I only get 27. I'm not counting the 3 spaces on the very very bottom, since they seem to only be the black of the box outlining the names since they was no color alterations the way there is for the rest. 27.

Knowing that your theory is probably right on the money, I think we all need to stick to one thread, and make it as simple as possible, yet clear of the intentions, if you follow me. I think we should narrow the field a bit in terms of who will be in the game, and not create a wishlist of sorts, but use our brains to look at the content that we've seen so far, the interviews, magazines, quotes, ext. and come out with what should be the extra characters based on that information. So if anyone wants to add to this list, please, go ahead and do so. The more help I recieve with this, the better.

Okay now, there we have the main list of playable characters in Deception. Now we have to go through with all the people who can be in the game and who cannot. Some are obvious that they won't be playable because all it takes is common sense. So that brings us to the following characters;

Kung Lao ~ Thought to be featured in the opening of Deception, could have been near death but survived or brought back to life by the Dragon King or still dead.
Kitana ~ In her Trading Kard Bio, it states that she was ressurected by the Dragon King after her death at the hands of the Deadly Alliance and now serves as his personal body guard.
Sonya Blade ~ In her Trading Kard Bio, it states that she never meets up with her Special Forces counterparts, SO that eliminates Jax from being in the assault on Shang Tsung's palace.
Jax ~ Was never involved with the assault on Shang Tsung's palace, so he is probably still alive somewhere.
Johnny Cage ~ Thought to be featured in the opening of Deception, could have been near death but survived or brought back to life by the Dragon King or still dead.
Quan Chi ~ Thought to have teleported away from explosion with Raiden. Could be extremely injured like Raiden, which explains his badly torn and burnt looking costume in the game.
Shang Tsung ~ Thought to have teleported away from explosion with Raiden. Could be extremely injured like Raiden, which explains his badly torn and burnt looking costume in the game.
Sektor ~ After his Tournament Edition appearance and ending, Sektor would be a valuable edition to the kast, and has been "konfirmed" by several sources 'around' the time of E3.
Sareena ~ After her Tournament Edition appearance and ending, Sareena would be a valuable edition to the kast, and has been seen in a picture taken from the Krypt in Deception showing her Render standing in front of the background used in Deception Promo Renders.
Shao Khan (Only a theory) ~ Could possibly be forced into battle alongside the Dragon King. In return for his survices he could get the chance to fight and kill the Deadly Alliance and seek revenge, and then turn on the Dragon King himself and challenge him to Mortal Kombat.
Reptile ~ From his ending, that is an obvious outcry of YES IT HAPPENED, Reptile is probably, definately, almost 99.9% sure IN THIS GAME somehow.
Rain ~ Could be that Rain has turned good and is working alongside Queen Sindel and Jade to rescue Kitana from the clutches of the Dragon King.
EDIT: Also possible Blaze could come back since he played a fairly large role in the Dragon King's story.

Well when I saw that I thought the exact same, but now i dont think they will add the super unlockables however many there are. I also dont think they'll use the bottom lines and probabbly add Noob Saibot and Smoke seperately.
A lot of specualtion has gone round however that there are in 6 super unlockables tho. But nothin is konfirmed.

Its not that they dont have to add them, but I personally take that as a hint. I admitt I never really thought there was going to be so many SSC, but with my theory this time, I think im on to something here.

If there ARE 30, not saying there will be, I'd bet money on the fact that they are Kitana, Jax, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Sektor, and Sareena.

Ok, here's who we know for sure, leaving 6 open spaces, 4 returning, 2 new.

My picks for the new characters are Sareena and Onaga (not playable).

For the returning: Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sektor and Reptile.
Although, looking at it again, there's a distinct possibility that the bottom lines on both are not lines at all, but spaces (like on the top line), which would reduce the number to 3 (2 returning, 1 new) bringing the total characters to 27. If that's true, I'm going with Quan Chi, Shang Tsung and Sareena.

Good Job KenshiMaster, and Bezou. This helps alot, and I think you are right with the new Characters, Bezou, Sareena wasnt well hyped so in a sense she will be a new character for most and Onaga is Surely New!

spike81 - Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, unfortunately. But I've been saying forever that there'd probably only be 2-4 super secret characters anyway.

Still there can be more secret characters. I think it’s not their intension to put the secret characters among the list because then they aren’t secret anymore right?

The development team loves taunting us.

They dont Have to be listed, its just specualtion and Hinting in my opinion. I just thinhk that this si a major possibility.
