This may have been discussed before but what if some new characters were made to replace classic characters. For example Frost replacing Sub-zero and ashrah replacing raiden. It may be a way to get rid of older characters, but in a way softening the blow to fans. What do you think about this?

First off, you can't just have characters come in and just replace CLASSIC characters for no particular reason. And secondly, it would be the death of Mortal Kombat.

Agreed!

Frost has a nice fan base but wasn't well recieved with most Sub-Zero fans. Replacing classics is a bad idea! Imagining replacing Scorpion! Imagine the uproar that would follow! It won't happen!

Yeah! It would be bad enough for them to have the new characters come in and replace the classic characters, but if they had other characters that have the same ability as the character they are replacing... wooo! All hell would break lose.

one thing that makes me think is the fact Scorpio n and Sub Zero are the juice of mk, and there won't be a mk without scorps and subby, but they can't hang around forever..well scorpion maybe because he's a specter and they could think of something for subzero, but that would be lame, so I guess that in a near future mk will end...

Bad idea? Yes!!

There do seem to be many characters that resemble classics.

Frost (I Liked her and her story) for Sub-Zero
Kobra/Ben for Johnny Cage
Ashra for Radien
Tanya/Kitana
Kira/Sonya
Li Mei/Mileena

It's getting common. If there's a good story (Jade, Kira} then I agree. Bad stories (Li Mei, Ben, Tanya) why bother?

Tanya is a blatant rip off of Kitana. In fact, Tanya was supposed to BE Kitana in MK4, but they cut her because they didn't think there were enough new characters. I think they should have just kept Kitana and burned that yellow outfit.

The real fan favourite classic characters will probably never be replaced. Maybe they'll miss an odd game to give them a break, but these characters are part of what makes Mortal Kombat so good. It would be suicide for the franchise to, lets say for example drop Raiden for good and have Fujin or someone new take over his role.

They have tried to replace well loved classics before, mainly in MK4 and failed horribly. Remember Jarek, the "new" Kano, or Shinnok, "The next Shang Tsung"? Two characters considered by most of us to be among MK's lamest, mainly because they tried to take over from established favourites.

I actually dont mind if old characters were replaced with new ones because its better to try new things that are more fun to know about.Like :

Ashrah = Raiden
Frost = Sub-Zero
Jade = Reptile ( Somehow )

I actually dont mind at all.

Welcome to MKOnline. Sorry but I think that's a bad idea. Classics are called classics for a reason you know.

They have the biggest fanbase and many people are still happy with them, so why replace them when they are fine the way they are.
