Mortal Kombat Invades the PlayStation Network Store!

The PS3 Full Games category just got bigger as Mortal Kombat joins the digital store with their latest catalogue update to the PlayStation Network [via PlayStation.Blog]!

Available for $49.99 on the US store (£29.99/€39.99 in Europe), the game download is 9.8G. PlayStation Plus users will be able to access a free sixty minute trial version of the game, as part of their package [as a full download]. As you would expect, this PS3 version of Mortal Kombat comes with the much discussed exclusive guest character, Kratos, of God of War fame.

Online play and an award winning story mode are promoted parts of this complete game. A plethora of downloadable contents are also available on the PlayStation Network store.

Kombat will continue on the PlayStation per the recently announced Mortal Kombat for PS Vita. NetherRealm Studios Creative Director, Ed Boon, says, "The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011's Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita." I have a question about this. say if we already have data from the disc version on our PS3 and then we download the PSN version as well,will the data we already have on our consoles be used for the PSN version? or will it be like starting completely fresh? btw,I'm asking because I already have the game 100 percent complete!

Thats a great question. I would believe, your save file should still work for the DL version of the game.

On another note.

What I like about sony and microsoft doing this is that. You don't have to worry about going somewhere and them being out of the game.

The downside to this is that. Games take up way too much hd space, and if you don't have a really good high speed connection, you're going to be waiting a while for your games to download.

So, thats my pro's and con's. In the end, I would rather have the disc version of the game. But to each their own. This really is a good idea for those who just cant 't find a game anywhere.

I am going out on a limb here and say. If the game comes with the DLC, you probably still have to buy them to play as them.

Wait, so $50 for the full game, but $60 for Komplete, and all the DLC purchased separately still costs $20?

They've turned into Capcom.

I'm glad I sold my copy of MK.

Once I get a larger harddrive hopefully I can get this for my Xbox, they have it on XBL, right? Since my disk tray is no longer working. Well, I possibly may even get a ps3 or something.

This could technically be BETTER than the komplete edition.
It is only 50 bucks instead of 60 and IF you had the DLC already, then this one would be a good buy for friends.

If I buy this, I can gameshare with 5 different friends and all 5 people will have a copy of MK for the price of 50 bucks. The DLC will also be free to them if you gameshare the DLC characters.

5 ppl will have MK9, 5 ppl will have all 4 DLC characters and it will only cost 50 bucks. 10 bucks per person for mk9 with all DLC.

If they ever stop supporting the service you're out of luck in terms of getting the game again + no word on whether all DLC characters and costumes will be present in this version either.

I got my copy of Mortal Kombat off Amazon for $30 brand new, just my opinion, but I like to own a hard copy of my games, plus with MK Komplete Edition coming out, that is your best bet, it's the same price, but you're guaranteed all the content.

I don't know how much it would fairly equate for, but lets not forget that in the absence of physical packing, there's digital storage and upkeep. The cost doesn't completely evaporate. There might still be some sort of licensing fee from Sony, I don't know.
