Sure, this should be fun. I'll list my characters, but in order to explain why I'd want them to be on my perfect roster, I guess it kinda helps to describe what I'd see as my perfect MK game. I mean, having a character back "just because they're cool" or whatever isn't enough for me. Jax has some awesome moves, doesn't mean I want to try and shoe horn the OIA in to yet another game.
So anyways, here we go:
Scorpion: I want to see him human, with his non-ninja name as champion of the Elder Gods. Of course, when he destroyed Blaze, the Gods interceded and dispersed his power across the realms, using the power to finally destroy the portals to other worlds. Scorpion's angry that though he's made human, he's basically forced into servitude.
Sub Zero: If his age is advanced by the amulet, then I want to see him really old in this game. He should be the good guy "lone sage" of this game, a bit skinnier, but still with some muscle on him. He wouldn't be with the good guys team or whatever, but he'd help a new, younger character take his place, either in the Lin Kuei or in MK in general.
Rayden: He should be the main antagonist. The final boss. He needs to be a bit more bulked up, but not super sized like Blaze was. I'd like to see him get to a point that with Liu Kang gone and no one "worthy" of taking his place, he just decides that the best way of defending Earth is to destroy it, end the greed, corruption and evil that he sees as rotting it from within and start it over. In his mind, he wants to destroy the world to save it.
Shang Tsung: I want him to be the Chosen One to replace Liu Kang for the good guys. He's reluctant and basically evil, but he was from Earth originally and now faced with the fact that he can't take Earth for himself, but that it might be unmade entirely (and he's trapped there, as all portals are closed by the Gods), he must fight.
Kung Lao: I want to see him return in a way that allows him to focus on what it means to NOT be the chosen one. He'd be a loner here, and he'd go down a dark path. Sub Zero turns him away when Kung Lao asks to train with him. Perhaps this would help him in to a decision to betray the good guys and side with Rayden.
Noob: There are so many places to put him, but I'd actually like to focus on the Brotherhood of the Shadow and his own designs for Earthrealm. Think of him as the "alternate evil" in this perfect game of mine.
Shao Khan: I want him to be reduced significantly. No more giant muscles and sledgehammer. My version of Shao Khan would be that of a fallen despot who's lost everything. He lives in the shadows, as his name is now more or less a cuss word. Starving and near his end, with no allies in sight, he'd enter the next tournament as a last resort to regain what he's lost.
Kabal: Along with Kira, they remade the Black Dragon in to the most feared underground terrorist organization in the world. But Kabal abruptly leaves the Black Dragon, disappearing for nearly two years without a trace. The first time anyone's seen the nomad is at the tournament. Where he went and for what reason remain a mystery.
Fujin: You can't have an evil god without the requesite good god. Fujin becomes the protector of Earth, defying all of the gods will including Rayden. He'd be the one to guide Earth's warriors in the next tournament, but if he has to, he'll throw down with Rayden himself.
Kai: I like him because he's more or less the type of character that could be great if he wanted to be, but he seems to have an internal conflict of who he really is. I could see him with a look similar to the guy Liu Kang fought in the first MK movie with the long dreads. Give him full on capoiera style and this type of inner conflict, plus being torn between his spiritual guide Rayden and saving Earth and I'd be very interested in finding out where he lands.
Drahmin: I REALLY want to see what happened after he got out of Quan Chi's chamber. I want to see him as a human, ex-demon, who decides to try and fight his inner instinct to be evil and actually exist in a world that's new and strange to him. He becomes a member of the order of the Shaolin to find inner peace. The rage comes out of him though with this betrayal by Rayden. Will he lose himself to his own insanity? I dunno, I think that Drahmin has potential.
Mavado: The Red Dragon's gone and Mavado was killed by Kira in a sneak attack. However, he was rescued from the Netherealm and brought in to the Brotherhood of the Shadow by Noob. Now with a darker, more sinister look (though still with the trench coat), he fights alongside Noob, but he still wants revenge on Kira and the Black Dragon for killing him. He also might want control of the Brotherhood of the Shadow to accomplish the latter.
Li Mei: I could also see her dying and coming back, but instead of going to the Netherealm, she comes from the Heavens along with Rayden. She believes in him and that what he's doing is right. She's seen the other side and believes that everyone will be better off. Of course, she doesn't know yet that unmaking reality means that Rayden wants to destroy the Heaven's as well.
Nitara: I think that she has a lot of potential. I'd ditch the wings and put her in a plot that involves the good guys. I'd want her to be a sort of exotic (by that I mean mercurial, not slutty) spy for the good guys who pretends to be on the side of evil. She's basically playing a dangerous game, but no one quite knows to what end. Who's side is she really on and why?
Kenshi: With Ermac destroyed in Armageddon, Kenshi is once more left to wander the world. Fujin wants him to be the champion of Earthrealm but wishes that he wasn't so arrogant. Kenshi will have to overcome his own personal demons if he's to have any chance at winning the tournament.
Kira: With the Red Dragon eradicated, Kira and Kabal recruited more and more foot soldiers in to what became nothing less than a small army. But without warning, Kabal vanishes. After two years, Kira, now in complete control of the Black Dragon seeks out answers to where her teacher (and possibly lover?) went and why. It's basically 50/50 whether she wants him to stay gone.
Sareena: Again, a character that can be put in so many different plotlines. I'd like to see her with the good guys though. She'd be with Kenshi, Kai, Shang Tsung, Drahmin and Nitara as sort of the last line of defense for Earth. I see her as also being with Drahmin, two people that understand what it's like to resist their demon sides. Maybe some sort of effed up love story?
