Cage - Shades or no shades?

It struck me just now as I was playing MKII just how much better Johnny Cage looks sans his trademark $500 sunglasses (asshole!).
Now that I think of it, he wore them in Trilogy, MK4, and MK:DA...
Back in the day, when he had them off, he looked like he really had something to prove. He looked like he was going to kick some ass, take soem names. When he's got those on, it doesn't even seem like he's taking his fights seriously.
All complaints about the lack of depth to his storyline aside, I think that the loss of his shades, at least during matches, could seriously improve the people's overall opinion of him. He looked great in MKII. Thoughts?
EDIT: This is, of course, presuming he appears in MK: Deception!

I think no shades. And this should probably be in Classic MK Discussion.

You've got a pretty good point there. I wouldn't mind seeing Cage without sunglasses again. But there was a lot of speculation that the fact that Cage never takes off his sunglasses now was related to the legal dispute Midway had with Daniel Pesina. If I remember correctly, Daniel claimed that he was largely responsible for creating the Cage character--he must have wanted a bigger share of the royalties. The theory is that the MK team changed Cage's design (by putting the shades on permanently) to ward off legal trouble. I don't know if that's true, but numerous people suspected it when MK Trilogy came out and Cage had been re-digitized with a different actor and had the sunglasses on.

Agreed, if we see Cage again it should be without the shades...lol I'm beginning to wonder what he has to hide behind them

Just wear em and have it knocked off if u get hit in the face

The shades are a big part of Johnny Cage, and have to stay. But an alternate outfit without them would be cool too. Then everyone's happy.

Of course he should have the shades, although he could easily have an alt costume without them!
Imo, you should never mess with a trdemark. The sunglasses are just one of his. You wouldn't remove Raiden or Kung Laos hats would you? you wouldn't remove Scorpions spear or Subs ice powers. you wouldn't remove Kitanas fans or Sonyas Kiss Fatalities.
The sungalsses are a distinguishing trademark and should stay! Just give him an alt without them and everyones happy.

I say shades, but he takes them off just as he prepares to fight. I just think its kinda unrealistic (I know this is MK and its not suppose to be real.) Do you know how painful it would be if those glasses actually got smashed into his eyes during a fight?
In regards to the legal matter, I don't think that would make much of a difference. If having Johnny became too much trouble, all they would had to do was let him remain dead. I really think the glasses are meant to add a touch of mystery to a basically stale storyline and character. Hopefully the story will pick up some when Johnny makes a return and he is hiding something behind those glasses. Either a black eye given to him by Sonya or the all white eyes of someone who has returned from the dead. (i.e. Sindel, Scorpion.)

His best look was in MK1. No glasses. But of course, in the victory pose.

That's what I've always thought. Along with facial
damage, his shade's should become damaged too.
(Think Matrix when Smith's glasses get broken in the
subway) That would be funny.

Cage in MK1-MK2 was looking serious and bad ass, after he look more like a goof then anything else IMO

johnny cage owns!!!
the shades only add to his ownage.
so in my eyes, yes he should have them on... but to be a realist... if he gets punched in the face they should either break or fall off.

**Edits post so this is relevant to MKD**
Cool view points, dudes. This is what I was hoping for, it looks pretty equal so far. Equal parts yes and no.
What I means was to not have them on during fights, but have him put them on during winposes, like MKI and II, but now, I agree with those who say he should have them on, and get them knocked off when hit in the face. That coud be easily done.
