I originally posted thes on the GameFAQs boards. I thought I repost in the hopes the MK team reads it...

Gone are the days of precise triggers, decent d-pads, and six face button. So why are they still making fighting games for those old controllers?

So I say only make four attack or combo related buttons(3 attack buttons and the stance change button would work). And make all new fighters analog friendly. There's no need to make them d-pad dependent. They are plenty ways to structure moves for the analog stick. See the Killer Instinct moves as a prime example.

And as for the deep trigger buttons, there's ways to compensate for them too. First off, keep the buttons used in combos off the triggers, period. Second, make the button activate when the button in just barely pressed. There are two ways to activate them you see, one being barely pressed and one pressing them way down. PS2 doesn't have that problem, but most other controllers do.

So there you have it. Please stop making fighting games for the Sega Genesis controller. Those are a pain in the ass to find nowadays.

And here's some better controller configurations for the GameCube version. If MK6 is going to be like an Ultimate MKDA, then this stuff might be useful....

Try this for drastically better control.

B : Stance Change

R : Special Move

L : Block

I always keep the above settings, but I change the attack buttons from character to character. Why? Different reasons. Mostly to make the long stance change combos easier. I try to keep all the combo buttons on the face, along with the stance change button. If I have to I'll put the last combo button on Z, that's easier than right in the middle of the combo. And there are other considerations; most used buttons, combo starters, special move buttons, and so on. I’ve spent months mastering MKDA and getting the configuration optimal for each character. So you might want to check this out.

I'll list each character's attack button configuration. Note: I list them in the order they appear in the controller options menu (1,2,3,4). You will know what it means when you do it. I also list the Fatality on the last line because the Fatality button is changed.

A few important points. Changing the configuration messes with certain aspects of the game. Midway didn't program it correctly. So ALWAYS CONTINUE WITH THE START BUTTON, not A or B. They are mixed up now and the game doesn't know it. Also, the in game moves list gets jumbled. But I find it's pretty easy to figure out what it means, especially for MKDA veteran. And always remember to reset to default configuration before attempting Konquest mode, that's scrambled as well.
