RE: Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion Tournament 2018!

I went with Jax because he's a core favorite of mine.

BUT...NItara is a character that I want to see return. She has huge potential and I want to see some expansion on her lore and how she factors into things. Obviously with a civil war going on in Outworld, there will be warriors taking sides. I'd be willing to be she falls on the side of Outworld, but you never know. I get the impression from the arcade endings of MKX that the Black Dragon/Red Dragon conflict will be a major focal point, as will be the Outworld/Edenia War. Where she will fall on that conflict remains to be seen. MKDA painted her as a villainous character whose home realm could be a future, dangerous adversary for earthrealm.

I like Nitara, but she doesn't even come close to Jax.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 1:
Ashrah versus Cyrax
#47 Supreme Ranking #16
1 win 5 losses Record 10 wins 6 losses
Round 2 (2017) Best Result Round 3 (2013)

Though unseen in the present timeline: Ashrah was a demon of the Netherrealm who dared question the order of Quan Chi. Escaping her sisters and the Brotherhood of Shadow, she discovered an enchanted kriss that purified her evil spirit with every demon she slayed. Possession of the Datusha blade drew her into conflict with Nitara and the vampires of Vaeternus. She was last seen pursuing ascension on the eve of Armageddon. Her current fate is unknown.

Cyrax was a reluctant participant in the Lin Kuei's process of converting warriors into pre-programmed cyber-assassins. Appearing in Mortal Kombat X tie-in comics: Cyrax was seen serving the new Grandmaster Sektor -- until Kuai Liang returned to the clan to deprogram him. With Sektor's destruction, Cyrax became the new leader of the Lin Kuei, but instead chose to self-destruct in order to give the clan a fresh start under Sub-Zero. The resulting explosion destroyed the remaining cyber-assassins. Cyrax remains deceased, but his digital profile lives-on in Triborg.

Though wildly different, each warrior has gone to extremes in the name of redemption! Ashrah hunted her fellow demons to seek purification, while Cyrax chose self-destruction to destroy his fellow cyber-assassins. Will conflict in Netherrealm draw Ashrah into battle with or against a digitally resurrected Cyrax? Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

Yaaaaas well done Nitara :)

Cyrax.

Solid character gameplay wise and story though not my favourite. Shame he died in the comics id like to aee how he would have led the Lin Kuei.

Ashrah for me was pretty much a lackluster Sareena ripoff stpry wise. Her look is decent enough tho i guess.
A QuanChi assassin seeking to escape and get redemption - Sareena did that, and the kriss thing wasnt enough of a difference for me. I wouldnt miss her from the current timeline.

Anyway, voted for Ashrah because I find her more interesting than Cyrax

Though I picked Nitara last round I'm completely shocked she won. Jax's run in MKX is my favorite Jax of all time but I'm still a Nitara mark and I'm pining for her return to the series.

With this one I chose Cyrax. Ashrah is alright though and I'd like to see her too.

Shao Kahn did nothing wrong

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 1:
Kung Lao versus Stryker
#12 Supreme Ranking #50
11 wins 6 losses Record 1 win 6 losses
Quarters (2012) Best Result Round 2 (2012)

Kung Lao spent Mortal Kombat X serving Quan Chi as one of the Netherrealm revenants invading the Earth. The once trusted Shaolin monk became a soldier for Shinnok leading a charge against Raiden and the doors of the Sky Temple! He was last seen fighting a new generation of heroes, but his MKX ending proposes a possible future where Kung Jin helped him cleanse his spirit of evil, escaping the Netherrealm.

New York cop Stryker was another of Earthrealm's protectors to perish in the new timeline. A revenant of the Netherrealm, he aided Shinnok in his first invasion of the Sky Temple. Twenty-five years later he battled the Special Forces in Netherrealm, unseen after the capture of Quan Chi. Stryker was an unplayable presence in Mortal Kombat X, awaiting an unseen fate in the Netherrealm.

Once great heroes, their souls are now bound to an afterlife of evil in the Netherrealm! Could Kung Lao's Shaolin spirit break the ties that bind and make him an enemy to Stryker and a new regime in Hell? Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

Kung Lao

Another favourite of mine. Always found him more interstimg than Liu Kang and i like the semi rivalry between those two in the MK9.

Stryker is an ok character. Not brilliant but not awful like some
Middle of the road for me. Armageddon and MK9 improved him quite a bit. But hes drawn a short straw here.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 1:
Kung Jin versus Shujinko
#59 Supreme Ranking #65
0 wins 3 losses Record 0 wins 7 losses
Round 1 (2015) Best Result Round 1 (2014)

Kung Jin put his life as a thief behind him to honor the legacy of his bloodline as a new face of the Shaolin! The skilled archer joined a new generation of Special Forces as they ventured into Outworld, confronting its new Emperor on the way to thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok! A heroic soul, Kung Jin fought for the life of a petty thief who stole to survive. He was last seen confronting Netherrealm revenants in an effort to defend the Sky Temple.

In the original timeline, he was manipulated into resurrecting The Dragon King. In Mortal Kombat X tie-in comics: a new reality reveals Shujinko as a master of the Kang Temple. There he safeguards the Kamidogu Dagger of Chaosrealm, drawing him into a grand scheme orchestrated by Havik! Corrupted by the chaos cleric's blood code, Shujinko fought Takeda and Scorpion. The details of his new past and future remain unknown.

They are the old and new faces of the Shaolin warrior order, tainted by their corrupt actions. Kung Jin walks a path of light, but where will Shujinko stand in the future? Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

Shujinko was great. I loved his adventure and I think it's one of the most memorable MK part for me.

Shujinko.

Kung Jin was the best written of the new comers.

Kung Jin.

He was a pretty decent addition to the game and interested me more that the other 3 "new gen" characters.

Shujinko was a poorly executed character imo. His overall storu was fine but the story telling or individual parts and his look and gameplay were really bad. He coulda been so much better. It would be interesting to see what they did with him in the new timeline.

I voted Kung Jin because...
I just don't care for Shujinko at all and Kung Jin is stellar. Also I would be excited for a cousin vs. cousin match next Round.

RE: Supreme Mortal Kombat Champion Tournament 2018!

I would've voted for Kung Lao previously had I not missed yesterday.

This time my vote goes to Kung Jin. I never really got on board with Shujinko. I think I understand what their intention was with the character, but overall he did not resonate with me, and I did not see him as a viable candidate to helm as the lead in the aftermath of Liu Kang's demise. It's best to pass the torch to another seasoned veteran of the series in that event. Instead, it went to a rather uninteresting character that, despite being the main character of Konquest mode, still felt underdeveloped and unrelatable (why does that word show up as wrong?). They then passed the torch to another underwhelming character in Taven, one of my least favorite characters introduced in the 3D era.

Kung Jin came on the scene as one of the highly loathed "descendent" characters. I didn't really like playing as him that much, but he was an interesting addition to the roster. Vs. Shujinko he gets my vote hands down.

TOURNAMENT BATTLE - ROUND 1:
Liu Kang versus Jacqui Briggs
#28 Supreme Ranking #53
4 wins 6 losses Record 1 win 3 losses
Round 3 (2012) Best Result Round 2 (2015)

Liu Kang was Earthrealm's most recent champion of Mortal Kombat, but his untimely death turned the Shaolin monk into one of its newest threats! A revenant under Quan Chi's control; Kang stormed the Sky Temple with Shinnok -- threatening to destroy Raiden and the world they once protected! Liu Kang was last seen in the Netherrealm after Shinnok's defeat, standing by Kitana as they look toward a new regime in Hell, and fresh conflict with Raiden.

Jacqui Briggs is one of a new generation of warriors fighting to defend the Earth! The daughter of Jax followed in her father's footsteps, joining the Special Forces while he toiled in the Netherrealm as a revenant. Jacqui entered Outworld with her team to thwart the efforts of Mileena, and intervene in Quan Chi's efforts to unleash the fallen Elder God - Shinnok! Forced to fight Kotal Kahn and his incursion, she confronted Ermac and Reptile. Jacqui was last seen fighting Quan Chi's revenants, free to reunite with her resurrected father as new hostilities grow.

In different times they might have fought side by side, but the future balance of the realms is uncertain. Jacqui Briggs and the revenant Liu Kang fought in MKX - will renewed hostilities bring about another round? Choose their destiny! FIGHT!

I went with Jacqui this round.

My main reasoning is that she was a main of mine in MKX. I liked her gameplay.

That being said shes a pretty vanilla charcater. Jacqui suffered from being the only one of the newbies to not get a massive big reveal. The others all got their own trailers or big build up. I think this was a disadvantage as she just sort of appeared and it was a bit of a let down. I also hope she gets more of her own story if she returns and is out of Jax and Cassies shadow.

Liu has always been pretty vanilla and boring too but then the main good guy usually is. I do like the revenant twist and am interested to see where he goes with it.
