Yeah, I know the game's been out for two years but any one else feels the same way? That potential was ruined both story and gameplay wise? I remember being excited at the thought of another trilogy type game and then seeing the cast render was amazing. But the MK team obviously just was using the 64 character roster as nothing but a gimmic. What are your thoughts on MKA's wasted potential?
Yeah, I'm with you.
I played it a fair bit when it came out, even though I knew it hadn't lived up to my expectations. I had very high hopes for the game, but it had such a bare-bones feeling to it like there wasn't really much substance at all with the story, combat system, and especially the fatality system.
I'll think about Armageddon every now and then and even pop it into my Xbox to give it another shot, but it just doesn't cut it. It's not a bad game, but it makes it clear to me how much the 3D games live in the shadow of the 2D games.
Just something missing; a void big enough that all of those 64 characters couldn't fill it.

Quoted for maximum truth!
I play this game solo more often than not, so the one thing that brings me down is how the stages never rotate. I only see the same 7 stages over and over and over... If I want to check out any of the other stages, I have to plug in a second controller and usually there's no one around that wants to mash on this game with me.
The story... I'm not sure what to think. It kind of goes two ways:
1. It's armageddon. It's so epic that you almost NEED an outside character to come in and put an end to all of it.
2. It's armageddon. Time for the characters we know to make their last stand and put an end to all of it.
It's like all the characters we had been following took a backseat to Taven and his whole new plotline. That kind of irks me. I thought it was okay, but it still irks me some. The endings were mostly all crap. Nothing got resolved, loose ends were left dangling, and even more new threads were thrown our way. So much for wrapping everything up.
Gameplay I had no problem with. The Fatality system was a decent idea and could have worked if every character had individual moves. Instead they all just borrowed from the same set of gut-ripping moves.
I never play Motor Kombat.
KAF is decent, but it drives me crazy that I have to buy every last little attack, combo, special move, aerial move, etc. etc. etc. Goddamn, guys! Throw us a bone here. I STILL haven't bought everything!
