When I did Konquest with Kano, it said aikido was created by the founder of the black dragon clan, Morihei Ueshiba. I looked up some info on aikido's history, and found that while Morihei Ueshiba did in fact invent it, he doesnt seem like the kind of guy who would found the black dragon...it said he invented aikido to show that the way of the warrior was to prevent battle, and he was all into tranquility and shit, and i dont think that fits kano's personality, and i dont think Ueshiba would be cool with MK claiming he founded a criminal organization, if he was alive today...he must be spinning in his grave.

yeah. in addition to that, if you know anything about aikido, you know that none of the moves kano does in the game at all resemble anything you do in aikido. i used to practice it when i was a kid, and it's a lot about throws and armholds and circular movements to use the power of your opponent against them by controlling the flow of it. there aren't any kicks or strikes or anything like in mk. it's a pretty sweet martial art actually. it leaves me to wonder how many of the other styles in the game are nothing like their real life counterparts.
I practice Aikido for about 4 years now, and so i was very curious about how they used it in the game. There is not ONE move that has anything to do with Aikido or even looks a bit simular. If the developers spend some more time examaning Aikido they could have made something more of it. There could have been better throws(not only in the Aikido style) and they should have put in some joint locks. Besides that a criminal like Kano doesn't suit this martial art. They better could have give Aikido to someone like Sub zero or Li Mei.
About the information given in Komquest mode: Aikido isn't just a simple combination of Aiki-jutsu, kenjutsu etc. It has techniques which are derived from jujutsu, aiki-jutsu and sword arts but is something completely different. Aikido is all about love, harmony and respect for everything that lives(wondering now why i am playing mortal kombat
) Self defence is just a side effect. This said, describing Morihei Ueshiba as some sort of criminal is a little out of line, lets say its just ignorance of the developers.
The problem with MK DA is that they managed to put in a lot of different martial arts but also made them very, very basic. There will be a lot of more people who play MK DA and also practice a martial art. Because fighting games attract martial artists. And therefore they will also see the differences (and possible resemblences) of what they practice and what they play.
I'm not saying here that MK DA is a bad game, it's not its very good indeed and fun to play(maybe the best fighting game i have ever played) but when it comes to realistic fighting styles in MK DA(i don't care of there are projectiles or other fantasy moves in it, its still MK) they could have studied some of the arts better and put better throws in it.
This is something i hope for in the next episode.

I already have done Judo for 7 years. Now I train Aikido. When I saw that Kano had Aikido too I was quite surprised. But Aikido is hard to put in a game and I didn't see loads of similarities with the real thing.
Since I do Aikido I think it's the most superior martial art. Im not talking about how powerfull or effective it is. I like Martial Arts in common and I will train lots of them. Maybe I start to train Hapkido after a few years too (I thought that up before MkDa). Hapkido has some similarties with Aikido. I also train Aikido with a staff ("Aiki-Jo") and with a sword ("Aiki-Ken")

LOL!
Well, they obviously took liberties with melling the origins into the game. From what I can tell, they used the very basic techniques from all of the styles. I did notice that some techniques were just made up to fit in with the playing style of the game. Now Kung Lao can do a low spin with a broadsword, however I doubt that most of my Gung Fu friends can do that! Hmmmm.....maybe because they made it up! LOL!

Kano doesn't seem like the person to use aikido?!?!? Gouki doesn't seem like the entity to use Karate either but he does.

Hey, how about Geese Howard? He used Aikido too, didn ́t he? It looked more like Aikido than what Kano does, anyway.
I was also surprised to see that whoever ́s in charge of the story (Vogel?) had decided to make Morihei Ueshiba the founder of the Black Dragon in the MK universe. It seems really out of character for him.
All of the throwing based martial arts incorportated into MKDA are incredibly under-developed and really badly portrayed. A throw-based martial art like akido or Judo has potential for some hefty King-esk chain throws (or just lots of complex throws), plus some hefty reversals. In all honesty this under-development is true for all the MKDA martial arts.

I was especially disappointed there were no joint locks at all in Kano's Aikido style too. Ah well, hopefully in MK6!
I have practised Tae-kwon-do for 2 years now, and while the basics are there, the hook kick, side kick etc, and sonya does indeed use a majority of kicks in this style as she should, once again the art seems overly simplified. Then again having said that, what DO we expect from the development team?? we are talking 20+ characters, each with 3 arts to choose from. Thats 60 martial arts to accuratly represent. while we would all love to see our discipline portrayed to the level of understanding that us as practitioners have of it, we have to appreciate, that the development team are not going to be experts on all of the arts, and all things considered I think we got a damn good effort. I don't think any of us would claim we did not enjoy the game, and isn't that the main point?
The thing is having a grab based martial art doesn't combine with the MKDA fighting style. It's more about attack. For example, Aikido, from what I've heard, only has the basic punch (with some variations, but nothing fancy) and the basic kick. That couldn't be done in MKDA. They have to make it more about attacks. I think they should have just left it aside, but some Aikido and Judo fans would be a little upset, so they did. If next time they leave it out, they probably won't be mad.
