I found this online when i typed in seppuku. This is what is really means. Hara-kiri, which literally means "stomach cutting" is a particularly painful method of self-destruction, and prior to the emergence of the samurai as a professional warrior class, was totally foreign to the Japanese. So we might see some nasty stomach cuttin in MK:D if Boon wants to be authentic.

Thats the literal meaning but over time the term also came to mean suicide.

Hari Kari was committed by Japanese suicide bombers, they would take a dagger and perform a self-evisceration.

He is a quote from an essay i did at university on Japanese culture/history.

Hara Kiri [belly cutting] The traditional Japanese form of honorable suicide. also know in Chinese as Seppuku. It was practiced by the Japanese fedual warrior class in order to avoid falling into enemy hands. Around 1500 it became a privledged alternative to execution granted to samurai who where found guility of dishonor to the emperor. After recieiving a jewelled dagger from the emperor he would choose a second. he was thrust it into the the left side of his abdomen, draw it across to the right and slight up. at this point his Second would be head him
no no no even cool if he just catches himself on fire...Subby freezes....Baraka upens his blade into his head....Ermac slams himself into a wall and explodes

I could be very wrong...but I could swear that Hara Kiri is the dishonorable form of suicide done by ninjas and the like back in fuedal Japan, while seppuku was done by samurais with the second to be-head them. But eh...doesn't matter :P I'd like to see a Yoshimitsu style one where they both go down, like where one guy pulls out his weapons, shoves it though himself as well as the other guy, and pulls all of their guts out.

I'm not sure that the MK team could make a good looking stomach cut Hara Kiri. I think it would be better if people just do things that fit their characters.

Like Sub Zero freeze shattering himself, or Sindel hanging herself by her hair.

I looked up the word "Hara-Kiri" a while back and the way it said, in exact translation is "Self Disembowelment" Just imagine how cool that would be. For your fighter to pull out a weapon and actually disembowel themselves. Hurry up October!!!!

hara-kiri

(här ́-kr ́, hr ́–) (KEY) [Jap.,=belly-cutting], the traditional Japanese form of honorable suicide, also known by its Chinese equivalent, seppuku. It was practiced by the Japanese feudal warrior class in order to avoid falling into enemy hands. Around 1500, it became a privileged alternative to execution, granted to daimyo and samurai guilty of disloyalty to the emperor. The condemned man received a jeweled dagger from the emperor. He selected as his second a faithful friend, received official witnesses, and plunged the dagger into the left side of his abdomen, drew it across to the right, and made a slight cut upward; his second then beheaded him with one stroke of a sword, and the dagger was returned to the emperor. Around 1700, it became permissible to go through a semblance of disembowelment prior to beheading. Voluntary hara-kiri was resorted to after a private misfortune, out of loyalty to a dead master, or to protest the conduct of a living superior. 1
Obligatory hara-kiri was abolished in 1868, but its voluntary form has persisted. It was performed by 40 military men in 1895 as a protest against the return of conquered territory, the Liaotung peninsula, to China; by General Nogi on the death of Emperor Meiji in 1912; and by numerous soldiers as an alternative to surrender in World War II. Hara-kiri was much discussed in recent years in connection with the death, in 1970, of Mishima, the well-known novelist and rightist political leader. 2
See bushido, kamikaze, suicide. 3
For detailed accounts of hara-kiri, see A. B. F. Redesdale, Tales of Old Japan (1919).
