Fighting Batman and Robin doesnt seem very serious to me...

At least in terms of the MK universe and storyline?

Could this possibly be just some sort of spinoff MK and not the actual next installment?

I mean damn. For some strange reason I was expecting something of damn near Gears quality visuals with a new dark storyline.

Basically I was expecting something that would without a doubt and emphatically return MK to the very top of the fighting game world.

Well, something can be comical and still be serious. Batman is more serious, than say, Mokap.

The game looks serious and dark to me. I didn't see anything really comical in the trailer at all.

You must not read comics, you do know that DC is pretty serious in tone.

The context shouldn't be about which one is darker, MK or DC, because as others have mentioned already, DC can be pretty damn dark itself. (For my money, MK is still darker). The person who started this thread kinda sorta has a point: We were promised something darker and grittier than what we've been getting recently. We just may get that. The problem is that we only had the dimmest of rumors leading up to April 17th that it MAY have been a crossover title, and then when we got the news we certainly damn didn't expect it to be freaking DC COMICS.

When Boon said that, I don't think DC proposed the idea of the crossover yet.

Yeah. And I dont care if they crossed over with the Hellraiser movie series or something.

Its not about how dark the crossover universe it. Its about how I was expecting serious for MK.

Serious in the sense that the game would not try anything ridiculous and just create a new base for where the series was heading. Much like the Original MK did.

I just find it hard to take this game seriously because we all know damn well that in a few years when the DC license is up and they cant reference or use the characters any more, hell probably by the next game all the events and happenings of this game will pretty much be retconned from the MK history books.

AKA

This game from the storyline and future of the storyline perspective (My favorite aspect of the MK universe) is in the long run pointless.

The very nature of creating a crossover is whimsical and unserious.

It's not going to be pointless...was MvC pointless? It's just going to be a fun game.

I bet they are using this game to test out the new Engine...see how we react to their new ideas. They didn't wanna screw up the next "Real MK Game."
I would be happy if this is their plan, it would just make MK9 that much better.

I will reiterate, that DC has a lot more DARKNESS in it's storylines than MK does.

MK is a basic good vs. evil story. Only maybe 3 or 4 MK characters deal with any true dilemnas other than "How do I beat Shao Kahn!"

hopefully the story mode will flesh out the Mk characters to the same degree of the DC characters; we'll know how Sub-Zero thinks. That excites me.

Maybe I'm just old, but to me, Fatalities are slapstick. The same way I find Friday the 13th hillarious, I find nothing intrinsically dark about Mortal Kombat.
