Well, who is to say that the new badass who uses "deception" is not a totally new villian all together? The dragon king, shinnok, shang tsung, and shao kahn could all return in this next mortal kombat, but perhaps this new vilian form alliances with all of them, and get's control of the realms by throwing everyone against everyone els. I think that would be more refreshing than having any of the recylced character, because for one you still ahve the old favorities, but secondly, to have a boss be able to boss around, and throw off ALL of these previous bad ass characters, that would make him seem more mischivious and dangerous than anyone ever before.
It's not by any means a new idea, but I think MK could use a new boss... and not a playable character, this boss should be strictly CPU business.

That is interesting to say. In MK 5 they built up that Dragon King story so much and for Midway not to include it would definitely surprise me.
Maybe we will see a totally new boss.

I think a lot of characters fit the role pretty well, but I think we need a really powerful character to take control of the evil side(s) of things this time around.
I think the immediate danger will be the returning Dragon King in Reptile's body. But I also think there will be sub-evil sides of Shao kahn returning to power, as well as a guild to revive Shinnok. Maybe even the Red Dragon could become a powerful deceptive force? If we need a old monster boss to return, I'm with Kintaro or Motaro.
Anyway, I think that every bad character will be involved with some kind of dangerous force, with about 6 different ones threatening Earth Realm. Only one will become the true threat heading into MK7, though, so after MKD we will be kept guessing.

Im just saying old school is the roots, but it's good to throw some fresh air in the mix as well.
And I do agree with you saying that all the previous boss' are capable of carrying mk6, but some with some tweaking... Shinnok being playable crushed his practical ability to be an elder god.. granted a playable boss was a new idea, and that's cool they thought that up... but honestly why try that and make this "playable" character an elder god with no limits on power.
MK6 so far looks more than promising, so im not gonna complain, just offer suggestions.

I don't think you can say it'd be "old hat" if the Dragon King "returned" since he hasn't technically appeared yet, right? You can't just instantly toss him to the side...as if he's not a new, fresh concept for a boss...since he hasn't made an appearance yet.

The Dragon King hasn't been in the games yet. He more than likely will be the boss of MKD. With his story being developed in MKDA, it is unikely that he won't be in the game.
I would like it if he made all the previous bad guys fall at their knees and forced them to either obey him and server him or die. Despite this, Kahn, Shang, Quan and the rest would still ahve their own individual affairs to get on with. With a bit of the Dragon Kings power, they could enact their revenge and affairs to better effect and then maybe fight each other and eventually attack the Dragon King himself. The Dragon King would be the ultimate boss though.
