just let it GO Chris would want all this just to go away. Remember the man not the character of Biggie Smalls remember Christopher Wallace is what I say. Go see it and remember the man.

To better understand here are the 2 songs by Tupac and Biggie.

Hit em up
Who Shot ya

But don't let all this shit stop you from watching it. The people who they got to play the characters were pretty good. I didn't feel like who they got to play Puff was really Puff thats just me. But who they got to play Lil' Kim actually looked like her and had that nasty sexy attitude. She was hot!

I don't intend to go see this movie for any reason, and now, you've just given me one. Even though I shouldn't jump to conclusions too fast, I'm not taking any chances.

Even though, I never wanted to see this movie because it's not my taste.

In the beginning, Tupac and Biggie were friends. Tupac more the mentor to Biggie. Tupac gives Biggie tips of the trade, which is kinda what you'll hear Tupac talking about in the song ("stole my style"). But this is not exclusive, Tupac is not the only influence on Biggie of course. But one thing that Biggie does admit that he got from Tupac, is a formula for a successful album. Understand that they were friends at the time, and this "style" is mutually seen as advise given to a friend to make Biggie more successful. Friends do that....friends have those kinds of conversations so there's nothing wrong with that at the time.

Then, with the west coast artists dominating the air waves at the time, a little birdie starts chirping in both their ears. Biggie pretty much ignores the "he said she said" as does Tupac. That doesn't stop the media, and hip-hop populous all over the country from believing that there actually is a EastCoast//WestCoast beef happening though (look at it like the anticipation for the Superbowl, or like Mike Tyson vs Hollyfield...but bigger). And so, knuckleheads, and instigators take it upon themselves to create this "beef" between the two friends, even though there was really nothing there.

So, that's where you get random assholes acting hostile towards Biggie or towards Tupac, and since some of these assholes are from New York, or from California....them crossing with Tupac or Biggie means uncalled for friction. At the same time though, even though Tupac or Biggie may not have had anything to do with the random acts of hostility, those random assholes that take shots at the other party make it seem as though they represent Biggie or Tupac when they commit the act. And thus, also representing "their side" East or West......

So, as stated, Tupac happens to be scheduled for studio time in the same building that Biggie was already at, and on a different floor of that building.
Biggie sees Tupac coming to the building from the street off a balcony he was standing on during a break in studio time. It's been said that Biggie was still under the impression of some semblance of friendship between them, so he sends a couple of his guys down to the street to meet Tupac, and bring him up to the studio were Biggie is. Well Biggies friends, on the elevator ride down to the lobby are unaware of Tupac getting shot or anything. But, Tupac gets shot in the chest and head and shit by some random assholes that "represent" the EastCoast and "Biggie" so they might have said. (I think he took about 5 shots or something) But he didn't die.....he got pissed off. After he recovered is when that song "Set it off" was produced.

This sets at least a few hundred thousand people in motion so that they choose sides in the hip hop community. Either opting to side with Tupac, or Biggie (East or West -- Death Row or Bad Boy). Note that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, and others associated with Death Row Records were the bigger influence at the time. They represented rebellion to a larger scale than Biggie, Puff Daddy, Jr Mafia, and Bad Boy Records at that time.

The whole thing was stupid in hindsight, of course. But at the time, it was serious shit that effected all walks of race, age, color, and creed. People were getting shot up and shit even around my hood over this situation....and I'm in the midwest.

I haven't seen it yet but, beyond that, I think you should go see the movie. And when you watch it, keep in mind that hip hop boomed around this shit. So it wasn't just them that was involved in it....it was every young person in America that held an interest in Hip Hop being influenced by it. The media fueled it, and hostility was the allure that ultimately ended it.
---

I'm not surprised to hear about people fighting over this still. Some people lost loved ones over this shit. And besides that, you see this behavior about anything that people may be passionate about.

Some people hated Tupac because he ran his mouth alot. But other people loved him because of his message, and his story.

Some people hated Biggie because they felt he bit off Tupac to become a success. Other people loved him because he embodies a beautiful hip-hop success story.

Violence, Sex, Drama....it's been selling since the beginning of time man.

haha...

There's still a crap load left out, and some specifics that I chose to omit, but that's about the just of it. At least if only to get a vague, very general understanding of what the whole situation represents. Don't need specifics to accomplish that.

RE: Just saw the movie Notorious and the cops break up a fight!!!

I think it was The Source Awards when both Biggie's crew and Death Row's crew were there and Outkast won for album of the year or something and were welcomed by a loud uproar of BOOOOOOOOOOOOs!! The event was held in New York in hostile ground. I can remember what Snoop said well almost " East coast aint got no love of us! Ya'll dont got no love for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg? Yall dont love us? Yall dont love us? Well Fuck YOU!" in hostile ground.

Just another example how serious and ridiculous it got. They should have had the Outkast thing in the movie. Just goes to show you that this beef was all over the place. If there hating on Outkast which were based in Atlanta.

What really pisses me off about this is. People probably will never remember Christopher Wallace but The Notorious B.I.G and the whole East/West Coast beef. Like both Tupac and Biggies legacy are somewhat tainted by it . Freaking instigators I hate them.

I'm not a biggie or Tupac fan, that kind of hip-hop
never appealed to me. But nevertheless I am
compelled to see this film. One reason I guess
is because Naturi Naughton, former member
of 3LW (I use to love them) is in it, and I want
to see how she does acting as Lil' Kim, who I hear
is not pleased with the way she was portrayed.
(Not as if I care. She's a plastic ho-bag anyway)

Saw it.

Very good movie, not great though. But then again, once you take away the hype from the East//West coast turmoil that existed during just about the majority of that movies time frame, there really isn't much left now is there?

There was a good chunk of over acting. And I think the movie could have seemed more dangerous than it did. Especially after the first Pac shooting. But it still did fine with escalating things though. Some of the character portrayals were interesting. They pretty much nailed Faith Evans.
